Yoga meets paddle board with fun results

The waters of Koombana Bay have become an outdoor yoga and tai chi studio for those willing to have a go at the exercises on stand-up paddle boards.

The balancing act of stretching into a yoga pose while teetering on a paddle board has given even the most experienced yoga enthusiasts a fresh challenge.

But wobbling and falling off the boards during classes is all part of the fun, says SUP Bunbury owner Verity Lee.

It is completely different experience on the boards, its more of a challenge of your mind, she said.

Theres also the giggle factor and laughter therapy, its a more casual form of yoga.

Poses you would normally feel confident about on a matt become much harder on the board and you laugh and fall in the water.

Miss Lee has set up her stand-up paddle board hire business at Koombana Bay for the summer school holidays, taking a break from her usual day job as a town planner.

She said the boards popularity had grown in Bunbury because her hire business and Dolphin Aquatic Hire at the Leschenault Inlet had given people the chance to try the sport.

SUP Bunbury has stand-up paddle board yoga classes twice a week and tai chi is run on Sunday mornings.
