Stuart Mathieson: Manchester United will benefit from Danny Welbeck’s Euro 2012 success
Posted: June 27, 2012 at 3:13 pm
When Uniteds Euro 2012 England contingent kick back on the beaches and reflect, only Danny Welbeck will look back on his adventure with any real sense of satisfaction.
That personal contentment will, of course, be tempered by the fact that his first Three Lions tournament ended early.
But it shouldnt detract from positives the Mancunian striker has added to his CV.
His Old Trafford colleagues wont look back with the same pride.
Wayne Rooney should be kicking himself as hard now as he booted Montenegros Miodrag Dzudovic last October.
That act of stupidity resulted in his two-match ban and meant the Reds hitman not only missed the start of the tournament, but couldnt hit the ground running when he did return, as shown by his sluggish performance in the quarter-final against Italy.
Roo did spark briefly with his headed winner against Ukraine but it didnt herald form that saw the 26-year-old take an international finals by the scruff of the neck like he did as a teenager at Euro 2004.
Ashley Young went to Poland and Ukraine backed by five goals from his previous seven caps stats that promised an influential contribution from the winger.
However, slamming his penalty against the crossbar in the shoot-out against Italy merely topped off a miserable Euros for him.
Meanwhile, defender Phil Jones came home without adding to his cap haul.

Cypress Semiconductor: Could Benefit from "Surface" Tablet Success

For most of the past year, Cypress Semiconductor (NASDAQ: CY)has sailed into headwind after headwind. There is a good possibility, however, that the winds may be changing.
We can look at the stock on a chart and see how it peaked in mid February. From there it started a bearish trend to where it trades today at $12.51.
What I find interesting is that an analyst, Sterne Agee, reiterated that it believes the stock is a buy and has a price target of $19. A 52% price increase! Why so bullish on the company?
One move that Cypress has continually pressed is its bid to buy competitorRamtron (NASDAQ: RMTR). So far though, it has resisted Cypress attempts to purchase the company. Ramtron International Corp turned down rival Cypress original offer of about $87.6 million, but it was refused in order to explore other options. What was the reason for the brush off? It did not believe that Cypress offer reflected the intrinsic value of the company, and the deal would not be good for its own stockholders. Then, Cypress made a second bid. Now it is looking at buying outstanding shares for about $2.68 per share in cash, which is close to 47% above current value.
But this would be a great merger for Cypress. It would be a shot in the arm for its Memory Product Division, which generates about 42% of the companys total revenue through SRAM Memory. Ramtron has what is called ferroelectric RAM (F-RAM), a good complement to Cypress SRAM memory.
This is one strong positioning move the company is making for the future, but I believe the real reason Sterne Agee is so bullish on the stock is because of its relationship with Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and the launching of the Surface tablet. Agee asserts: "For CY, the 11-15" Touch surface is a $4-$6 per unit opportunity versus $2 (or under) in handsets." This makes the Surface much more profitable for the company and its touch sensor control chips.
If it is embraced by consumers, the 10.6 screen, which is larger than the AppleiPad screen, and the touch sensitive key pad will be real selling points. Cypress has a relationship with Windows 8 and it could be the beginning of a tablet-cover market that also includes Cypress technology.
It will not be the only company to benefit. Initially there will be two versions of the Surface; one will use an Intelchip and the other will use amicroprocessor made by ARM.This is where it will compete with the iPad.

Proving social media success is all about analytics

The elusive social ROI. Executives demand it, marketers search for it.
But its actually not so elusive, especially for those marketers whove embraced the latest social technologies. In fact, there is a treasure trove of data available.
Perhaps, however, marketers should not be thinking old-school marketing metrics for todays social web. For social, its more about the ROE (return on engagement) than the ROI.
Theres no denying the importance of social for marketers, as Facebook closes in on 1bn consumers and Twitter tops 200m, not to mention emerging platforms like Google+, Instagram and Pinterest.
And as smartphone proliferation continues to rise, literally hundreds of millions of mobile consumers will make social networks their on-the-go portal. Mobile social will be the future and provide us an even more personal and detailed look at a consumer, virtually 24/7. Thats a lot of data.
By now, every major brand has a social presence. But proving exactly what that social presence is doing for your brand, and how it helps you reach our goals, should be priority number one for marketers.
Executives are asking for analytics to prove social ROI, but social is a completely different medium that requires a different way of looking. Executives might be looking for the old-school ROI but ROE can offer much more including brand awareness and loyalty that lay the foundations for invaluable consumer-to-brand relationships.
An engaged consumer can be much more powerful than a few sales, they can be a walking brand ambassador.

