It confuses Sarah Duiker that people consider her an oddball because she doesnt want meat on her plate.

Even more confusing to the relatively new vegan of eight months is the lack of animal-free items on Edmontons menu.

After conversing with others who share her diet, she set out to contact restaurants in the city, asking them to add vegan options to their repertoire.

Enough people asked for gluten-free (food), and suddenly, theres gluten-free everything, she said, adding she has contacted vegan and vegetarian groups around town, asking them to do the same.

If enough people are asking for vegan options, then maybe we will be accommodated as well.

Thus so far, Duiker has made little headway.

She received no response from Moxies and only a were looking into it, from the Keg and Tim Hortons, the latter of which recently began selling soy milk at a few locations across Canada.

Duiker has also contacted her nearby Starbucks, and local restaurants The Palace and Pearl River, the latter of which made her something she could eat with what they had on hand.

This is the first of two common, affirmative responses to a vegan diner, the other being offered a dish of vegetables and some kind of carb.
