For decades, George Lucas has been telling the media that he wants to make small, personal films after the success of Star Wars. Now that hes given up control of his company to Disney, he may finally get that chance.

Lucas attended Ebony magazine's Power 100 Gala on Friday night and told The Associated Press that he will make his own little personal films from now on.

The comments followed Disneys $4.05 billion purchase of Lucasfilm and the announcement that a seventh Star Wars movie will be released in 2015. Kathleen Kennedy, who has known Lucas for years and was named co-chair of Lucasfilm in June, will take over as president.

I've turned it over to a wonderful producer, Kathy Kennedy, and I've known her for years. She's more than capable of taking it and making it better than I did, Lucas said Friday.

Lucas added that he is sad to see his company go, but added, I'm ready to move on to bigger and better things.

He has also said that he will donate most of the money from the sale to an educational foundation. The rest of the money will go to help him make his smaller films.

Lucas last project was the first of these films to finally reach the big screen. He produced Red Tails, a film about the legendary all-black Tuskegee Airmen during WWII.

I'm going to go further out than that, he said Friday. I barely got Red Tails into the theaters. The ones I'm working on now will never get into the theaters.

Lucas has always been adamant that making small films is a personal goal for him. In January, he told the New York Times that he was retiring from blockbusters after a fifth Indiana Jones. That franchise will now also be run by Disney.