MELAKA (Herald Malaysia): When you add all the distractions and the pressures in todays world, Christian parenting becomes more than a challenge. A huge part of this challenge is passing on ones faith to their children who live in a society that is moving towards freedom from religion instead of freedom of religion.
Family man and old hand facilitator, Martin Jalleh backed his presentation with humour, and personal experiences in a two-hour two-way dialogue with parents whose children will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at the parish of St Peters on July 1.
He said, First, as parents, you must live out your faith. It is impossible to give away something you do not have or possess. Children these days can spot a phony from a mile away. They are looking for the real deal from their parents. Living your faith can start with simple things like showing love, kindness, generosity, sharing time, exchanging views and just being involved with them. If your young ones see you finding ways to be a blessing, it will become a natural and normal way of life for them too.
Then you can also share your faith in their lives. Being a part of an active church shows your young ones that spending time with God is important. Another great way to share your faith with your children is to allow them the opportunity to make and develop Christian friendships by attending parish organised activities and gatherings.
Jalleh also commented that present day culture advocates strong parental involvement in pushing children to ever greater heights of success in studies, music, sports, and careers. However, by the law of averages, not every child will attain greatness, but that does not mean every child is destined to live an unsuccessful life, he added.
Some parents want their child to become exceptional at something versus a child with well-balanced and rounded life experiences.
Just enjoy everything as children are gifts from God and so are their abilities and talents. Also it is good to remind children that just because you are on top now, does not mean you will be on top later. Likewise, on the flip side, just because you are at the bottom now does not mean you will have to stay there always.
One of the major problem I see in our culture is that parents measure success in the wrong way, such as getting a good job, a nice home and family. We Christians put so much effort into the more secular side of success, but the measure of success for our culture do not always reflect the values we ought to have as believers in Christ.
Parents these days are tied to their childrens successes or failures. We view failure as a reflection of our ability as a mother or father. We need to separate our own identities from our children.
I think so many people feel they have to define their kids now, but we need to remember that Gods view is so different. It is not the achievement that is important, but the character that is developed through success and failure.

From conception to creation, an entrepreneur’s journey to success
Posted: at 11:12 am
Like many before him, hopeful entrepreneur Jason worked on a business he wanted to launch while in Dr. Cornwall's program. His plan was to move to Montana and open a coffee shop. However, as is often the case, nothing went according to plan
In May of 2005 Jason Duncan walked across the stage at Belmonts graduation. At that moment he became the first alumnus of our new entrepreneurship program.
Jeff is the Jack C. Massey Chair in Entrepreneurship and Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.
Like many who have followed him, Jason had worked on a business he wanted to launch while studying in our program. His plan was to move to Montana and open a coffee shop. He even had a name for his coffee shop EVOKE.
However, as is often the case, nothing went according to plan.
Try as they might, he and his wife Jenni were never able to open their coffee shop in Montana. But they did find a way to get into the coffee business. Since every attempt to open a store seemed to meet a roadblock, they adjusted their business model and opened EVOKE as a mobile coffee catering business.
EVOKE did not set out to be a mobile coffee catering company, said Jason. But what we found out is that we grew up doing this, made money, and knew that we now had a foundation to stand up on.
Although they had success with their mobile coffee catering business in Montana, in 2008 they decided that their best chance for long term success was to move EVOKE to Jasons home town of Oklahoma City.
When we moved EVOKE to Oklahoma City, we knew we had two options: to work our tails off and learn from our mistakes in Montana or shut EVOKE down and move on, said Jason. We knew we could be better. We took the first option and worked tirelessly to run a solid company based on what we had planned years ago.
Jason and Jenni realized they would have to adapt their business model once again in this new market.

Katy Perry Hints Russell Brand Was Threatened By Her Success, Made Her Choose Between Him Or Career
Posted: June 25, 2012 at 5:11 am
Katy Perry has never revealed the reason behind her split with husband of 14 months Russell Brand but in her new documentary Part Of Me 3D the star hints her success may have driven them apart.
In an upsetting scene for the 27 year-old she is seen hysterically crying backstage minutes before a show and later admits that finding her life partner hadnt been the fairytale ending she had expected.
The Firework star also implies that Russell may have been jealous of her success and had weird motives for his behaviour.
"I thought to myself, 'When I find that person that's going to be my life partner, I won't ever have to choose [between the partner and my career] she admitted,
they won't be threatened or have weird motives. Then I started to realize, that's not true.
Clearly the marriage had not been what the star expected and she confessed on camera that she wasnt happy.
That fairytale I had is not true for me right now, she added.
Katy was the bigger star when the couple got together and grew even more during their marriage while Russells career failed to ignite with movie flops such as Arthur. The singer was also on her Californian Dreams tour for much of their short marriage. Russell filed for divorce in December last year, in the movie Katy claimed she did everything to save her marriage.
She said: "I have that same belief system with everything, from career to my life to my personal life, everything. And I will do everything it takes to not fail. And I did everything it took but it still failed."

