What’s new in Tazewell County? – Pekin Daily Times

By David Zimmerman / Tazewell County Board Chairman

Often in talks with friends and family we come to a point in the conversation where one of us asks, Whats new? Fortunately, we rarely run out of things to talk about when it comes to the new things happening in Tazewell County. Our County is a vibrant and integral part of the region with fun activities and new developments occurring on a regular basis. I would like to highlight just a few of the new events and businesses that you can participate in this summer.

On Memorial Day of this year, two of our communities dedicated new veterans memorials honoring those who served our country. In Hopedale, the Hopedale Area Veterans Memorial was dedicated with a stirring speech by Pekin native and astronaut Scott Altman. This beautiful monument contains six large granite stones listing the names of those who served in the armed forces going back to the Civil War including the 109th Infantry. The memorial also has a bronze statue of Marine Captain Reid Nannen, a Hopedale native who lost his life in an F/A-18 accident in 2014. You can find this display near the entrance of the Hopedale Medical Center.

The Memorial Plaza in Morton was also dedicated before a large crowd this past Memorial Day. The Plaza is designed as a gathering place for the community and has as the focal point, the Veterans Memorial with pavers honoring Morton area vets. In addition to the memorial, a waterfall, sitting areas and a childrens play area are also featured.

One old, new thing I look forward to every year is the return of the farmers markets. East Peoria has one every Friday from 3-6 p.m. in the Levee District on the pedestrian promenade near the Target. Thirty separate vendors offer a wide variety of fresh foods and locally sourced goods. In addition, the market will feature local musicians showcasing their talent.

For those with a creative bent, Old School Arts just opened their doors in Morton with the goal of teaching and connecting generations through the arts. Scott and Heidi offer a fun, retro studio where individuals and groups can come paint, draw, write and create in a relaxing, open atmosphere. Are you looking for something for the kids to do this summer that is both fun and educational? Check OldSchoolArts.com and see where your imaginations can take you.

New also this year in Tazewell County is the Fourth Friday Art Loop. As the name implies, every fourth Friday Pekin, Delavan, Tremont and Morton will feature local artists playing their music, displaying their art and other exhibits and demonstrations. Of course there will be food and beverages at each location and everyone is encouraged to explore and shop in each community. What better way to spend a relaxing Friday after a long week in the workplace.

Pekin will be hosting the HOI Food Truck and Music Festival 2017 the weekend of June 24th and 25th. The festival will feature over one dozen bands and awesome eats from area food trucks will be serving delicious meals. This event will be at the Pekin VFW and additional information can be found at EnjoyPekin.com.

The events listed above only scratch the surface as to whats new in Tazewell County. The list could also include the fireworks displays, festivals that each community hosts, camping, floating down the Mackinaw River, fun runs, new restaurants and many other things that keep this area an exciting place to live and play. The next time you are talking with someone and they ask, Whats new, you will have plenty to talk about in answering the question.

David Zimmerman is the Tazewell County Board chairman.

What Is Intention Deficit Disorder? – PsychCentral.com (blog)

Posted: June 21, 2017 at 5:43 am

without comments

Most readers of this article are familiar with the term ADHD which is defined as a brain disorder marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development.

What is less familiar is the term, intention deficit disorder, a different way to look at the problems associated with attention deficit disorder. What is intention deficit disorder and how can it be helped?

Before delving into intention deficit disorder, it may be helpful to review symptoms commonly associated with ADHD:

The upsides of ADHD include:

This condition impacts children and adults through the life cycle and may go undiagnosed, even in the face of disruption in activities, relationship dysfunction, and feelings of personal disempowerment.

As a come clean, this clinician with nearly four decades of experience working with clients who exhibit these signs, carries some of them as well. As I writethis article, I have taken two phone calls, checked emails, signed up for an on- line course, responded to text and Facebook messages, and have contemplated other article ideas. I have been listening to music which inspires me. My mind is like a computer with several applicationsopen simultaneously.

There are times when I believe I can multi-task successfully and others whenI drop some of the plates I am spinning. It is then that I refocus, with the use of re-directive self-talk that sounds like, Okay, we need to pay attention to the task at hand. Once were done, we can move on the next thing on the list. I also imagine how good I will feel when I have completed what I have set out to do. I have become my own cheerleader, rather than hyper-critical detractor.

