Toronto Flamenco Festival - Maria Pages in Autorretrato
Dancer, choreographer and conceptual artist, Maria Pags is the most internationally renowned Flamenco artist in the world. Since 1990, when Mara Pags Compaa was first founded, Pags has created a fiercely traditional yet boldly modern Flamenco dance vocabulary. Invited by Mikhail Baryshnikov to dance at the Baryshnikov Art Centre, Pags began the creation of AUTORRETRATO (Self Portrait), the show she is bringing to the Sony Centre next Spring. Baryshnikov had asked for a personal performance, one that depicted both the dancer and the woman. Pags discovered they were one in the same, "The truth of the matter is that dance is the only medium that I have found to get to know myself." Mara Pags Compaa, featuring Pags, eight dancers and six musicians live on stage will make one appearance only in Toronto on Saturday, March 30, 2013.
