Bucher named new Capistrano Valley coach

Posted: at 6:55 am

Capistrano Valley's search for a new football head coach included a number of candidates, some from out of state. But in the end, the Cougars did not have to look far to find their man.

Ernst Bucher has been coaching football for half his life; now, after 17 years as an assistant or coordinator, he will get his first chance to lead a program as the Cougars' new head coach.

Bucher's hiring was officially approved Wednesday night by the Capistrano Unified School District board.

"I already felt like I was at home at Capo," said Bucher, 34, who had been an assistant at Capistrano Valley for the last three years under Matt Poston. Poston left earlier this month to take the head coaching job at Tesoro.

"When Matt got the job at Tesoro, I was excited to jump at the opportunity to get the head coaching job and keep some continuity," Bucher said.

After graduating from St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs, Bucher began his coaching career at La Quinta (1995-98). He then did stints at Capistrano Valley (1999-2001), Estancia (2002-04) and Aliso Niguel (2005-09) before returning to Capistrano Valley in 2010.

"All the people in the community who had been around the program had nothing but positive things to say about him and his football expertise," Capistrano Valley Athletic Director Chad Addison said.

Bucher, 34, is an English teacher at Aliso Niguel, but Addison said a request has been made to transfer Bucher to Capistrano Valley as a teacher, but it has not yet been finalized.

According to those who know Bucher well, it is no surprise he is finally getting a shot as the head of a program.

"From the beginning, he's a guy that grew up as a football kid," said Jeff Veeder, who coached Bucher at St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs) and hired him twice as an assistant. "He lived and breathed football. Even as a player he was kind of a coach on the field."

"People who are not ready to retire, have skills and experience, and need a proven way to make the switch from 'corporate prisoner' to thriving business coach will find these videos very instructive and eye-opening," Henson said.

"People around the world are worried about how to navigate the slowly recovering economy and create their own businesses without breaking the bank," Henson said. "These content-rich videos educate and inform so new and very real possibilities can emerge quickly."

Henson believes that there has never been a better time to explore business coaching as a way to reinvent a career, bridge a retirement savings gap, exit the corporate 'rut,' and make a real difference in the lives of others. Henson has trained and certified 3,220 coaches and businesses since 1989. Many of his clients are running thriving six-figure businesses today.

Guiding "career interventionists" to acquire the confidence and skills to succeed as independent business coaches who can drive revenue and build real value is a mission Henson is fighting for and making accessible and affordable, too.

"Whether people are ready to dive in or follow a more gradual path to career reinvention, business coaching is a viable way to transition from one line of work to another and feel deeply rewarded by the contribution you make through your work for the rest of your life," he said.

Exiting from cubicle nation to pave a path to business success as a coach requires new skills not taught in the typical corporate job. With one leg in the job and one leg longing to step or sprint out, Henson's new course entitled The Small Business Coach Master Training System offers practical, step-by-step strategies, skills, and tactics to hasten the exit from the real job to the dream career of one's own design.

"The best first step is to watch the four videos," Henson said.

Jim Larrañaga coaching Miami Hurricanes in familiar arena

Posted: at 6:55 am

WASHINGTON -- University of Miami coach Jim Larraaga gathered the Hurricanes in a huddle during practice at the Verizon Center on Wednesday afternoon and said: You know why they call it the Sweet 16? Because its sweet!

He would know.

Seven years ago, in this very building, he led 11th-seeeded mid-major George Mason to a Sweet 16 win over Wichita State and a historic Elite Eight triumph over top-seeded Connecticut to earn a spot in the Final Four a first for a double-digit seed.

Thursday night, he will try to work his magic again as the No. 2-seeded Hurricanes (29-6) face No. 3 seed Marquette (25-8). It was clear as the coach roamed the hallways of the building that the place was familiar and special to him. George Mason fans stopped him for autographs and photos. And he got big hugs from former Patriot players Tony Skinn and Lamar Butler.

He said that when he saw those former players, it was as if time hadnt passed.

This is not just any other arena for me, this is the Verizon Center, Larraaga said. I spent many a night watching the Wizards and Georgetown play here, but my greatest memory was getting a chance to coach here in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight. [Writer] John Feinstein told me my life would never be the same, and he was right. Weve had a lot of new things occur all as a direct result of our performance here in the Verizon Center. Those memories last a lifetime.

He said he has told stories of that run to his UM players, but they cant relate because me and my staff have the memories, and they dont. They want to create those memories for themselves.

UM players said they could tell Larraaga and his staff were nostalgic here, with good reason.

Weve seen the highlights of it, it was a great run, it was magical, UM sophomore guard Shane Larkin said. Hopefully, he still has some good luck left in him. Not saying we need luck, but hopefully he still has a winning touch, and its going to be fun playing out here in this arena. He has experience here, and history here, and hopefully we can keep this as a good memory in his mind and go out and win these two games.

They will have to do it without senior center Reggie Johnson, who had arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Johnson injured the knee during the Illinois game Sunday. Larraaga said he was told of the injury on the plane ride home from Austin on Monday.

Inter job changed my life – Stramaccioni

Posted: at 6:55 am

Andrea Stramaccioni says that taking the Inter job has changed his life.

The 37-year-old took over at San Siro a year ago this week, and says that being in charge of the club has is a dream come true for him.

It changed my life. Now we all know each other a bit more. Its the life of a simple young man that changed drastically. Sometimes I still cant believe it because its a dream for me to be experiencing this job on this stage in the first person, he told the Inter Channel.

"Im very happy. I have to thank everyone around me and all the Nerazzurri players and staff. I cant deny that the first one is when I heard the presidents voice telling me how he had decided to move forward with me at the helm.

"Time comes to a standstill in a moment like that, because you think to yourself, Im coaching Inter. You feel emotion, pride, and even a bit of fear over whether youll be up to it or not.

When it comes to other moments I prefer to remember the happy ones, the things that have gone well with these lads, like the win in the first derby.

That will always remain in my memory. Seeing a packed San Siro coloured blue and black, and such a strong AC Milan side, even if they didn't win the league. It was an incredible rush.

Then the win in Turin against a Juventus side that hadn't lost at home for 50 games. Inter stunned the Juventus Stadium and we got to see our fans celebrating in their section as the rest of the stadium emptied out. These are the three most fantastic moments."

Inter face the Bianconeri again this weekend, and Stamaccioni emphasised the importance of winnig the match.

This game is absolutely vital to us, both in terms of the importance for the standings as well as for how much it means to us. Well tackle it giving even more than our all, giving 101 per cent," he added.
