Shanghai Disneyland Spring News: Blooms, Treats & Crazy Yoga! – MiceChat

Posted: at 2:40 am

Asia is a very long airplane ride away for most of us, but even before Disney opened parks and resorts over there, it was worth the trip. I lived in Yokohama, Japan as a kid and actually moved back to California the same month that they broke ground on Tokyo Disneyland. It was a big deal back then as you can imagine.

Ive also been to Lotte World in Korea, which has a familiar-looking castle and had my favorite roller coaster on earth, Comet Express. (Think Rat Fink meets Space Mountain meets Tea Cups underground. It was great.)

Disneys Asian parks may be far away, but they often do things better than Disneys first parks in the United States. Today, Id like to share some spectacular springtime offerings at Shanghai Disneyland, Disneys youngest park. Let us know if you see anything youd like to be transported to the Disney park nearest you.

As winter fades into spring, Shanghai Disneyland Resort has all sorts of treats blooming. Refreshed gardens as well as new gardening styles and blooms everywhere, as well as new performances, food and merchandise. From March 6 to May 31 there will be all sorts of limited-time experiences for guests, from Disney Princess experiences in March, to Chip and Dales (Chichititi in Shanghai) birthday in April, to a MARVEL-ous May, the wonders are non-stop. Theres also a fun new Zootopia show making its debut.

Shanghai Disney Resort has transformed into a floral fairyland, with flowers blooming everywhere. In the Garden of Imagination and surrounding areas, there are over 200 species of flowers blooming.

From Mickey Avenue to Disney-Pixar Toy Story Land, flowers fill every corner of the resort. For the first time, Easter Eggs inspired by Mei from Turning Red (Young and Living in Shanghai) and Doudou and Ronaldinho from UP will appear. Colorful interactive walls along Mickey Avenue are perfect for that Instagrammable selfie.

In Disneytown, nature is making a show as well. In Wishing Star Park, spring tulips and cherry blossoms are the stars of the show, as are many species of local birds. The resorts two hotels are also decorated to the nines with flowers.

Disney Color Fest: A Street Party! returns with an upgraded show and more Disney Friends will join the show. New characters in the dance party include Mushu from Mulan, Stitch from Lilo and Stitch and Duffys good friend Cochin, who will join the red team, blue team and yellow team respectively. Go team!

Mickey and Friends have new outfits inspired by skateboarding fashions to welcome spring, wearing sports sweatshirts with plaid accessories. Duffy and friends wear soft, country-inspired clothing for exploring nature, with forest element accessories such as leather tulips and wooden buttons. Winnie the Pooh and Friends have new spring outfits that celebrate flowers and plants.

Shanghai Disneylands colorful Zootopia land just opened a few months ago, but theres a new show starting April 1, Disneys Crazy Yoga Show. I couldnt find out if there is a walkaround of Zootopias Yoga Yax. I really hope so. The show will be performed daily at the Gardens of Imagination and will further show daily life in Zootopia. In addition to the show, Nick and Judy have set up a garden for guests to enjoy.

Try Everything: Shanghai Disneylands Zootopia Land Roars to Life!

The resort will also stage The Year of Dreaming: Princess Special Presentation in the center of the Castle to celebrate womens courage, strength, and pursuit of the true self during Womens History Month. From March 6 to March 31, the Chinese version of the theme song for the Disney Ultimate Princess Celebration event, The Year of the Dream, will coincide with texture mapping images on the Castle itself, showing lifelike images of light and shadow.

Inside the Enchanted Storybook Castle, guests can meet their favorite Disney Royals, (the good ones) and they will also make surprise appearances on the terraces and balconies of the Castle. They will also make an appearance during Mickeys Storyline Parade. Princess-themed limited edition merchandise will also make an appearance, including princess-themed sippy cups, jars and Mickey Ears hats at the brand-new shop Little Guest Gift House.

In April, Shanghai Disney Resort will celebrate the birthday of the beloved duo Chip and Dale, known in Shanghai as the brothers Chichititi.

April 2 is the big day but Shanghai Disney Resort will celebrate all month long, joined by their friend Clarice, Chrissy in Shanghai. Special Chichititi Birthday Series merchandise will also be released in April.

