‘Would not vote for you as you’re an Indian’: Author tells Republican Vivek Ramaswamy on podcast – Deccan Herald
Posted: May 15, 2024 at 2:46 am
With general elections in America scheduled to be held in November 2024, the Democrat and Republican candidates are rallying across states to woe voters with their assurances and policies. Indian-American Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy was in one such interaction with an author who apparently was swift in stating that she would not vote for him as Ramaswamy is an "Indian".
The author was identified by NDTV as Ann Coulter who had appeared on a podcast with the Republican leader. Ramaswamy sportively accepting the statement made by the author said, "Ann Coulter told me flat-out to my face that she couldn't vote for me 'because you're an Indian,' even though she agreed with me more than most other candidates. I disagree with her but respect she had the guts to speak her mind. It was a riveting hour. The TRUTH podcast is back."
The Republican leader had said while announcing the podcast schedule that it would have certain "interesting bits". He had written on X: "Ann Coulter challenged me. I challenged her. This episode will challenge you. You're not going to want to miss it.
In the podcast, the conversation between Ramaswamy and Coulter involved a brief discussion on whether the US President elect should be white.
Vivek Ramaswamy was at the receiving end of sarcasm laced criticism fired by the author as the conversation started between the two on the podcast. "Fantastic opening monologue. I too am a fan of yours. I am going to make a point to make it fun," Coulter said.
The author went on to state that "You're (Ramaswamy) so bright and articulate. I guess I can call you articulate since you're not an American black - can't say that about them, it's derogatory - I agree with many, many things you say probably more than most other candidates. But I still would not have voted for you because you're an Indian."
It must be recalled here that in January this year, Donald Trump's top adviser ruled out Vivek Ramaswamy as the ex-US president's running mate after the Republican frontrunner publicly criticised the Indian-American presidential candidate ahead of the Iowa caucus.

Bitten By a WASP: Right Wing Shrew Ann Coulter Tells Vivek Ramaswamy She Wouldnt Have Voted for Him Because … – American Kahani
Posted: at 2:46 am
Former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy commended conservative social and political commentator Ann Coulter for speaking her mind. During a conversation on Ramaswamys Truth Podcast, Coulter told him that she wouldnt have voted for him because hes an Indian.
Ramaswamy began the hour-long episode on the N Word: Nationalism, describing his guest as somebody Ive been fascinated by for a long time. Coulter returned the favor saying, I too am a fan of yours, though Im going to make a point of disagreeing with you so that it will be fun, she said. You are so bright and articulateand I guess I can call you articulate since youre not an American Black, cant say that about them, thats derogatory.
Coulter elaborated on her reasons for not voting for her host. There is a core national identity that is the identity of the WASP [White Anglo-Saxon Protestant], and that doesnt mean we cant take anyone else ina Sri Lankan, a Japanese, or an Indianbut the core around which the nations values are formed is the WASP, she explained.
Weve never had a president who didnt have at least partial English ancestry, never, she continued. Weve only had one Catholic president, she added, forgetting to mention either President Joe Biden or John F. Kennedy. There was only one Catholic signatory to the Declaration of Independence. They were all not only protestants but pretty much Presbyterian.
Ramaswamy appeared unruffled by her remarks and noted that they shared opposition to dual citizenship, asserting that a child of immigrants would have greater loyalty to the country than disgruntled seventh-generation WASPs.
Sharing the episode on X, Ramaswamy reiterated that he disagreed with what Coulter said, but nevertheless commended her for saying it.
In an email, Ramaswamy shared the return of his podcast and the episode with Coulter. I took a hiatus after the campaign, and now Im back in full force, he said. We need to revive the conversations that most people are too afraid to have anymore. Raw yet respectful. Principled yet open-minded. If you want to hear standard conservative talking points, the TRUTH podcast isnt for you. But if you want to challenge yourself, this is a great place to start.
Earlier, while announcing the podcast, he mentioned the discussion between the two. Ann Coulter challenged me. I challenged her. This episode will challenge you. Youre not going to want to miss it, he posted on X.
The exchange between the two got a mixed response on social media. Many were critical of Ramaswamys praise of Coulter despite her blatant racism.
An X user named FactChaser noted that the Indian American, who once claimed that racism no longer exists only to have Republican / Conservative commentator Ann Coulter tell him to his face that she wouldnt vote for him because hes Indian.
Another user San called out Coulter for being a racist, but called Ramaswamy a bigot who enjoys laughing at Anns racist remarks about Black people. Vivek is the type of guy who would identify as a redneck, Hes so nave, he didnt realize how savagely Ann was hitting him,:
Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) also chimed in. I wasnt surprised that Ann Coulter made a racist statement about Vivek, he wrote. What surprised me is the weakness and lack of self-respect of @VivekGRamaswamy. Hes actually promoting this episode and praising the person who spewed raw racism to his face. I feel sorry for Vivek.
Some X users like Art Candy and Surf Balakrishnan stood up for Ramaswamy. Ann Coulter is desperately trying to stay relevant as the most hateful and bigoted Republican woman in a pool of so many candidates, read the post. I cant believe Im sticking up for Vivek Ramaswamy, either, but shes absolutely vile.
Balakrishnan lauded Ramaswamy his response and temperament, to Coulters remarks, and described it as a masterclass on how to have a conversation.
Ramaswamy suspended his presidential campaign in January and endorsed Trump. The 38-year-old entrepreneur announced in Des Moines on Jan. 15 after a disappointing fourth-place finish in the Iowa caucuses. He entered the 2024 race with no prior political experience. Founder of the biotech firm Roivant Sciences and author of the book Woke Inc., he funded most of his campaign from his fortunes.

