Xi declares 'success' as US trip ends in Hollywood
Posted: February 18, 2012 at 9:30 am
Chinese leader-in-waiting Xi Jinping declared his US visit a "full success," as he rounded it out with a Hollywood film deal and a trip to a basketball game in Los Angeles.
Xi made the comments on Friday, in the final hours of his five-day trip, which started with power talks in Washington and included a charm offensive trip to America's heartland, where he reached out with billions of dollars in farm deals.
"I can now say my visit to the United States has been a full success," Xi said in a visit to an LA school with US Vice President Joe Biden, adding that his meetings with Biden and President Barack Obama had been "very fruitful."
Echoing the warm remarks, Biden -- who visited China last year -- joked: "I envy a lot of things about him, starting with his full head of hair. And I admire his stamina. We have given him virtually no time to sleep."
But Biden also reiterated a key message Xi has heard this week -- that the United States wants Beijing to play the same "rules of the game" to reduce the enormous trade imbalance between the two heavyweights.
"We very much want to see more of our business in China, and Vice President Xi has committed to making that possible," he said, adding: "The faster the US economy grows the more Chinese citizens will benefit."
In America, "we all welcome the competition," he told Xi, who is expected to lead the rising Asian power for a decade starting next year.
But he added: "The crux of our discussion is that competition only benefits everyone if the rules of the game are fair and being followed.
"So we will continue with the Vice President and the Chinese government to make sure that everyone is playing by the same rules, and everyone is on a level playing field."
Xi hailed Biden, saying: "We have established a good personal friendship and working relationship."
Recalling how China competed in the Olympics in 1984 for the first time after being re-admitted, adding that Chinese relations have "made some twists and turns" along way, but "over the years we have made some headway."
Building further cooperation between the nations "is the right strategic decision that serves the interests of both," he said.
Protests have accompanied Xi throughout his trip, and did so to the last: hundreds of Tibetan and Falun Gong activists rallied outside his LA hotel Friday, along with a group of pro-Chinese activists waving red Chinese flags.
A string of deals were signed in the sidelines of Xi's visit, including one Friday by "Kung Fu Panda" US studio giant DreamWorks Animation for a $330 million Chinese joint venture, Oriental DreamWorks.
The tie-up, unveiled by DreamWorks Animation boss Jeffrey Katzenberg, will team his California-based studio with three Chinese companies -- who will hold a majority 55 percent stake -- to operate a studio in Shanghai.
Katzenberg told AFP a short time afterwards that Oriental DreamWorks' first film was expected to be released in 2016.
Ruigang Li, chairman of one of the companies China Media Capital, added: "We share the same vision with DreamWorks Animation to build a world-class family entertainment company."
The announcement came as Xi rounded off a US trip that included a meeting at the White House with Obama, who urged China to play by the "same rules" in the global economy but voiced hope for cooperation.
Xi then traveled to Iowa, where a business delegation accompanying him agreed to buy 317 million bushels of soybeans from major US companies, in a deal estimated to be worth $4.3 billion.
On Friday he was spending his final hours on US soil at an economic forum in downtown Los Angeles, before a National Basketball Association game between the LA Lakers and the Phoenix Suns at the Staples Center.
A commentary on his US trip Friday in the overseas edition of the People's Daily -- the mouthpiece of China's Communist Party -- said the visit had "deepened mutual understanding" between China and the United States.
"Xi Jinping's visit was not long, but it had a big impact in promoting exchanges between the two peoples," it said. "This partnership will certainly see a more healthy development."
The Chinese leader starts the next leg of his trip in Ireland on Saturday. He is also due to travel to Turkey before returning home.