Shanghai Disney Resort will celebrate a MARVEL-ous May with a series of immersive experiences. Tomorrowland will feature several MARVEL-themed photo spots where guests will feel like they are immersed in the MARVEL Cinematic Universe. Mickey and Friends will dress up once again in their MARVEL fan outfits in the Mickey Superhero Party in front of the MARVEL backboards. The Avengers deployment vehicle will carry some of their favorite MARVEL Superheroes through Tomorrowland.

Resort chefs have been incorporating the bright colors and fresh flavors of spring into some delicious treats. From ice cream and donuts to cookies and tacos, guests will find all sorts of edible delights throughout the park, hotels and Disneytown. Try a chicken wrap with peanut butter, a sausage sandwich with avocado and tomato corn salad or a fruit-flavored ice cream. There are also commemorative straw cups and popcorn buckets available for purchase: the Disney Colorful Celebration themed straw cup, the Winnie the Pooh straw cup and Lina Belle Spring Buckets.

Donald Ducks Happy Chef in Disneytown will launch monthly limited pizzas starting this year. In March, the pizza is Wagyu Beef Meatball Pizza, Italian Bacon Four Cheese Pizza in April, and in May, White Asparagus, Bacon and Prawn Pizza.

Theres a whole series of Disney Color Celebration: Street Party! themed products, including stuffed toys, key rings, t-shirts and more. There are also Spring Mickey and Friends Series stuffed toys for you to collect and dress up, with their new skateboard-y costumes in miniature.

The Spring Duffy and Friends Series products echo Duffy and Friends new spring costumes with hints of the outdoors on the merchandise: in addition to plush toys and plush key rings, there are also thermos cups and card holders, crossbody bags and headbands, hoops and other fashionable items for guests and their duoduos alike.

All the Ways the Sedona Yoga Festival Inspired Usand Why We’re Already Planning to Attend Next Year – Yoga Journal

Posted: at 2:40 am

Heading out the door? Read this article on the new Outside+ app available now on iOS devices for members! Download the app.

Hello! Hows your breath?

Its not exactly common for a conference event to begin with that query. But when Sundar Balasubramanian, PhD, posed that question to attendees at the Sedona Yoga Festival last weekend, everyone understood exactly what was being asked of them. Long, slow exhalations followed.

Dr. Balasubramanian, a cell biology researcher and TEDx speaker, was one of dozens of presenters at the five-day festival, which was launched in 2013 and quickly became a respected and anticipated event where dozens of teachers share the tradition and science of yoga. The recent gathering drew more than 700 attendees of all agesincluding beginners with no yoga experience as well as those who have been teaching for decadeswho could access 160 workshops, panel discussions, immersions, classes, concerts, and trainings.

Sessions included discussions of neuroplasticity, Ayurveda, how to teach chair yoga with the founder of the Accessible Yoga Association, Jivana Heyman, as well as a panel discussion of sacred activism with Reggie Hubbard, Saul David Raye, and Ana Camacho-Hansen. The event also offered a 20-hour trauma conscious yoga training led by Lara Land.

Theres so much diversityall backgrounds are here, all shapes and sizes are here, every teacher here is offering adaptations, explains Arundhati Baitmangalkar, yoga teacher trainer and founder of the Lets Talk Yoga podcast, who served on the program team for the festival. In one of her talks, she shared with teachers her first rule for creating a supportive environment for students, which is a reminder that Teachers, its not about you.

Its that understanding of students needs and expectations that prompted Baitmangalkar to rethink one aspect of the festival. I think students have an understanding of a yoga festival as this big party, she explains. Although theres nothing wrong with that, she says, the term may limit ones understanding of the education taking place during the four days.

Heather Shere Sanders, longtime producer of the Sedona Yoga Festival, feels the same. I think you hear festival and you think barefoot and spinning around on the ground, she says with a laugh. But its really more of conference with a festival vibe. Were all here studying, practicing together, honoring the traditions of yoga, and exploring it really deeply.

Sanders considers the event more of a consciousness evolution conference, which has been its tagline in recent years. Because we offer such a wide-ranging variety of techniques and styles throughout the weekend, I often say you can get a yoga education simply by exploring all the classes as you design your personal schedule, she says.

