Hooper Holmes (NYSE Amex: HH) today announced an expansion of its relationship with NBC National Marketing, Inc., a premier National Marketing Organization in the life insurance industry, to serve as its provider of management services.

Weber Names Korn To Coaching Staff

MANHATTAN, Kan. K-State mens basketball coach Bruce Weber announced the hiring of former Southern Illinois player and assistant coach Brad Korn as the programs director of operations on Tuesday.

Korn is the third member of the Webers initial coaching staff at K-State, which includes assistant coaches Chris Lowery and Alvin Brooks III.

Brad is terrific young coach and a great addition to the staff, said Weber. Brad played for Matt Painter and me at Southern Illinois and then got his start in coaching as an assistant to Chris (Lowery), said Weber. He was part of one of the winningest senior classes in SIU history, winning 93 games and advancing to three straight NCAA Tournaments. He has really worked his way up the coaching ranks. This experience will be pivotal in handling all the various administrative roles for the program.

Much like Lowery, Korn has ties to Weber after playing his first four years (1999-2003) for him at Southern Illinois. He redshirted his first season in 1999-2000 before playing the next three years for Weber. He concluded his playing career for current Purdue head coach Matt Painter in 2003-04 before spending the next eight years (2004-12) as an assistant coach for Lowery at SIU.

Korn arrives at K-State after an eight-year stint at Southern Illinois (2004-12), including the last six years as a full-time assistant for Chris Lowery. He helped the Salukis post a 145-116 (.556) overall record with four postseason appearances, two Missouri Valley Conference Championships and one State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title. The squad won 20 or more games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament on three occasions (2005, 2006, 2007) during his tenure as an assistant coach, including a 2007 trip to the Sweet 16. He was a graduate assistant at SIU his first two years before being elevated to a full-time assistant coach on Jan. 31, 2006.

Im excited about the opportunity to join the staff at K-State, said Korn. I have known Coach Weber since I was 16, so nearly half my life, said Korn. He has been a big influence in my life and Im excited about this opportunity to work for him for the first time. Hes the same, genuine person that I met in 1998 and I cant wait to help him in this next chapter of his coaching life. I want to do all I can to make sure he and the other coaches have all they need to make K-State has successful as possible.

A native of Plano, Ill., Korn helped the Salukis through one of their greatest periods of success from 1999 to 2004. The squad went from 16 wins his redshirt freshman season to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances under Weber and Painter. He was also a part of three Missouri Valley regular season Championships as a player.

The 6-foot-9 forward saw action in 121 games in his career, averaging 5.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per game. As a senior, he averaged 9.7 points on 41 percent shooting with 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists in helping SIU to 25 wins and a 17-1 mark in MVC play. He was named to the leagues Most Improved Team. He earned a bachelors degree in marketing from the university in 2004, while he earned credits towards a Masters in Sports Studies.

Korn, 30, and wife, Kristin, have a daughter, Brielyn.

Doc Rivers has found the right touch with the Celtics, leading Boston to a championship and two Finals appearances.

Glenn "Doc" Rivers is living up to his nickname again. The Boston Celtics coach loves to joke that he's Doc, not a doctor, when you ask him about player injuries. But Doc is quite skilled at making ill teams healthy.

During these NBA playoffs, Rivers is attempting to complete one of his best coaching jobs, squeezing the most he can out of a creaky Big Three, maximizing the strengths of mercurial point guard Rajon Rondo and helping the Celtics lurk as a surprising contender. It figures Doc would be ideal for this challenge. Among Rivers' greatest traits is the ability to survive. He smiles frequently, even amid hardships, revealing pearly replacement teeth because he lost a few as a player. He is not one to be dismissed easily.

I know this because I called for Rivers to be fired nine years ago. It's the only day in my journalism career that I regret. And with Rivers poised to defy detractors yet again, it's time to admit it.

In November 2003, the Orlando Magic fired Rivers after a 1-10 start. One bad stretch and he was done. He had won the NBA Coach of the Year award in his first season and then guided the Magic to three straight playoff appearances despite Grant Hill's notorious ankle problems, but now he was a scapegoat three weeks into his fifth season.

Looking back, the Magic organization was a laughable disaster. John Weisbrod, a former minor league hockey general manager with a Harvard degree and a serious power trip, was the team's chief operating officer and made the decision to fire Rivers. General manager John Gabriel had fallen out of favor and would soon depart. And star guard Tracy McGrady was balking at signing a new contract, feuding with Weisbrod and planning an exit strategy that would come to light at season's end.

Rivers was the first to go because that's what it says to do in the "How To Wreck A Franchise In Seven Months" book. As a former Magic beat writer recently promoted to columnist at The Orlando Sentinel, I let the news junkie in me overtake the critical thinker.

We're bad at humility in this business, but for some reason, I feel like I owe it to Rivers. He's perhaps the most honest and introspective coach I've ever covered. That's why he is able to change and persevere. If you think Rivers made a bold and season-changing decision by moving Kevin Garnett to center earlier this year, consider that he once turned around an extremely limited Magic team by promoting an undersized, skinny 6-foot-9 shooter named Pat Garrity to starting power forward. Garrity couldn't jump over a basketball, but he gave the Magic enough of an edge to make the playoffs by playing cat-and-mouse basketball with bigger, more physical teams.