Wellness assessment directs path to get-fit success
Posted: at 5:26 pm
Are you feeling stuck in a workout rut? Or not seeing the pounds shed as fast as you would like? A full fitness and wellness assessment may be your answer for pinpointing ways to reach your goals. If you have plans for self improvement, it is helpful to know what you are starting with.
A series of tests, lifestyle questions, measurements and movements are part of an advanced technique to help individuals get in shape the healthy way. Foxnews.com literally ran the gamut to show how to achieve optimal fitness safely, intelligently and effectively with comprehensive knowledge of how the body functions.
NYC’s Equinox’s Tier 4 personal training program is a preventive care program that first analyzes your current state of being compared to goals you would like to achieve, and from there creates a manageable plan for self improvement.
Metabolic Rate
First step, a metabolic testing assessment. “The resting metabolic rate is going to give us an indication of how many calories your body uses at rest for all the functions in your body, to work right,” Rick Garrigan, T4 Coach and EFTI Master Instructor told Foxnews.com.
Garrigan points out that you want your metabolic rate as high as possible while in a fasting state. This indicates a fast metabolism. Some things that will slow your metabolism down are “skipping meals, going too long, causing your blood glucose to fluctuate.” Garrigan said.
Other numbers crunched included blood pressure and resting heart rate.
Personal Profile Questions
The next step in creating a personal profile involved a series of questions about my family’s health history, stress levels, any orthopedic injuries, exercise history, daily nutrition, lifestyle and fitness goals.
Questions included:
“How many cups of coffee do you drink a day?”
“Does your family have a history of cancer?”
“Have you had an reoccurring injuries?”
“Are you currently taking any medications?”
“Any late night snacks?”
These questions are important because “this gives me an in depth look at where you are now, any possible medical conditions that could come up in the future as we approach you from a preventative care standpoint” Garrigan said.
Garrigan points out that as a personal trainer they aim to develop an open relationship to help with the entire management process of your health, “keeping open lines of communication with your doctors as well.”
Body Composition
Next up, it was time to get measured and pinched. Body composition refers to the proportions of body weight in terms of lean body mass and body fat. Garrigan says it is essential to have some body fat, but excess levels pose serious risks.
Height, weight, and head to toe measurements were taken, “to give us a baseline to see where you are before you start the program and say if you put on any muscle, how the body changes.”
Functional Movements
A functional movement screen includes 7 full body motions like a deep squat, in-line lunge, and a hurdle step. Observing how these moves are performed can help indicate any injuries, and “gives an idea of any asymmetries, any differences in your body.”
Cardiovascular Fitness Test
The same breathing mask used to gather resting metabolic rates went back on for the cardiovascular test. A heart rate monitor was also put on and it was time to run.
The aerobic fitness test gages the ability of the heart, lungs, and circulatory system to supply oxygen and nutrients to working muscles effectively. Garrigan points out that this is generally considered to be the most important fitness component.
The results award your Maximum oxygen consumption (Max VO2) level—which is a measurement of the maximum rate your body can consume and process oxygen during exercise. The higher, the better your cardio fitness.
The results of a comprehensive wellness exam indicate any potential health risk factors, yields a non-scientific “body age,” and creates a personalized plan with tips for meeting your goals. Often, these assessments are continued at various times throughout training to make sure you are on track to meet your objectives.
The end goal of this preventative care program is “to establish healthier patterns to give you a better quality of life,” Garrigan said.
Ask your doctor or fitness center if they offer full wellness exams. Become a member of Equinox’s T4 program by signing up here.

Success in 7 Short Steps

People who succeed in their jobs and in life are typically blessed with a special blend of four qualities: efficacy (self-confidence), resilience, hope and optimism. This mental confection, which scientists call psychological capital, reflects our capacity to overcome obstacles and push ourselves to pursue our ambitions. Not surprisingly, having lots of it is linked to both personal and professional fulfillment.
Although individuals vary in how much of this motivational firepower they possess, the amount is not fixed. You can boost your psychological capital and the key is changing your habits. Simply deciding to improve your outlook won t work. Instead, people need to cultivate a positive mindset through rituals and goals, say University of Nebraska management scholars Fred Luthans and Peter Harms. Here s how:

Courtesy of redcargurl via Flickr.
1. Write a gratitude letter. Consider the people and things you are most grateful for and write them down. If you wish, you can write a letter to a person who means a lot to you. The recipient is likely to be touched. But if addressing an individual is uncomfortable or inappropriate, pen a note to yourself about all the things that are going well or that you feel fortunate to have. Set aside a time each day to do this. For instance, write one journal entry each night just before bed listing the good things that happened to you and what you are grateful for. Too much of the time, we focus on our fears and problems, because those relate to situations we need to avoid or solve to survive. But if you stop to count your blessings, you will realize how lucky you are.