I have also discovered that when I engage in mindfulness practices, such as deep breathing, listening to relaxing music, meditating and spending time in nature, I am able to get back on track.

Celebs with ADHD

There are numerous notables with the diagnosis of ADHD including Justin Timberlake, Jamie Oliver, Will Smith, Michael Phelps, Jim Carrey, Paris Hilton and Solange Knowles. Each of them taps into the creativity that comes as a gift of the diagnosis. If a person with this condition can harness the positive aspects, they are often equipped to hyper-focus on a project until it is completed. Like any skill, it takes practice. One thing to keep in mind is that the ADHD itself may not pre-dispose these people to succeed, but rather it is inherent talents on other levels that may have them do well in spite of the condition.

ADHD is not an attention disorder. It is a blindness to the future, according to Russell A. Barkley, PhD This experienced clinician, researcher, and author has expounded on the concept of Intention Deficit Disorder which he graphically describes in a video on the topic.

As is the case of many of my clients, Dr. Barkley has discovered that those with ADHD are intelligent people who have the cognitive ability to know what needs to be done, but not always the means to exercise theskills required to follow through. It is when a task must be accomplished that they may be able to rise to the occasion. As long as a deadline seems safely in the future, they practice cognitive dissonance, rather than act on the assignment ahead of them.

A few clients who are high school or college students have expressed that precise dynamic that has had them note an increase in anxiety and a decrease in self -worth when they label themselves for the inability to accomplish what is required as lazy, failures, and slackers, who have disappointed themselves and their parents. Living in the moment, the person with ADHD doesnt accomplish what they intend to do.

Dr. Barkley goes on to say, People with ADHD know what to do, but they cant do what they know. An illustration of the brain highlights the difference. The rear part of the brain houses knowledge, while the front part of the brain houses the practical application of said information. ADHD is, as he shares, like a meat clever that separates the two.

Barkley sees intention deficit disorder as a chronic condition that responds to stricter accountability and consequences and specific interventions.

According to Barkley, 40 percent of adults and 90 percent of children are not being treated for it and he sees it as one of the most treatable mental health conditions that therapists and psychiatrists see in their practices.

Park Ridge to launch concert series geared toward young children – Chicago Tribune

Posted: at 5:43 am

without comments

On June 25, the Park Ridge Park District is launching a new concert series geared toward families and children who are 2 to 10 years old.

Mary Bart, the event organizer, said the series will feature a concert once a month over the summer in June, July and August with a new children's entertainer at each event.

The series also will feature Jeanie B! and the Jelly Beans on July 23 and Istvan & His Imaginary Band on Aug. 27.

The June 25 event will start at 2:30 p.m. at Prospect Park with a 45-minute performance by Jamie Martin, a local children's performer known as Miss Jamie. Martin said that she loves Park Ridge and looks forward to seeing her fans there.

She said that music has always been a part of her life. She got into children's music four years ago after her daughter, Taylor, was born as a way of staying close with her while also putting her music skills to use.

"I noticed how the children were so taken by singers and people doing children's music classes," Martin said. Martin was raised on a farm in Austin, Texas so creating a country character seemed like a good idea to her.

Bart said that she got the idea for the program from the existing summer concert series and thought about how all of the music was geared toward adults. From there, she decided that she would create a series for younger kids to enjoy.

"We have an entertainment series for adults, and the kids come to it and love the music, but it's basically for adults. And I really wanted something that brought the families together with music for the children," Bart said.

"It gives them something else to do as family on a Sunday. During the summer, we're going to the pool all the time, or to the parks to play, but it's something different," she added.

Bart said that if it rains, the concert would be moved inside at Prospect Park.

Martin will be preforming songs like "Farm Hokey Pokey," "Wheels on the Tractor" and "You Are My Sunshine," as well as some originals. Martin said that she will also try to teach the kids positive messages through her songs.

"I want to impart lessons onto them through my music like eat healthy, exercise, work hard, be patient, be loyal, be friendly, and be nice to those around you," Martin said.

Martin also said that she tries getting the kids up and dancing during her performances so that they're exercising while also having fun.

"There's lot of music, lots of fun, dancing, singing along, and laughing and having a good time," Martin said.

Martin said that she enjoys performing because she loves to "do something that really bring parents and their children and their parents together in a way that's wholesome and healthy."

"I love it when kids come up to me and tell me that they read my books at night before they go to bed and they play my CDs every day in the car," Martin said.

