Instructor: De West, who co-owns Studio Be with Michelle Anderson. West taught my class and Anderson assisted.

West, of Boulder, has been teaching yoga since 1992. She learned about Kaiut Yoga four years ago.

Anderson, also of Boulder, has been practicing yoga for 24 years and teaching since 2001. She also learned about Kaiut Yoga four years ago when the founder visited Boulder.

"I had profound and immediate changes and insights from the practice," she says. "It felt like it answered many questions that I had about where yoga was going energetically and how yoga really heals."

What is the workout? Kaiut Yoga is a yoga method from Brazil that is based entirely on healing. Every class is different.

The class was not athletic. You could almost liken it to "yin yoga," where you hold certain (often uncomfortable) poses for an extended period of time except with an emphasis on alignment and joints, but not stretching.

The instructors say it will challenge your perceptions of what yoga is.

What's different? This is the only studio in Boulder County where you can find Kaiut Yoga.