The better part of a year is spent working planning the theme and taking applications for speakers as well as reaching out to teachers who arent drawing a lot of attention but are doing amazing things, explains Sanders. She coordinates speakers and the schedule in conjunction with her small programming team, including communications director Lisette Cheresson, who help ensure the content is diverse in all ways. The details of the event are finalized in conjunction with a crew of talented volunteers.

Sanders emphasizes that it is possible to attend the conference and still receive a very deep understanding of yoga without doing any asana, or physical poses. Approximately one third of attendees arent yoga teachers. They vary from beginners to regulars at studios who want to understand more about yoga without becoming a teacher. Were all here with one another and adding to each others understanding, she explains.

That understanding takes many shapes. This conference is so special since there are so many small workshops, says Molly Nixon, director of the Yoga Mandala Project, which leads trauma-informed training for yoga teachers who support refugees.

However, Nixons learning wasnt limited to the sessions. After three days attending scheduled events, she spent her fourth day not attending any of the classes shed intended. Instead, she found herself drawn into conversation after conversation with other teachers and panelists with similar and opposing viewpoints, which she considered to be just as educational. As Nixon explained, Its just magic.

Next years Sedona Yoga Festival will take place May 1-4, 2025. Discounted tickets are available until March 31, 2024.

Build Lower-Body Strength and Find Your Balance With These 6 Yoga Poses – Well+Good

Posted: at 2:40 am

Squats and lunges will never not be part of leg day, but if you need a fresh way to work your lower-body, its time for us to introduce you to something that challenges your muscles and your mindset in equal measureyoga for legs.

Yoga might not be the first thing that comes to mind for challenging leg workouts, but trust us, its a game-changer. The practice doesnt just build physical strength, but mental strength as well, says Paige Willis, RYT-200, certified yoga instructor and founder of Undone, a pop-up yoga experience.

While its different from your typical leg day, building strength in yoga requires you to engage multiple muscle groups at a time and move with a wide range of motion, she says. Think of standing poses like chair pose and crescent lunge, where you have to engage the muscles in your lower body to find stability. If you hold these poses for several rounds of breath, you invite endurance into the equation, along with strength.

For April 2024, weve asked her to host our Movement of the Month Club, focusing on yoga. And in Week 2, were focusing on lower-body yoga poses. Below, Willis demonstrates six poses that not only strengthen key lower-body muscles (glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves) but also improve your stability in ways that traditional workouts might miss.

If youre following along with our Movement of the Month Club, youll do one pose each day, Monday through Saturday. Then on Sunday, youll combine all the asanas together into a full 5-minute flow.

Do each pose for 50 seconds (25 seconds on each side, where necessary) before moving on to the next one, for a total of 5 minutes. If youre feeling especially tight or if you have more time, feel free to do each move for as long as feels good.

This pose strengthens your lower body (particularly your quadriceps and glutes) and challenges your balance, stability, and focus, while helping improve knee and ankle mobility.

Just like lunges you may do at the gym, this yoga lunge variation helps strengthen your lower body (glutes, quadriceps, and hamstrings), as well as your abdominal muscles.

Another yoga lunge variation, this one also strengthens your lower body and abdominal muscles and can help boost your mood and energy.

Balancing on one leg at a time, as you do in this pose, develops strength and stability in that leg, while improving your balance and practicing your mind-body connection.

Keep a wall nearby in case you lose balance in this pose, which can be challenging. Standing figure 4 (a.k.a. single-leg chair) turns up the level of difficulty for one-legged mountain, making your standing leg stronger and stretching the hips and glutes of your raised leg.

As the last single-leg pose in this series, tree pose also improves balance, stability, and focus, while gently opening the hips and stretching the inner thighs.

AUSTRALIA (CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) - The suspect of an alleged break-in at a bakery appeared to perform a yoga routine.

According to CNN, a bakery store owner was left baffled after a break-in. It wasn't by what was taken, but instead, by the bizarre routine that was captured on surveillance video in the parking lot.

The suspect performed what appears to be a yoga routine before allegedly breaking into the bakery in Australia.

Authorities told CNN that the woman did a series of stretches before she allegedly busted in. Police told the network that no cash was taken, but said several almond croissants came up missing, along with an iPad, a pair of shoes and some cleaning products.

The bakery released the surveillance video, along with a theory, claiming their treats were too tempting for the burglar.

The suspect has since been arrested.