Bart said that every family should take advantage of the free family concert.

"If you're looking for a fun and relaxing evening, enjoy our weather out here before the cold winter days come," Bart said. "Take advantage of listening to our music or our movies in the park with your families. It's intergenerational: for grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, moms, dads."

Retreating to nature for my mental and physical health – ChicagoNow (blog)

Posted: at 5:43 am

without comments

When was the last time you took a break for just yourself? When did you slip away to your favorite spot and just rest? Do you even have a place where you can retreat to when life just gets too much for your brain to handle?

Do you escape into the adventures of a book? Do you meditate? Do you put on the headphones and let your mind wander to the tunes of your favorite musical artist?

I have found the need to venture into my peaceful place more and more lately. If the weather is less than ideal or it's late at night, the relaxing music of the Piano Guys has done wonders for my soul. I will listen to them on an endless loop, letting the worshipful tones of the cello and piano take my mind away from what ever that day's stresses are.

Living within walking distance of the Fox River is a joy, so when weather permits and even sometimes when it doesn't, I make a beeline for what has become one of my favorite places on this planet. It is a small stretch of creek that empties out into the Fox River and it's just steps away from downtown suburbia. What makes this place even better is that this little piece of Heaven on Earth is just a couple miles from my apartment.

If you know me at all, you will know that I enjoy nature. I have a deep love for wildlife, even the creepy crawly ones. I find the same joy in spotting and handling wild snakes as I do when I have the honor of seeing a mink taking a dip in the creek.

Each trip down to the creek is a venture into the unknown. Every time I walk along the shore of the Fox River or dip my feet in the cool water of the creek, it is a different experience. In the past few years, I have seen animals and insects I have never seen before.

I treasure the moments and conversations I have with people of all ages while out on the river, whether it is helping educate them on the importance of the native snakes or holding a tiny Spiny Softshell Turtle for a young child to see for the first time. I often joke that this place is my anti-depression medication. But, that isn't far from the truth. More often than not, my physical and mental well being are drastically improved after an hour or so out in the wild.

Science, got to love science, has proven what I have found empirically. Countless studies have concluded that time spent outside impacts our body in positive ways.

Connecting with nature can increase dopamine levels in the brain which in turn helps reduce pain. Being out in natural settings not only makes you feel better emotionally, but it also contributes to your physical well being by reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.

Some studies have even said that just taking a break in a quiet room and looking at pictures of natural settings can boost cognitive functions.

So with all this in mind, I wanted to share just a look at my little piece of Heaven. I hope that at least for the next four minutes, you can find a bit of relaxation.

Dion Lunadon: Music to Move to – Daily Utah Chronicle

Posted: at 5:43 am

without comments

Known for his work with A Place to Bury Strangers and The D4, musician Dion Lunadon has just released his debut solo album on June 9. Self-titled, the albumis straight out of the New York punk scene and brings the best parts of his First Wave predecessors.

Each track brings the same intensity to Lunadons variation on the first wave of the punk movement. The intentional guitar feedback, heavy bass lines and guttural vocals are very engaging; its really easy to experience a physical reaction to each song, to invest emotionally into them because Lunadon is also sincerely invested. Hanging by a Thread has a repetitive, upbeat, electronic melody with the occasional heavy guitar lick and almost spoken vocals appearing only at the close of the track, which made it seem more like an instrumental and calmer, kind of relaxing.

Most tracks feature guitar melodies in a lower key, intentional feedback and a vocal presence. These tracks get the listener emotionally invested in the album. The wall of sound behind the lyrics build in intensity as they progress, reaching Com/Broke. This song has a prominent guitar and the drums become more pronounced after which the more relaxed Hanging by a Thread, is like taking a calming breath.

Dion Lunadonbrings movement to mind, a room full of moving people having fun. The arrangement of the songs mimics the way the crowd moves from the initial quick tempo to almost a frenzy. The calm moment in the middle is like leaving the room for a few minutes, then coming back to join the movement again but faster. The feelings in this album are fun and a little intimidating, but its easy to feel connected to Dion Lunadon and the themes in his works.

Howl, Insurance Rent and Taxes and Hanging by a Thread were definitely standout pieces in an album that came together very well. It is available on vinyl and on iTunes.

Rockahock Bluegrass Festival draws loyal fans – Daily Press

Posted: at 5:43 am

without comments

The Rockahock Bluegrass Festival drew guests from all over Virginia last week with vendors hawking wares, bands playing southern-style tunes and the campground offering its swath of summer activities.

