Deliberately putting non-vegetarian food on the plate of a vegetarian is one of the many allegations levelled by a 28-year old woman against her in-laws, while seeking divorce from her 29-year-old husband before the family court.

The woman claimed that she was subjected to harassment by her in-laws after she got married in May 2011.

According to a copy of the order, her mother-in-law would abuse her in filthy language and also physically. Her husband, a short-tempered man, would also scream abuse at her.

A copy of the complaint read, "The woman claimed that she was a vegetarian and so she had informed about it to her husband before getting married, however things changed after marriage. Her mother-in-law would deliberately add non- vegetarian food in her plate to harass her. It was just because of the said incident that the woman had to skip her meals a number of times, thus suffering ill-health."

The woman further claimed that four months after the marriage, her father-in-law abused her for not bringing in any dowry and assaulted her. Once her in-laws also threw her out of the house at midnight, when she was dressed in her night clothes.

The woman further claimed that her husband had also threatened her with dire consequences. The man once alleged that his father was a policeman, because of which the woman could not take legal action against him.

The court, after going through the petition, asked her husband and his family to file their reply, however they did not respond to the court's instruction.

The court held that since the complaint went unopposed, the woman had proven the case of cruelty against her husband and in-laws and granted with divorce.