‘Because You’re An Indian’: US Author Tells Vivek Ramaswamy Why She Wouldn’t Have Voted For Him – News18

Indian-American Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy, who ended his campaign for the US presidential election in January this year, was told by a right-wing commentator that she wouldnt have voted for him because he is an Indian.
Speaking on Ramaswamys Truth" podcast, American author Ann Coulter said she agreed with the millionaire entrepreneurs views more than most other candidates, but still, she would not have voted for him because of his Indian heritage.
Ramaswamy, whose parents emigrated from India, listened to Coulters racist remarks politely, and later praised her for having the guts to speak her mind."
Ann Coulter told me flat-out to my face that she couldnt vote for me because youre an Indian, even though she agreed with me more than most other candidates. I disagree with her but respect she had the guts to speak her mind. It was a riveting hour. The TRUTH podcast is back," Ramaswamy said in a post on X.
From the beginning of the podcast, Coulter went on to take swipes at Ramaswamy and said, Fantastic opening monologue. I too am a fan of yours. I am going to make a point to make it fun. Youre so bright and articulate. I guess I can call you articulate since youre not an American black cant say that about them, its derogatory I agree with many, many things you say probably more than most other candidates. But I still would not have voted for you because youre an Indian."
She went on to explain her stance and said, There is a core national identity that is the identity of the WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant)And that doesnt mean we cant take anyone else in a Sri Lankan or a Japanese, or an Indian. But the core around which the nations values are formed is the WASP."
Unruffled by her remarks, Ramaswamy pointed out that they shared opposition to dual citizenship. He further noted that a child of immigrants would have greater loyalty to the country than disgruntled seventh-generation WASPs.
The Ohio native who stood at number four in polls for the Republican presidential nomination, led the 2024 campaign with a record 42 campaign stops in a week the highest among candidates.
Asserting that he is not a Plan B person", Ramaswamy has rejected the idea or speculation of his joining the Trump cabinet in any official capacity if the former President retakes the White House from Joe Biden in 2024.
However, throughout his presidential campaign, the only thing that Ramaswamy did not do was to take on his Republican rival, former President Donald Trump, head-on. Instead, he waxed eloquent about the twice-impeached Trump, facing more than 90 criminal charges, calling him the greatest President" of the 21st century, pledging to pardon him if elected as the POTUS.