The festival's masters of ceremonies, award-winning bluegrass radio hosts "Sweet" Brenda and Calvin "Him" Lawson, returned to the festival June 15-17. The couple hired what they said were the best bands from Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina to play under the Rockadome in the late spring days.

Sharon Silver, a longtime photographer for this festival, expressed her support for the Lawsons' choices.

"Any time Brenda and Calvin pick groups to be on that stage, they're going to be the best," Silver said. "They're always going to have good music."

John Bullard, a banjo player for the band Heritage, said their companionship with the guests wasn't just a comforting perk, but a factor that went so far as to influence the band's song list.

"Donald (Warthan) and his wife, Carol, know everybody down here," Bullard said of the Providence Forge-based singer. "That last song we sang, 'Mary Dear,' a lot of their friends really know that song ... they recorded it a long time ago. So doing that kind of thing really pleases a lot of these folks here, because they know it and they want to hear it."

Bullard said the venue, with its covered and paved amphitheater, was particularly rewarding to perform in. He said the combination of the partially enclosed setup and the campgrounds' sound team made the music appropriately balanced and broadcast.

Dennis Reamy, the dobro player for Virginia Central Bluegrass Band, agreed with Bullard on the quality of the venue and the community.

"I've been playing since the '70s," Reamy said, "so I know a lot of the people who come to these places all the time. This is like a social gathering."

One of the habitual guests at the festival was Randy Fitzpatrick, who said he had a permanent campsite at Rockahock, and was enjoying being off work in the perfect weather. Even though Fitzpatrick was raised in Michigan, he said his paternal grandparents were from eastern Kentucky, so bluegrass was in his blood. He said people who didn't have the opportunity to come out last week may be able to look at the schedule and know what music they missed, but would most certainly be shorted of the event's warm atmosphere.

"Camaraderie with the people everybody's just so nice," Fitzpatrick said. "It's just relaxing, calm. You gotta like bluegrass. A lot of people don't like bluegrass, but growing up like that, I love it."

London Symphony Orchestra is bringing its music to life with motion capture – Wired.co.uk

London Symphony Orchestra has more digital recordings than any other orchestra in the world. Since opening in 1904, they have gone from gramophone recordings to digitised film scores. Now, after 113 years of classical music, the orchestra is moving into new territory: forming a visual identity with motion capture technology.

At a Barbican rehearsal in June 2016, Sir Simon Rattle, music director of LSO, donned a motion capture suit and gloves to conduct a performance of Elgars Variations on an Original Theme, Enigma. Using a specially modified conductors baton with reflective markers, a motion capture team from the University of Portsmouth was able to track Rattle's upper body, arm, hand and finger movements from the beginning to the end of his performance, over a 45 minute period.

London Symphony Orchestra

London Symphony Orchestra

Over the course of Rattle's performance, 12 motion capture cameras were used to record 120 frames per second. Using these recordings, it was then possible for digital artist, Tobias Gremmler, to transform this data into a series of animated films, bringing to life the sheer power of music at full force and in startling colour. The result is a vortex of wood, brass, smoke and strings, all derived from Rattle's sweeping gestures.

London Symphony Orchestra

Alex Counsell, principal technician at the University of Portsmouth, told WIRED about the process of transforming a conductor's music into visual images: "The art of the conductor is to convey the score, making every gesture as natural as possible. Using motion capture data we're able to visualise Sir Simon Rattle's conducting movements in great detail and learn more about his interpretation of the piece. Additionally, it provides new information on the relationship between the conductor and the instrumentalists. Learning more about how instructions relating to tempo, volume and much more are communicated to the musicians."

The transformation of Sir Rattle's performance is an example of how data visualisation can be used to project visual emotion onto a piece of music. As Rattle's arms sway to the lull of string instruments, so the spirals he creates grow looser, calmer in colour, almost relaxing upon the air. As the tone reaches a frantic climax, we move to minutia, a pulsing set of squares, like dominos collapsing without end.

London Symphony Orchestra

The art produced by LSO's motion capture project is largely impressionistic in nature, with a digital twist. However, Rattle's performance has also been used to develop two custom typefaces - with the conductor himself having cut them into being. Each letter has a particular swipe through one point, where Rattle's baton cut through air.

