Shortly after the end of the Superbet Chess Classic Romania in Bucharest, the Grand Chess Tour 2024 continues. The third and last stop in Europe is the Superunited Rapid & Blitz Croatia in Zagreb. The event will be organised along the familiar lines of a combined rapid and blitz tournament, with the rapid games counting double, as the blitz tournament will twice as many games as the rapid.

The rapid chess tournament kicks off on 10 July. Three rounds of rapid chess will be played each day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The double-round blitz tournament follows on Saturday and Sunday.

The field consists of seven "regular" Grand Chess Tour players plus three players invited by "wildcard". Apart from Indian Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi and Ivan Saric, who represents the host country, Magnus Carlsen was also due to take part. However, the world number one had to pull out at the last minute due to urgent family matters. Levon Aronian will now play in his place.

The tournament field thus looks like this.
