Horseowners and racersare rallying together to come to the aid of two horses recentlyremoved by the Exploits Valley SPCAfrom the Seal Cove-Fortune Bay area. Kevin McDonald of the Newfoundland Harness Horse Owners Association says one of theaffected animals is a Standardbred race horse that was recently sold by one of their members. McDonald says Standardbreds requirespecialized care over and above that required by average horses including regular grooming, excercise and massage.

He says you have to be dedicated and really love the horse to providethatlevel of care.McDonald says they've collected blankets and are taking cash donations for the horses' care. He says one man in Sunnyside is even donating 18 bales of hay.

He says they're now trying to find a way to transport the hay to Grand Falls-Windsor. St. John's Racing and Entertainment is also accepting donations at Sunday's regular races in the Goulds. Anyone looking for more information can call Amy McDonald at 690-1393 or Kevin McDonald at 725-5470.