In a shocking clip that aired on former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamys podcast , the right-wing commentator Ann Coulter unabashedly admitted that she would not have voted for Ramaswamy because hes Indian.
Ramaswamy, who was born in the United States to parents who emigrated from India, hosts the podcast Truth. The episode, which was entitled the N word: Nationalism, included many shocking moments of blatant racism.
According to the Daily Beast, after Ramaswamy warmly welcomed Coulter to his show, the conservative media pundit thanked him for having her on by saying: I too am a fan of yours, though Im going to make a point of disagreeing with you so that it will be fun. You are so bright and articulateand I guess I can call you articulate since youre not an American Black, cant say that about them, thats derogatory.
The two launched into a conversation about American identity and citizenship, the New York Post reported that Coulter claimed to Ramaswamy that the national identity is the WASP- White Anglo-Saxon Protestants.
I agreed with many many things you said during in fact, probably more than most other candidates when you were running for president, but I still would not have voted for you, because youre an Indian, she said.
However, in Ramaswamys efforts to promote the podcast on X, not only did he refrain from criticizing Coulter, he expressed his respect for her.
@AnnCoulter told me flat-out to my face that she couldnt vote for me because youre an Indian, even though she agreed with me more than most other candidates. I disagree with her but respect she had the guts to speak her mind, he wrote on X.
Huffpost reported that Ramaswamys post to social media invited backlash from other politicians. Ted Lieu, the representative of Californias 36th congressional district who emigrated from Taiwan, wrote that while he is not surprised by Ann Coulters remarks, he is disappointed in Ramaswamy.
I wasnt surprised that Ann Coulter made a racist statement about Vivek, Lieu posted on X. What surprised me is the weakness and lack of self-respect of @VivekGRamaswamy. Hes actually promoting this episode and praising the person who spewed raw racism to his face. I feel sorry for Vivek.

Is this exiled general back in Putin’s favour? – UnHerd

Is this exiled general back in Putins favour?
When former Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin returned to Russia last July after his aborted rebellion against Vladimir Putin, there was speculation that he might be back in favour in Moscow. A few weeks later, he was dead possibly on orders handed down from the Russian President. Now another Kremlin outcast, Sergei Surovikin, may be returning to the fold, if online reports are to be believed.
Surovikin, dismissed last year from his role as commander-in-chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, is rumoured to be coming back from Algeria to take up the position of Chief of the General Staff this month. Regional experts have questioned whether a video in circulation of Surovikin onboard a plane entering Russia is recent or from before his dismissal last year, though multiple sources support the claim that he really is returning. Best to avoid any open windows, Sergei
Talk about a realignment. Of the Britons who plumped for the Liberal Democrats in 2019, 45% now intend to vote for Sir Keir Starmers Labour in the upcoming general election. Thats marginally more than the 44% of the 2019 Lib Dem contingent planning to vote for Ed Daveys party this time around, according to a new YouGov poll.
But thats only part of the great political switch-up registered by the poll. While the Labour Party has hoovered up a big chunk of the 2019 Conservative vote, the party has also lost almost 10% of its voters from five years ago to the Green Party. Unsurprisingly, just over a quarter of the 2019 Tory vote has gone to Reform, following on from Lee Anderson. The 3% who flipped from Lib Dem to Reform must be an interesting bunch
Vivek Ramaswamy has a reputation for defending contentious, even unsavoury, speech. Having stood up for free expression on the campaign trail, hes having to do the same on his own podcast, after a particularly outspoken from his most recent guest, Right-wing commentator Ann Coulter.
I agree with many, many things you said when you were running for president, she told the former Republican presidential candidate. But I still would not have voted for you, because youre an Indian.
Ramaswamy went on to praise Coulter after the interview for having the guts to speak her mind and, never one to shy from controversy, titled the episode Ann Coulter on the N word: nationalism.

Surprisingly, both conservative Ann Coulter and Vivek Ramaswamy received criticism over the episode of Ramaswamy's Truth podcast on the internet. Coulter sparked outrage by telling former Republican presidential candidate Ramaswamy that she wouldn't vote for him because 'you're an Indian' despite agreeing with his ideas otherwise. This shocking admission of racial bias occurred during the podcast released on Wednesday, where the pair discussed nationalism and American identity. Ramaswamy, on the other hand, faced criticism for not taking a strong stand against her comment and instead 'defending' it.

Many folks didn't hold back on slamming her harsh racial views. @JohnBasham put it bluntly, "That's What's Great About The First Amendment! Protecting Even The Most Hate-Filled Speech Helps Us Identify Idiots & Racists Like Coulter!" Then there was @Arkypatriot, who simply said, "She's always been a racist."@FedUpMajority chimed in, saying, "What an awful person she is." @thewayoftheidtweeted, "Vivek: Ive never experienced racism before Ann Coulter: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED."