Nevertheless, sources were indicating nine years ago that Rivers was on the hot seat. The whispers started when the Magic had a 1-4 record, which is hardly enough time to judge a coach who was juggling a roster with eight new players.

Try a fitness class for free at YMCA York as part of Women's Health Week

For National Women's Health Week, the focus is on new, fun ways to be healthy.

York, PA - For National Women's Health Week, the York City Health Bureau and the YMCA York are giving community members a chance to try something new.

Through Thursday, people can register to participate in some select fitness classes -- Zumba, yoga, strength training or Body Combat -- at the YMCA for free, said Shaun Underkoffler, community health program coordinator for the health bureau.

The week ends with a Zumba demonstration and other activities Friday at Cherry Lane Park in York. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and includes vendors, prizes and healthy snacks.

Those who attend free fitness classes will receive a fitness pass that will enter them into a drawing Friday for the grand prize, Underkoffler said.

The idea is to show participants different ways to be active, Underkoffler said, and show that it can be fun.

Anyone interested in the fitness classes should call the YMCA at 843-7884.

Physical Fitness Lowers Risk of High Blood Pressure in People With Family History

May 14, 2012 -- Does high blood pressure run in your family? Keeping physically fit may lower your odds of developing high blood pressure by a third.

A new study shows that physically fit people with a family history of high blood pressure were up to 34% less likely to develop high blood pressure than people who rarely exercised.

And it didn't take hours of working out at the gym every day to get that benefit.

"The results of this study send a very practical message, which is that even a very realistic, moderate amount of exercise -- which we define as brisk walking for 150 minutes per week -- can provide a huge health benefit, particularly to people predisposed to hypertension because of their family history," researcher Robin P. Shook, a doctoral graduate student in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, says in a news release.

Having a parent with high blood pressure is one of the biggest risk factors for developing the condition yourself. Previous research suggests that having a parent with high blood pressure may account for about 35% to 65% of the variability of blood pressure levels.

The new study, published in Hypertension, included more than 6,000 healthy adults. About a third of them had a parent with high blood pressure.

Transamerica Study Shows American Workers Shifting Expectations of Retirement, Reveals Need to Redefine ‘Retirement …

American workers, shaken by the realities of the Great Recession, have adjusted their visions of retirement according to the 13th Annual Transamerica Retirement Survey released today by the non-profit Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies (The Center). The Center surveyed more than 3,600 American workers and found that the majority of workers plan to work past age 65 (56 percent) and the majority (54 percent) plan to continue working after they retire. Despite workers demonstrated commitment to saving, just 39 percent believe they are building a sufficient nest egg, thereby underscoring the need to redefine retirement readiness in a way that is better suited to these new realities.

For the past few years, the annual Transamerica Retirement Survey has seen an emerging trend of workers who plan to work past age 65, including some workers who do not plan to retire. This years survey found that these expectations are prevalent to varying degrees among workers of all age ranges, not just older workers.

American workers are adjusting their expectations of retirement, including working past age 65 and planning to work part-time in retirement, said Catherine Collinson, president of the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies. American workers have reshaped their vision of retirement, now its time to provide an updated roadmap to help them achieve retirement income to last throughout their lifetime.

Following careful analysis, The Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies proposes the following definition of Retirement Readiness:

A state in which an individual is well-prepared for retirement, should it happen as planned or unexpectedly, and can continue generating adequate income to cover living expenses throughout his/her lifetime through retirement savings and investments, employer pension benefits, government benefits, and/or continuing to work in some manner while allowing for leisure time to enjoy life.

Plan for the Best, Prepare for the Unexpected

According to the survey, more than half of workers polled (57 percent) have a retirement strategy, including 12 percent who have a written plan and 45 percent who have a plan that is not written down. Of those with any form of strategy, only 15 percent have factored in contingency plans for retiring sooner than expected and/or savings shortfalls. Meanwhile, among all workers, many still leave their future retirements up to guesswork; when asked how they estimated their savings needs for retirement, 47 percent admitted to guessing.

The effects of the Great Recession have been reflected in workers changing expectations of retirement. Working past age 65 is an important opportunity to continue to earn income, save more, and help to alleviate a retirement savings shortfall; however, its more important than ever for workers to have a retirement strategy including contingency plans if they are forced to retire sooner than expected. The fact that so few workers have a backup plan is a scary reality that must be addressed, said Collinson. Lifes unforeseen circumstances, such as a job loss or health issues, can have a devastating impact on the best laid plans. The what if scenarios are mission critical for American workers of all age ranges to include in their long-term preparations.

A significant majority (84 percent) prefers a do-it-yourself decision-making style regarding saving and investing for retirement, including nearly half (49 percent) of workers who seek advice but make their own final decisions and 35 percent who do their own research and make their own decisions. Despite these decision making styles, most workers (70 percent) agree that they do not know as much as they should about retirement investing.
