CAPE CORAL, Fla.- The Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce and Lee Memorial have partnered up for a "get fit challenge."

The idea began with a Lee Memorial employee wellness challenge and has grown from there. They decided to open the challenge up to the community and more than 100 people signed up.

Since the challenge co-sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, a lot of businesses signed up as a team to get their employees in good health, which could in turn mean lower health care costs.

The fitness challenge started with a fitness test. Participants went through blood tests and take a treadmill stress test that compares your chronological age with what they call your "fitness age."

At the end of the 12-week period, they'll go though the same tests again to see who has the biggest improvement.

"It's a great way to being the community and the businesses together but more importantly it gives us a chance to look at ourselves in the mirror at our own fitness levels and wellness levels and serve as great role models of health and wellness in the community," said Scott Kashman of the Cape Coral Hospital.
