In China, the retirement age is 55, and many of the Beijing #39;senior local people #39; as our guide referred to them would gather in the afternoons in the gardens of the Temple of Heaven and play mahjong, checkers, cards and sing. Each portico corner we came around we #39;d discover another group singing, conducted by one chinese and accompanied by a variety of instruments. They loved being filmed, and encouraged me to do so, smiling happily. My guide John told me the song was about running through the green meadows.
