Philip Rivers is not motivated by opportunity to play in new stadium – Bolts From The Blue

The Los Angeles Chargers will move into the new Rams stadium in Inglewood next year. It had long been the expectation that they would do so with Philip Rivers as their quarterback. That now remains an open question as the way the 2019 NFL season has played out has both the quarterback and the team wondering if that would be the best decision for everyone.

According to Chargers beat reporter from The Athletic, Daniel Popper, the opportunity to play in SoFi Stadium as the Chargers quarterback is not a motivating factor for him wanting to return for a 17th season with the Bolts.

The 38-year-old future Hall of Famer has had a down season throwing 18 interceptions to only 21 touchdowns. He has done so playing behind a porous offensive line that shows no sign of taking a meaningful step forward in the near future. The Chargers general manager, Tom Telesco, has not managed to assemble even an average offensive line for even one season during his tenure with the franchise.

Rivers is unlikely to hang up his cleats after the season and even though he likely would prefer to continue playing in Southern California, it is looking more and more likely that El Capitan will be playing in a new home in 2020.