2. Seek out the good things in life. Make an effort to find situations that make you feel happy and proud. Spend time with those who love and support you. If you know people who make you feel miserable, don t interact with them. Although criticism can be a good thing, Harms says, unrelenting criticism rarely is.
3. Don t forget to relax. Exercise or meditate on a daily basis, even if you only have a short time to do so. Fifteen minutes per day to clear your head and relax has been shown to be associated with both happiness and physical wellbeing. Getting enough sleep helps as well, Luthans says.
4. Put problems in perspective. Think about the true scope of your troubles. Not everything s the end of the world, Harms reminds me. In fact, he adds, most of us worry about relatively minor hassles and concerns on a daily basis. You worries will seem less significant if you compare them to those of people in the throes of divorce, who have lost their jobs or who have been diagnosed with a serious illness. Harms gets his perspective from soldiers he sees regularly for one of his projects. These are people who are putting their lives on hold to go to a place where people are trying to kill them, he reports.
5. Set achievable goals. Make sure your aims are meaningful to you so that you gain satisfaction from completing them. Make them challenging, but also realistic and specific enough that you can act on them. If you are too ambitious, you will set yourself up for failure. Then keep a record of your progress so that you can look back and see how far you have come. Seeing that improvement is possible will motivate you to keep moving forward.

6. Do nice things for others. One way to get in the habit of doing nice things for others, suggests Luthans, is to put three rubber bands around one of your wrists and transfer one band to the other wrist each time you do something kind for another person. The bands can serve as reminders to finish your three tasks before the day ends.
7. Spend money on experiences, not objects. Better yet, spend money on other people. Individuals who are given cash and told to spend it on others report higher levels of wellbeing than those who spend it on themselves, Luthans says.

7Figure Sam Provides 4 Personal Trainer Marketing Tips For Big Success In 2012
Posted: at 4:30 pm
January and February are goldmines for personal trainer marketing. Yet, within 5 or 6 months, much of a trainer’s new business is gone and it’s back to the drawing board. Sam Bakhtiar is owner of the Fit Concepts franchise in Chino Hills and a millionaire personal trainer/entrepreneur. Here he shares 8 tips for sustainable success in 2012. More free advice is available at http://www.super-trainer.com.
Chino Hills, CA (PRWEB) February 15, 2012
Studies consistently show that most new gym members sign up in January, but cancel their memberships within six months. This can be considered a failure of personal trainer marketing, according to Sam Bakhtiar, owner of the Fit Concepts franchise in Chino Hills, California and millionaire personal trainer. It is not difficult to find new members at a time when everyone is focused on a fresh start and New Year’s resolution to lose weight. Yet, sustaining their interest can be a challenge. Over the past 20 years, Sam has refined his methods and come up with 4 essential tips for running a sustainable business in 2012.
1. Stay Fresh. “Good personal trainer marketing is about making a new client feel as though he or she is your only client. From the day my people sign up, I am there – always,” Sam explains. “I send them welcome cards with motivational quotes and pictures. I send them goal statement cards, milestone cards, holiday cards, event cards, and notes just because. Keep an eye on your new people to make sure their attendance is not dropping. If someone misses a class, you’d better be on the phone.”
2. Brand Yourself. “You need to eat, sleep and breathe your brand every day. Your brand becomes a promise to the client that you stand for the highest values and quality in your business. You want to become a source of great enjoyment for your clients, so it’s easier to prioritize you and harder to live without your services.”
3. Use Methods That Work. “There are limitless methods of personal trainer marketing online these days,” Sam says, “but you need to know which ones lead somewhere and which ones are all hype. First and foremost, referrals are our bread and butter. Daily deal sites will get you tons of leads, but you need to be ready to handle the volume and convert. Google has always been a vital part of any online business. Running contests, challenges and promotions to keep your existing people engaged is well worth your money and effort, as retention is cheaper than new client acquisition. Public speaking events are a great way to get your face out in front of the community and I always recommend trade show lead boxes as well.”
4. Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Basket. According to Sam, “This industry is all about multiple revenue streams. Run a boot camp program in addition to your individual personal training. Sell e-books, podcasts of your workout music, DVDs, webinars, and branded workout clothes. Get into selling energy bars, smoothies, supplements, protein powder, educational materials, or another affiliate product. Use advertising on your blog to generate passive income. The more irons you put into the fire, the more income you bring in, plain and simple.”
Visit http://www.super-trainer.com to get a step-by-step personal trainer marketing manual, which is being offered free for the month of February ($97 value).

