On Saturday certified yoga teacher Rachel Delong will guide a workshop to help alleviate back pain through yoga.

Think about how you're sitting right now. Are you slouching forward and feeling pressure in your lower back? Your body is built to be upright and in motion, so it's no wonder that hours of desk work and driving can create painful compression.

Our backs are meant to support us, but we have to keep them healthy, Delong said. Yoga can help to build strength and alignment in the spine, and this upcoming workshop at Revolution Power Yoga will be focusing on those principles.

Delong said the two-hour class will also move students through poses to release tension in the hip flexors and hamstrings areas of the body that can become tight and create discomfort in the lower back.

You're not alone if you experience back pain, she said. But you can do something about it.

The Saturday morning class offers a healthy start to the weekend, and yoga teacher and RPY studio manager Mariah Schuette said it's a great way to be active for a life of longevity.

Come explore the art of listening to your body, Schuette said. Back pain can be debilitating, but through a mindful yoga practice you can find relief.
