The human body that God created for us has such an incredible, intricate and miraculous design. Our health and well-being is a treasure from God, over which we have control. God greatly cares how we treat our body and balanced, healthful living is truly a part of what God wants for each of us.

In the Bible, the body is compared to a temple. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6: 19-20). Therefore, lets respect our body as our dwelling place and do one of the most important things we can do for a healthy mind, body and spirit: participate in a regular fitness program. The health benefits of exercise are endless. Exercise can help ease depression, sharpen brainpower, boost your energy, lift your mood, enhance self-image, relieve stress, and so much more.

When was the last time that you spent 30 minutes to an hour a day on your physical well-being? I know a vibrant, incredibly fit woman in her 70s. She is overflowing with optimism, enthusiasm and stamina. So one day, I asked my smiling friend how she does it all, and she replied, I have two careers.

Two careers. What do you mean? I questioned, curiously.

After a moment of silence, she told me, I have my regular office job, she explained bursting with excitement. However, my second career begins every morning at 6 a.m., when I go for my brisk, morning walk.

Then, she leaned toward me as if she were telling me a secret, and she said something that was amazing. I manage my attitude with regular physical fitness, she uttered.

Similarly, American physician and cardiologist, Paul Dudley White, once said, A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world. If something is weighing on your mind, try going on a long walk by yourself so you will have time to think and begin to work through whatever may be bothering you. Heres a tip: Use a pedometer and measure your steps, and you are likely to walk further.

With a physicians okay, start with small, short-term goals. Engage in activities frequently that you enjoy, developing a repertoire of several different things that you really like to do.That way, exercise will never seem boring or routine. Schedule your workout in your planner, as you would an appointment, and abide by it. And, soon, you will reap great rewards.

Find a friend and try jogging or speed walking.
