Accident claims analysis released by the Highway Loss Data Institute* (HLDI) in September throws a spotlight on the dangers of small cars and may provide an added dimension to determining performance in collisions. The decisions people make behind the wheel are the leading causes of auto accidents all across the country, he said. The Ferrari California convertible caused the highest overall losses in motor vehicle crashes from 2009 through 2011, according to the HLDI*. Accidents involving this high-priced vehicle saw nearly double the losses, including injuries, than those of the second-worst passenger car, the Maserati Granturismo 2dr. The average repair bill for the Ferrari California from 2009 through 2011 was about $82,000, according to the New York Times**.