Wired for success: Potential new Grizzlies owner Robert Pera known as driven

Robert Pera's Ubiquiti Networks had humble beginnings, as evidenced by this photo of the company's original headquarters in San Jose, Calif.
Kyle Veazey/The Commercial Appeal
Ubiquiti Networks, founded by Pera, has grown and is now headquartered in a two-story building near the San Jose airport.
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Robert Pera's fast climb to amass the cash to buy the Memphis Grizzlies began here, in Silicon Valley, in a run-down, two-story office building across from the county courthouse.
It was 2005, and the Grizzlies were ending their second consecutive trip to the NBA playoffs. The scrappy electrical engineer, then 27 and renting a tiny apartment, left Apple to launch a lean little electronics firm. His timing was perfect -- precisely when villagers in Paraguay, urban dwellers in Mumbai and the new industrial hordes of Shenzhen were craving cheap and reliable wireless Internet access.
From that tired office on a street dotted with bail bondsmen, Pera birthed a money machine. Ubiquiti Networks Inc., which has since moved into a tony San Jose office park across the parking lot from electronics giant Toshiba, designs inexpensive gear for wirelessly accessing the Internet.
Sales neared $200 million last year, when the company went public and Pera's shares put his net worth near $1 billion.
Earlier this year, the young basketball enthusiast sought out Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley. On June 11, he entered into a purchasing agreement to buy the team. The NBA is evaluating whether to approve the sale, a process that should be complete by the end of the summer.

More than 200 volunteers make annual truck and tractor a success
Posted: at 2:15 am
TOMAH, Wis. -- Some of the biggest and best trucks and tractors are back in Tomah this weekend, to see just how much weight they can pull.
The annual Budweiser Dairyland Super National Truck and Tractor Pull is taking place all weekend at the Tomah Recreation Park.
More than 400 people from all over the country are putting their engines into high gear for the competition, and these are not your average "on the farm" trucks and tractors.
Some of these pullers spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, trying to make their engines as powerful as possible.
The event attracts thousands of spectators each year and organizers say it drives in about $15 million dollars.
"In the economy that we have today, these kinds of things are so important for the overall economy, especially of a community of this size, said Julie Zebro of the Monroe County Agricultural Society. So you need to be able to bring something to town so that they have a successful year and so that they stay in business."
Coordinating an event as big as this pull takes quite an effort. The only reason this event is even possible is because of the volunteers.
More than 200 volunteers spend their time working to make this event run smoothly and they say the experience they have during these four days is worth more than they could ever be paid.
I do it because I could not do it, said David Hall, a volunteer.
The truck and tractor pull is something Hall looks forward to every year.

Enjoy success, but don’t overwork, Jessica Sanchez

Jessica may be at a crossroads in her life even though she is experiencing immense professional success during this current two-year period. A choice between work commitments and personal desires may create conflict resulting in tension and possibly even bouts of poor health. She should continue to enjoy excellent success but must not overwork. An important friendship or relationship in her life will shortly come to an end.
Aries
You may find it hard to reconcile the differences between yourself and other peoples views on love. This wont stop you from getting excited about new romantic prospects, however. All sorts of unusual characters are likely to come your way in the coming weeks.
Taurus
Youll be happier to spend time with someone whos supportive of you at this time. They may not be quite as exciting or progressive as some of the other people around you, but youll need solid anchoring for a day or two to point you in the right direction and this person may just help.
Gemini
Some of lifes spurts of excitement now may not be long-lasting, so savor every moment. Work commitments cause you to miss opportunities, but look at this as a positive opening for you to explore other avenues of your life independently.
Cancer
Friends you feel have passed over you reconnect by taking the first step. If youve been isolated or lonely, its best to be out and about rather than staying home. Pick up the phone and call a few friends to create a social situation for yourself rather than living in a bubble.

Katy Perry: Russell Brand divorce because of work, success: Favorite people

Katy Perry blames world tour, surging career for split with Brand
Katy Perry is finally talking about her split with Russell Brand, and she's not pointing any fingers, more or less.
In her new movie, "Part of Me," Perry says the biggest strain on their marriage, which all but ended when he filed for divorce six months ago, was her packed touring schedule, with Perry using her rare days off to take trips to see Brand.
In one scene, People reports, Perry is seen sobbing uncontrollably backstage just before her show. Eventually, she rallies. "Start time," she says before hitting the stage.
And it didn't help, she says, that her career was taking off.
"I thought to myself, 'When I find that person that's going to be my life partner, I won't ever have to choose (between the partner and my career) ... they won't be threatened or have weird motives," Perry says. "Then I started to realize, that's not true. That fairytale I had is not true for me right now."
She also says the last thing she wanted was for the marriage to unravel.
"I have that same belief system with everything, from career to my life to my personal life, everything," she says. "And I will do everything it takes to not fail. And I did everything it took but it still failed."
