Professional Development Resources has announced a new partnership venture with The National Psychologist the Independent Newspaper for Practitioners to publish a series of new online continuing education courses that will offer a variety of brief clinical psychotherapy tips.

Jacksonville, Florida (PRWEB) October 12, 2012

The National Psychologist is an independent newspaper that circulates bimonthly to almost 30,000 practicing psychologists and graduate psychology students.

The first two online courses in the series, which were published this week on the Professional Development Resources website, are titled Psychotherapy Practice Tips, Part 1 and Psychotherapy Practice Tips, Part 2.

These new courses are designed to appeal to busy clinicians across mental health disciplines, who find it convenient to keep up their clinical skills by reading brief articles between sessions or during down time. The time-saving advantage of being able to read a large number of clinical articles in a very short time is important to most psychologists and other mental health professionals, who are required by their licensing laws to complete a designated number of continuing education credits each year.

The courses are very dense, says Leo Christie, PhD, president of Professional Development Resources. They each include 14 or 15 different clinical topics in the form of archived articles from recent issues of The National Psychologist. What is new and different about these courses is that they deliver a great deal of timely information in an easy-to-read format. The topic selection runs the gamut, including tips for treating complex post-traumatic stress disorder, coping with violent patients, the psychological impact of hearing loss, Internet pornography addiction, and more. Busy clinicians should be able to complete these courses online in two hours or less.

The two companies which are coincidentally celebrating their 20th birthdays in 2012 have had a working relationship since 2001, when The National Psychologist (TNP) first contracted with Professional Development Resources to cosponsor the TNP Quiz, which is featured in every issue and awards one hour of CE to those who read the issue and successfully complete the quiz. The relationship has worked and has led from continuing to cosponsor the quiz to the cooperative publication of other CE courses on ethics and risk management in psychotherapy practice.

At the start, all we did was work together on the quiz, says Christie. After a couple of years, Martin Saeman, managing editor of TNP, came up with the idea of creating CE courses based on some of the articles that appeared in the publication. We started out with selected ethics articles, later added risk management topics, and the rest is history. It has been a natural and comfortable alliance.

"The relationship between The National Psychologist and Professional Development Resources has been a good one from the beginning. These latest two new courses simply add a new 'clinical' component to our online CE offerings. Our goal has always been to provide our readers with news and information in an unbiased fashion much of which is not found in similar publications. This alliance is just an extension of this goal," says Saeman.

The two companies plan further cooperative courses including more ethics and risk management courses as well as possibly branching out into other topic groups, including technology and practice building.