Despite her evident prejudice, Ramaswamy praised Coulter's 'guts' for voicing such views openly, ".@AnnCoulter told me flat-out to my face that she couldnt vote for me because youre an Indian, even though she agreed with me more than most other candidates. I disagree with her but respect she had the guts to speak her mind. It was a riveting hour. The TRUTH podcast is back," he stated, as per HuffPost.
Ramaswamy's reaction drew ire from several quarters, with Congressman Ted Lieu commenting: "I wasnt surprised that Ann Coulter made a racist statement about Vivek. What surprised me is the weakness and lack of self respect of @VivekGRamaswamy. Hes actually promoting this episode and praising the person who spewed raw racism to his face. I feel sorry for Vivek."

Others were more direct in their criticism. @steinkobbe commented, "lol you're so f-cking weak and pathetic." @NobleQAli chimed in, "Wild how you just let white people hoe you out every time you turn on a camera." @domthedent pointed out, "You did not challenge her enough, fine that you held your composure, but 1 she called you an immigrant and youre not, you didnt correct or challenge her.you never asked her to separate you from your Ethnicity and thats what you shouldve done."

This was not Coulter's first time throwing out racial comments. She once stirred outrage with her appearance on The Mark Simone Show podcast when she directed several offensive comments towards Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, who was born in the United States to Indian immigrant parents, as per NBC News. Coulter told Haley to 'go back to your own country' despite the fact that Haley was born in South Carolina. Coulter also attacked India, stating, "Her candidacy did remind me that I need to immigrate to India so I can demand they start taking down parts of their history. What's with the worshipping of the cows? They're all starving over there. Did you know they have a rat temple, where they worship rats?"

Between the state of the world, the prices of groceries, and you knoweverything else, we could all use a little relaxing now and again.
If youre struggling to get into chill mode, neuroscientists say this song has to be on your playlist.
Market research firm Mindlab International conducted a study of people completing difficult puzzles while their brain activity was monitored. Music was played while they attempted the puzzles as well.
When they did, one song proved to be more soothing than all the rest.
That song is Weightless by Marconi Union.
Marconi Union is an English ambient music band, and this particular song produced a 65% reduction in stress among the study participants.
It was 11% more effective than the other songs in reducing blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing speed.
The song was created in 2011 with the intention of relaxing listeners.
Music therapy is widely considered to be a natural defense against stress. Thats important, as stress leads to other major health issues that can seriously damage our brains and our bodies.
If youre someone who prefers lyrics, the study also found that Watermark by Enya and Pure Shores by All Saints are also very good options.
Whatever you listen to, make sure to take some time to just sit back and enjoy the music.
You deserve it.

Jesuit scientist who bridged faith and science recounted in new PBS documentary – America: The Jesuit Review
Posted: at 2:45 am
(RNS) In the history of the Catholic Church, too many innovative thinkers were persecuted before they were accepted and then embraced by the church.
The list includes St. Thomas Aquinas (whose books were burned by the bishop of Paris), St. Ignatius Loyola (who was investigated by the Spanish Inquisition) and St. Mary MacKillop (an Australian nun who was excommunicated by her bishop for uncovering and reporting clergy child sex abuse).
Its not surprising, then, that a French Jesuit scientist, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, who tried to bridge the gap between faith and science, got himself in trouble with church officials and his Jesuit superiors in the 20th century. Only after his death was he recognized as the inspired genius that he was.
His story is magnificently told in a new PBS documentary, Teilhard: Visionary Scientist, which was produced by Frank Frost Productions in a 13-year labor of love. It took Frank and Mary Frost to four countries on three continents, a total of 25 locations, and included more than 35 interviews.
Teilhard was born in 1881, entered the Jesuits in 1899 and was ordained a priest in 1911. His father nurtured in him a scientific curiosity, and he studied geology, botany and zoology at the University of Paris, ultimately becoming an eminent paleontologist who was involved in the discovery of the Peking Man.
If he had stuck to science, he would have led the quiet life of a scholar, but it was his attempt to bring together science and faith that got him in trouble. He went beyond the traditional argument that faith and science were not in conflict and used science as an input to theology and spirituality. Thus, his writings on Christ were enhanced by an evolutionary perspective.
He was not allowed to publish during his lifetime, although some manuscripts did circulate among friends and colleagues. Luckily, his literary executors were laypeople, not Jesuits, or his papers would have been buried in the archives.
After his death in New York City, The Phenomenon of Man (1955) and The Divine Milieu (1957) were published, leading to a condemnation of his writing by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1962.
His influence grew at and after the Second Vatican Council. Even Benedict XVI picked up on his thinking in an Easter homily where the pope spoke of the risen Christ as the next step in human evolution.
Teilhard believed that (s)omeday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for the second time in the history of the world, we will have discovered fire.
Teilhard: Visionary Scientist tells this story well, with historical photos and onsite video of places where Teilhard lived and worked, including China. His important influence on theology is revealed through interviews with theologians and others who have been touched by his writings.
The film is a great opportunity to learn about a man who is still influencing the development of theology today.
Teilhard: Visionary Scientist will premiere on Maryland Public Television on May 19 and be available for national and international streaming for two years, beginning on May 20, on the free PBS app.
Another PBS documentary being released this month is Hollywood Priest: The Story of Fr. Bud Kieser by Paulist Productions, which is also working on Statue of Limitations: Father Serra and the California Natives.