London Symphony Orchestra

LSO's experiments with motion capture technology can be used to reflect a performer's physicality during extremes of musical expression - how a body changes to reflect certain pitches in sound, or scores that necessitate rapid motion.

The animated films derived from this project will form a "visual language" that will introduce the LSOs 2017/18 season, demonstrating the colourful, passionate motion of the orchestra's performers.

Switchfoot empowers youth with performance at airport – Del Mar Times

Posted: at 5:45 am

without comments

Amidst the sounds of overhead announcements and the general hustle and bustle of an airport, live music filled terminal two at San Diego International Airport on the morning of June 19 when Switchfoot performed a brief concert with children from the area.

The Grammy Award-winning musical group, which hails from Encinitas, played three songs with local youth to celebrate the band's nearby art installation at Gate 36 and to preview its upcoming Bro-Am music and surf event on June 24 at Moonlight Beach.

The gallery will be on display for airport travelers past security checkpoints through September. It includes photos, instruments used on the band's albums and customized surfboards, commemorating Bro-Am, which is entering its 13th year.

Lifehouse, Donavon Frankenreiter, G. Love and Cisco Adler are also slated to perform. There will also be various surf competitions, including the More BRO than Pro Team Surf Contest, the Rob Machado Bro Junior Surf Contest, the Challenged Athletes Foundation Kids Surf Contest, and the comedic Surf Joust Expression Session.

Jon Foreman, lead vocalist and guitarist for Switchfoot, considers Bro-Am a "group hug" with Encinitas.

"We were just over in Europe last week, and there's something really special about being able to travel the world and know that your hometown still plays a huge part in who you are," he said.

Players from the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory, as well as fourth through sixth grade singers from Casillas Elementary in Chula Vista, joined Switchfoot on stage for two songs during the special airport performance.

Foreman, after finishing the bands signature song Dare You to Move, said supporting the children is at the band's core. Each year, Switchfoots Bro-Am Foundation raises money and awareness for underprivileged and at-risk youth.

"I think part of me likes kids more than I like adults," he said, smiling. "I feel like kids are honest and real, and music is the same way where it has this honesty. For me, I think back to when I was a kid and music became this vehicle that I could use to go places. I want that same empowerment for the next generation."

The band teamed up with Casillas which was recently recognized as a VH1 Save the Music school and received $35,000 in band equipment earlier this school year when they heard the choir was learning the band's song "Float." Switchfoot, after surprising the students in class, then invited the children to perform with them at the airport and at Bro-Am.

Lilly, a 10-year-old Casillas student, said she was excited to sing with Switchfoot and just be able to participate in the arts in general.

"Sometimes people with cell phones and other electronics can just forget the things that entertained us before that stuff," the fourth grader said. "We're helping to spread the influence of art all around the world."

Briandi, another 10-year-old fourth grader, agreed, adding music is important because "it helps your brain develop and is relaxing."

Casillas Music Teacher Jonathan Seligman said he is grateful to Switchfoot for performing with his kids and for being humble in the process.

Seligman considers the performing arts for kids as vital.

"It's a way for them to express themselves," he said. "Our school is very well known for its sports, but there are still those students who are not able to express themselves because they're not athletically inclined. When music first came to Casillas, you just saw a lot of people who were in the shadows of these athletes. For a group like Switchfoot validating this and telling us we're doing a great job, that's huge."

Bali police search the tunnel where four inmates including Australian Shaun Davidson escaped – NEWS.com.au

Posted: at 5:45 am

without comments

Australian man Shaun Davidson is among four foreign inmates who staged a daring escape from Bali's Kerobokan prison, and remain on the run from Balinese police.

Police show pictures of the Kerobokan jail escapees Shaun Edward Davidson or Eddie Lonsdale or Michael John Bayman from Australia, Sayed Mohammed Said from India, Dimitar Nikolov Iliev from Bulgaria and Tee Kok Ming from Malaysia.

FOUR Bali jail escapees are still on the run today as authorities intensify their search for how the men escaped Kerobokan jail in broad daylight in a busy suburb.

The four foreigners, including Perth man Shaun Edward Davidson, were discovered missing at yesterday mornings roll call and authorities believe they may have tunnelled out via an old water drain.

A view of the tunnel that an Australian and three other foreigners are believed to have escaped through outside Kerobokan prison in Bali, Indonesia. Picture: Putra SinulinggaSource:AAP

Police wearing scuba diving gear have now entered the jail. It is believed they are going to enter the tunnel which authorities believe was used by four men to escape.

