Clarke wasnt expected to make the eight-man final but secured an impressive time of 13.39 seconds as USAs Aries Merritt stormed to victory in his personal best time of 12.92 secs.

And the 22-year-old Brit insists he was happy just to have qualified for the semi-finals, as he rounded off a dream Olympic campaign just outside the medal positions.

I cant believe I came fourth in the Olympic Games, I didnt even expect to make the final, said London-born Clarke, who qualified for the final in one of the fastest losers spots with 13.31 secs.

I went into the semi-final treating it as the final, I ran a personal best there and it was a dream come true.

The last four years have been an amazing journey. If you said at the start of the year that I would come fourth in the Olympics I would definitely have taken that.

To win a medal in the Olympic Games is very, very hard and I didnt come here with that expectation.

Ive beaten the European silver medallist and I was the only European in that final. I just cant believe it.