A Pack of Adorable Corgi Puppies Take Over Yoga Class – Laughing Squid

Posted: at 2:40 am

A pack of adorable Corgi puppies joined a yoga class at Sirdies Joga in Vilnius, Lithuania, causing disruption everywhere they went.

(translated) Yoga with the little Corgis was very cheerful and positive! From the first seconds, the little ones ran to the participantsThis time, several yoga girls with long hair were exceptionally lucky, because their little friends did not leave them alone until they at least shortened the ends of their hair a little.

While it seems like a great idea, these little pups may have been too chaotic for the focused moves. Perhaps yoga with calmer dogs or even goat yoga is a better way to go.

MIND BODY SPIRIT: Welcome Villain Films Acquires Worldwide Rights to Yoga Horror. Releasing Across Digital Platforms May 7th! – ScreenAnarchy

Posted: at 2:40 am

I come from a faith-based family and upbringing so this idea of yoga horror tickles me, even within the constructs of the found footage genre. The notion of ancient rituals unleashing unholy entites is not new, I've just never seen it linked to the peaceful and purposeful practice of yoga. This is a first, for me.Oh, I can hear all those church leaders and elders now, "See? See what happens when you open yourself to Eastern practices and New Age religions?".

Alex Henes and Matthew Merenda's found footage horror Mind Body Spirit has been acquired by Welcome Villain Films, who will distribute the horror flick through digital platforms worldwide on May 7th. It looks like it will make one more festival appearance at the Unnamed Footage Festival at the end of the month, with the directors and their star,Sarah J. Bartholomew, in attendance.

Welcome Villain Films, the genre studio that released last years MALUM and BEATEN TO DEATH, has announced their latest acquisition: the supernatural screenlife horror shocker MIND BODY SPIRIT. The film is set to screen at the Unnamed Footage Festival on Sunday, March 31st, ahead of a release across digital platforms on May 7th.

Directed by Alex Henes and Matthew Merenda, MIND BODY SPIRIT follows Anya, an aspiring yoga influencer, as she embarks on a ritual practice left behind by her estranged grandmother. What starts as a spiritual self-help guide quickly evolves into something much more sinister. As Anya becomes obsessed with the mysterious power of the practice, she unwittingly unleashes an otherworldly entity that begins to take control of her life -- and her videos. Now Anya must race to unlock the truth, before her descent into madness threatens to consume her mind, body and spirit.

MIND BODY SPIRIT is such a creative blend of wellness and horror, and really feels fresh and exciting for the genre, which makes it a perfect fit for the Welcome Villain family, says Luke LaBeau, Welcome Villain Films Head of Development. Were thrilled to be working with Alex, Matt and team, and we cant wait to unleash this nightmare on audiences on May 7th.

It has been an immense privilege bringing our first feature film to life. MIND BODY SPIRIT is the kind of midnight movie we grew up watching and loving. Its freaky, its funny and it will definitely f*** you up, say co-directors Alex Henes and Matthew Merenda.

MIND BODY SPIRIT premiered at the Telluride Horror Show, where it immediately made a splash as one of the buzziest found footage films of the year, seamlessly blending horror with all-too-relevant social commentary. Since then its garnered numerous favorable reviews from festival appearances across the country (including Chattanooga 2023), with genre critics touting that the film cleverly plays with the subgenres established conventions to create something spooky, smart, and wholly entertaining (Mary Beth McAndrews, Dread Central).

Alex, Matt, and myself come from the entertainment marketing world, so we relished the opportunity to flex all of our experience and storytelling prowess by crafting a film that embodies everything we love about the genre, says Dan Asma, producer of MIND BODY SPIRIT. Were beyond excited to partner with Welcome Villain Films and to get our twisted creation in front of a wider audience thats eager for original storytelling.

MIND BODY SPIRIT will screen at the Unnamed Footage Festival on March 31st, with in-person appearances/Q&A by the filmmakers Alex Henes and Matthew Merenda, along with the films lead Sarah J. Bartholomew. Welcome Villain has also come on board as official headline sponsor of UFF24.

Bartholomew stars in the lead role of Anya, with support from Madi Bready, Kristi Noory, KJ Flahive and Anna Knigge. MIND BODY SPIRIT was shot on location in Los Angeles.