Badung police chief Yudith Satriya Hananta said the divers would endeavour to go inside the 15 metre long tunnel. Equipment is currently being used to pump all the water out of the tunnel.

Police wanted to check the tunnel to ensure that no one was trapped inside, he added.

We want to check the tunnel. Where it goes, how deep it is and find out all things, to anticipate if they may still be trapped there, Mr Hananta told News Corp Australia from inside Kerobokan prison.

So far there are no witnesses who saw the men emerging covered in mud from the drain, just under an unmanned guard tower at Kerobokan prison and on a busy street.

And despite a police dragnet to hunt them down including sea searches, there has been no sign whatsoever of the four men.

Our team are still working. They havent been found yet, Bali police spokesman Hengky Widjaja said today.

There are now calls for security at the overcrowded and understaffed jail to be increased.

And there are questions about whether the men used the tunnel to escape amid revelations that there is no excess soil around the tunnel entrance to indicate it had been dug out recently to allow four men to fit inside.

The Bali Ombudsman this morning visited Kerobokan jail and met the Jails Governor about the case which has made headlines around the world.

Mubarok, the assistant ombudsman, said the jail security needs to be stepped up.

Security has to be tightened, because this is not the first time prisoners have escaped from the jail, Mubarok said after inspecting the suspected escape route tunnel.

He questioned why there was no fresh soil near the tunnel entrance.

We are wondering why there was no sign of any soil dug there. Maybe the hole has been open for a long time. It is at the clinic it is 15 metres long with diameter around one metre. Even inside, people can stand, Mubarok said.

We are yet to know what was it for? If they dug it, around eight to 10 cubic metres of soil should be around it. But where is the soil? So, it is alleged that the tunnel has already been there for a long time, but we dont know what the function (of it) is.

We have conveyed to the prison to reveal everything about this case. All the guards should be questioned and intelligence functions inside should be activated. The prison should increase their security to anticipate any other cases like this. Prisoners escaping through a tunnel has never happened before.

So far police have questioned 10 jail guards who were on duty at the time of the brazen escape but there is yet to be any clear answer as to how the four men escaped so easily. The prison has long been overcrowded 1378 inmates supervised by only 11 guards most of the time. The prison was built for just 323 prisoners.

Jail Governor Tonny Nainggolan said the ideal guard-to-prisoner ratio is one guard for 20 prisoners but at the moment there are 11 guards for 1300-1400 prisoners. Mr Nainggolan said he had previously requested an extra 200 staff but had no response from the Ministry.

The tower near where the tunnel emerged just outside the jail was unmanned due to staff shortages.

Davidson, 32, from Subiaco in Perth, had just two months and 15 days left to serve of his one-year sentence for fraudulent use of another mans passport. He was also wanted in Perth on drugs charges.

A Facebook page, believed to belong to Davidson, shows photos and videos of Davidsons life in Kerobokan jail. His last public post was on May 18.

On May 12, he posted a Facebook live video titled Relaxing with brother Bashir, another jail prisoner, and appears to be filmed in a cell where Davidson and Bashir chat live with others.

Hows it going? This is Bashir, hes a good man, have a chat to him. Say hello people, an Australian accent, believed to be Davidson, says. He says they are kicking back, relaxing and listening to music.

On April 11, Davidson posted that he was doing Bintang (beer) and movies and videos of him boxing and sparring in jail are also seen.

In another post he alludes to my book and story.

Mobile phones and the internet are meant to be contraband inside Kerobokan prison, but Davidson appears to have had unfettered access to them.

The last time a prisoner escaped from Kerobokan jail was 2013 when a man, on gardening duty outside the prison walls, simply walked away.

In late May a Peruvian prisoner on ATM fraud charges, miraculously escaped by squeezing himself through a window in the toilet of the holding cells at Denpasar District Court, where he was waiting to appear.

He was caught less than a week later, in Pekanbaru, Sumatra, and has since been sentenced to six years in jail.

Of those who escaped this week, Davidson was serving the shortest sentence.

Indian drug smuggler Sayed Muhammad Said was serving a 14-year sentence. Bulgarian ATM scammer Dimitir Nikolon Ilev was serving seven years, as was Malaysian Tee Kok Ming, on drug charges.
