A local yogi and entrepreneur has landed on the cover of a national magazine self-described as the go-to guide for the yoga community.

Paige Held, owner of two Fort Lauderdale yoga studios, is pictured doing an extended hand-to-big-toe pose in the June issue of Yoga Journal. The life-long yoga aficionado says it's a dream come true.

"Everyone in our industry wants to be in the Yoga Journal," said Held, 35. "This is an amazing experience that will open more doors for me."

Held's yoga journey took off when she started taking classes at 16. Three years later, she became a certified instructor.

"I fell in love with it because it helped manage stress and fine-tune self-awareness," she said.

Held now owns and operates two studios dubbed The Yoga Joint in Fort Lauderdale, one at 6131 N. Federal Hwy., and the other at 1850 SE 17th Street. Each studio offers about 11 classes a day, she said, and attract about 40 to 45 yogis per class.

Held and her business partner, Kelly Green, also have created Hot Fusion Yoga, a type of yoga that helps students warm up their bodies before they go into flow, Held said. "We pair it with dialogue that helps empower you, like life coaching, and very good music."

Yoga Journal approached Held for the feature based on her experience within the industry, she said.

The June summer issue highlights warm retreats for yoga enthusiasts, includes photos of Held doing yoga poses and information about her studios. It's now available at newsstands.

"We are a fitness and health magazine and want to inspire readers to be strong and beautiful. Paige was just right for that," said Carmel Wroth, managing editor of Yoga Journal. "She's a great, fresh look."