Thirdwind.com has Launched Interactive Community Dedicated to Empowering People to Achieve Success

Thirdwind.com has launched an interactive community dedicated to empowering people to achieve "true" success by realizing both their professional goals and personal dreams. According to Best Selling Author of "Igniting Your True Purpose and Passion", Robert Michael Fried, "True success involves a lot more than striving for that corner office, reaching for the next pay raise, or keeping up with the next door neighbor. True success always involves reaching out to others - beyond ourselves."
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 15, 2012
For many success is defined as the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence. People have different preferences regarding the goals of life. Thirdwind.com has launched an interactive community dedicated to empowering people to achieve "true" success by realizing both their professional goals and personal dreams. According to Robert Michael Fried, Best Selling Author of Igniting Your True Purpose and Passion, "True success involves a lot more than striving for that corner office, reaching for the next pay raise, or keeping up with the next door neighbor. True success always involves reaching out to others - beyond ourselves."
While one’s achievements may be remembered after death, the success that he or she experiences lasts only as long as the individual lives and sometimes not even that long.
For example, an important meeting of the world’s greatest financiers took place at Chicago in 1927. Present were Charles Schwab, President of the largest steel company; Samuel Insull, President of the largest utility company; Authur Cutton, the greatest wheat speculator; Richard Whitley, President of the New York Stock Exchange; Albert Fall, a member of the Cabinet; Jessie Livermore, the greatest bear on Wall Street; Ivar Kreuger, head of the world’s greatest monopoly; Leon Fraser, President of the Bank of International Settlement; and Howard Hopson, President of the largest gas company. All these men were considered to be outstandingly successful, yet what happened to them?
Charles Schwab died bankrupt. Samuel Insull became a fugitive and was considered to be insolvent. Authur Cutton died abroad insolvent. Richard Whitley was sent to prison. Albert Fall was pardoned in prison, and died at home. Jessie Livermore committed suicide. Ivar Kreuger committed suicide. Leon Fraser committed suicide. And Howard Hopson went insane. Surely something must be have been wrong with the goals of these men and with what people believe success to be, even if only temporary. It is true most of us equate success with financial success. But this success lasts at most only for a lifetime, and the old saying is certainly correct: “You can’t take it with you.” While financial success or popularity may be regarded as success, it is not the success that really counts! Financial success or eminence in this world is not true success. What we need to become aware of and evaluate is true success.
True success involves a lot more than striving for that corner office, reaching for the next pay raise, or keeping up with the next door neighbor. "True success always involves reaching out to others - beyond ourselves," says According to Robert Michael Fried, Best Selling Author of "Igniting Your True Purpose and Passion." But achieving the kind of total success articulated by Emerson is clearly no easy task.
The path to achieving true success is often strewn with potholes and boulders. Fried offers these tips:
1. Take it personal - If we take the same amount of time and energy planning our personal lives as we do our business life or career we would likely live a more meaningful, balanced and personally enriched life. In short, strive to make it your business to turn your life into your most successful venture yet!
2. Don’t limit yourself by labels - Remember what your do is not who your are. Author Joe Robinson suggests we carry an ID card with two sides. One side would have your title or profession, the other side would describe the authentic you, the you at your very core. For instance, Judy Brown: Galloping Gourmet. John Smith: Storyteller Extraordinaire. Don Porter: Renaissance Man.
3. Write down your personal goals - Write down your personal goals as well as your career goals. Make sure your goals are quantifiable. There needs to be time and numbers attached to your goals. You might want to lower your golf handicap by three strokes over the next twelve months. You might want to increase your personal financial portfolio by twelve percent over the next two years. You might want to spend two weeks next summer on a European vacation with your family.
4. Hone in on what really matters most - Things that really matter most in your life should not take a backseat to things that matter least. Remember, your personal values, integrity and self-worth are not determined by your valuables. Time in one resource we cannot regenerate. Accordingly, invest your time wisely on that which is really important to you (i.e. family, friends, health, and yes, your career). Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that your career isn’t important. I’m just strongly suggesting you don’t overweight your career at the expense of other important things in your life.
5. Expand your reach - True success always involves reaching out to others beyond yourself. You can revel in the success of your children. You can contribute to your urban community. You can be a patron of the arts. You can help clean up your environment. You can mentor a person who needs your help. You can care for the elderly. YOu can give to charitable causes. By reaching out to others we often reap the returns and personal satisfaction that real success can bring.
6. Make meaning - See yourself making meaning as well as money. Judge your level of true success accordingly.
7. Don’t be afraid to fail - In short, don’t be afraid to fail in your quest for true success. Your very striving means you are already on the right road. The passes we go through in life will continue to through us some curves and knuckle balls. However, we can take some solace in words of Viacom CEO Sumner Redstone: “Success is not build on Success, it’s built on failure.”
Robert Michael Fried is the best selling author of Igniting Your True Purpose and Passion. He is a marketing executive who has guided the strategic direction for companies like Motorola, Nautilus, bebe eye-wear, and several emerging Silicon Valley firms. He is co-founder of Thirdwind.com, a company dedicated to helping people achieve true success by making meaning as well as money.

