Yoga and Pilates are a great way to get into shape over the summer, but dont restrict yourself to practising in a cramped sweaty studio. Get outdoors and try something new with these yoga lessons and retreats that will change your Warrior pose forever!
SUP Yoga
Embrace your inner yoga mermaid (or merman) to experience one of the latest fitness trends available in London, Stand Up Paddle Boarding Yoga. Your balance and core strength will be challenged as you are tested by the elements to stay focused on your pose whilst trying not to fall in the water.
As well as soaking up vitamin D and connecting with your natural environment, practising yoga around water will give you the benefits of negative ions, which increase your sense of wellbeing and enhance respiratory function.
SUP Yoga classes are currently being run by Pure Yoga Zone at Kew Bridge and Paddington Basin with both group lessons and private coaching available.
Voga
An interesting fusion of Madonnas famous 80s dance and yoga, Voga was created by Juliet Murrell, a former film industry art director, who wanted to combine a cardiac workout with yoga.
Voga classes include stretching and striking a (yoga) pose to an 80s beat, but with a strong focus on the mind, breathing, listening to the beat and expressing yourself. With each new music track, a new flow is introduced, with moves flowing from strong warrior poses to vogue arms.
It gets easier with practise and classes are available at Bethnel Green Working Mens Club and The Proud Archivist, Hertford Road.

Yoga on the beach offered at Colony Recreation Center in Chatham

Yoga on the Beach will be offered at Colony Recreation Center, 55 School Ave., Chatham: Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7-8 a.m., starting June 30.
Practice vinyasa yoga, a series of poses that will move participants through the power of inhaling and exhaling. Vinyasa movements are smooth flowing and almost dance like. Bring your yoga mat or a towel. No experience required.
Outdoor Fitness Boot Camp will also be offered at the Colony: Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings 7-8 a.m.
Boot camp workouts are a great way to burn lots of calories, work the entire body in a short period of time and have fun. The workouts, led by experienced and certified personal trainer and fitness instructor, will mix traditional calisthenics and body weight exercises with interval and strength training. Every meeting is a different mix. Get ready for jogging, jacks, squats, lunges, push-ups, step-ups, dips and much more for simple, yet solid workouts.
Everyone from beginners to advanced exercisers are welcome.
Membership at Colony Pool is not required to take a fitness class. Class prices: $90 fitness for four weeks and $150 for eight weeks. Class prices: $75 yoga for four weeks and $125 for eight weeks. Combined package: $265 for eight weeks Fitness & Yoga.
The above is payable on Community Pass.
Class Schedule: All Classes are 7-8 a.m. Yoga will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays and Boot Camp will meet Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Both classes will start June 30 and continue through Aug. 22. The classes will continue in August if participants are interested. Register on Community Pass.
