Despite death and bomb threats, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar held an event in Malaysia and flew back to India unharmed.

KUALA LUMPUR: It has been revealed that apart from chilling threats to bomb a hotel and kill thousands in Penang, the Islamic State (IS) militant group also sent death threats to Indian meditation guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar before his trip to Malaysia.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is touring some countries in the Far East and he landed in Malaysia yesterday (March 27) and few days ago, while he was in Cambodia, we received threat letters from IS, spokesman from the Art of Living Foundation (AOL), Nakul Dhawan was quoted by Chennai-based daily The Hindu as saying in a statement, the Malay Mail Online reported.

The authorities have immediately notified the local authorities. We also contacted the Indian Embassy and conducted an investigation to find the source of the letter. We are going ahead, Nakul explained about the precautionary measures taken after three death threats were conveyed in letters.

Sri Sri is the spiritual leader and founder of AOL, a volunteer humanitarian group as well as International Association for Human Values (IAHV), a Geneva-based charity.

The Times of India (TOI) reported that one letter contained the photo of a man being beheaded, with a warning of similar treatment if they entered Malaysia or any other Muslim country.

The letter also said IS planned to destroy all venues where AOL and IAHV conducted their events, resulting in the deaths of thousands.

According to a Bernama report, a police spokesman confirmed that a hotel manager in Jalan Magazine received a bomb threat in a letter sent by express mail.

The sender was angry with the meditation guru, claiming he had labelled Muslims in Iran and Iraq as infidels and was involved in wrongful activities, the police spokesman explained.