Chiropractic Center Announces Success Treating Wilson Fibromyalgia Patients
Posted: at 11:08 pm
WILSON, NC--(Marketwire -02/14/12)- Kurtz Chiropractic Center announced that the practice has had success treating Wilson fibromyalgia patients. The practice uses a combination of chiropractic care, laser therapy, massage therapy and lifestyle counseling to provide long-lasting pain relief. According to the practice, some patients now no longer need to take medication to manage their pain. Kurtz Chiropractic serves patients in Wilson, Elm City, Bailey, Middlesex, Kenly, Lucama, Rocky Mount, Pinetops, Black Creek and Stantonsburg. The practice also treats personal injury and auto accident injury patients.
Chiropractor Dr. Colin Kurtz announced that his practice provides treatment for Wilson fibromyalgia patients. The practice provides natural pain management through a combination of chiropractic adjustments, laser therapy, massage therapy and lifestyle counseling that focuses on nutrition and exercise.
"Many of our patients come to us feeling frustrated and overwhelmed," said Dr. Kurtz. "Either their medical doctors don't believe their symptoms are real, or they've tried a variety of different medications with no success. We're here to say there is hope! We've had tremendous success using natural pain management to treat the underlying causes for fibromyalgia pain."
Fibromyalgia is a debilitating health condition characterized by chronic pain in the upper, lower, right and left quadrants of the body, typically affecting patients at tender points. Patients suffer from widespread tenderness, including lower back pain, neck pain, headaches and joint stiffness. Patients may also experience muscle spasms, difficulty sleeping, fatigue, and prolonged stress that can affect the body's metabolism.
"Patients with this condition respond remarkably well to a combination of therapies, including spinal adjustments and laser therapy," said Dr. Kurtz. "When the body is out of alignment, the nerves are unable to send and receive messages, leading to internal confusion that is manifest in chronic pain. Adjustments restore balance to the musculoskeletal system by realigning out-of-place vertebrae that may be inhibiting the healing process."
The practice also uses laser therapy to provide relief for sore muscles. During laser therapy, a laser penetrates deep into the affected muscle tissue, increasing circulation that helps stimulate healing and naturally relieves pain. Laser therapy can also help patients recover a full range of flexibility and motion by stimulating and loosening stiff, sore or tense muscles.
The chiropractor also recommends massage therapy for his patients. According to Dr. Kurtz, massage treatments provide immediate relief for lower back pain, soreness at tender points and other pain.
"The act of massage soft muscle tissue stimulates the flow of oxygenated blood," said Dr. Kurtz. "Like laser therapy, this treatment helps promote internal healing while relieving pent-up stiffness in the muscles."
The practice also offers nutrition, exercise and lifestyle counseling to patients. "As a chiropractor, my goal with every patient is to ease pain and enhance well-being, and a combination of treatments including lifestyle counseling can truly make a difference and reducing everything from low back pain to inflammation," said Dr. Kurtz. "We also recognize that what works for one patient does not necessarily work for another, which is why we provide individualized treatment programs. We take the time to get to know each patient and his or her wellness needs in order to create a personalized program."
Prospective patients can learn more by visiting the practice's website, http://www.kurtzchiro.net.