Document focusing on the life of Pierre Teilhard to air on MPT – My catholic standard

The film TEILHARD: Visionary Scientist will have its broadcast debut on Maryland Public Television on May 19 at 4 p.m. Telling the story of the late French Jesuit priest and scientist, Father Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, the documentary masterfully weaves together themes from his life, including scientific adventure, the search for meaning, unresolved conflict with authority, the primacy of spirit, and the power of love.
Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for the second time in the history of the world, we will have discovered fire. These words of Father Teilhard open the film, framing the journey of the two-hour biographical film that spans from his birth on May 1, 1881, in Orcines, France, to his death on Easter Sunday, April 10, 1955, in New York City.
Father Teilhard develops a passion for geology and paleontology, fostered in his childhood by hikes with his father exploring neighboring volcanic mountains. He becomes a Jesuit priest, based on a deep spirituality fostered by his mother, who home schooled him.
The words of Father Teilhard himself provide the main thread that leads the viewer through the events of his life, supplemented by interviews with experts from the fields of science and religion, as well as through conversations with family and friends.
The film presents his message as relevant for our day and its rapidly evolving technology. His focus on the evolution of consciousness resonates with todays ascent of artificial intelligence (AI). His writings have also contributed to movements that include ecology, care for the earth, and a hopeful faith, compatible with science. He has inspired followers among believers and non-believers alike.
Father Teilhards own interior struggle between love of the earth and love of God leads to a very personal understanding of cosmic evolution, which he called cosmogenesis. This enthusiasm for evolution, including what it can do to enhance dialogue between scientific thinking and religious belief, puts him in conflict with his Jesuit superiors.
This leads to exile in China for 25 years, suppression of his writings, and a second exile at the age of 70 to New York City making him a sort of 20th Century Galileo. Exile in China, ironically, places Father Teilhard on a geological team that discovers the world-famous Peking Man, the most important missing link in evolution of humans to that point.
His spiritual essays and books, notably The Divine Milieu and The Human Phenomenon, would be published after his death, and in many languages. They reflect what Father Teilhard spoke of as the twin peaks of his interior life an unbounded faith in our Lord and a clear-eyed faith in the world.
This man has given us a vision of hope that really is hope and not pipe dreams, the Most Rev. Michael Bruce Curry, presiding bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church, says in the film. That is the stuff of prophets. That is the stuff of people who change the world.
Thirteen years in the making, TEILHARD: Visionary Scientist, was produced by award-winning documentary filmmakers, Frank and Mary Frost. The production took them to four countries on three continents a total of 25 locations and included more than 35 interviews.
TEILHARD: Visionary Scientist will be available for national and international streaming for two years, beginning on May 20, 2024, on the free PBS App. Visit https://www.mpt.org/anywhere/pbs-app/ to download the app, and then search for the films title.
DVDs of the program will be available at that time as well, at http://www.MPT.org/shop.
