Greene's success spurs Williams

Posted: July 4, 2012 at 4:16 am

Rhys Williams feels the example of rival Welsh 400m hurdler Dai Greene can spur him to success in the Olympics.

Williams was named in Great Britain's squad for London 2012 after winning the European title in Finland last weekend.

The 28-year-old fell in the Olympic trials but ran the Olympic 'A' qualifying standard in Helsinki to join world champion Greene in London.

"He has improved massively but I know for a fact he's no more talented than myself," insisted Williams.

I honestly think I can run a yard faster in the next four weeks of training, which is good enough to make that final

"It has always been a case of 'well if he can do it, I know that I can do it'.

"It's been a tough one because obviously he's [Greene] run exceptionally well.

"Usually your biggest rivals, the world champions, aren't usually guys from your doorstep

Greene won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and European Championships, then followed that up by taking the world title in Daegu the following year.

His personal best of 47.88 seconds is just short of the 47.82 set by British record holder Kriss Akabusi at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, but well clear of Williams's 48.96 mark.

Adam Levine describes past drug use as "valuable, beneficial experience"

Posted: at 4:26 am

without comments

Adam Levine has been very chatty as of late, letting the general public in on all sorts of personal information including his revelation that he believes he is very deserving of all of his success.

However, the star has gone a little deeper in revealing how experimenting with drugs in his past provided a "valuable and beneficial" life lesson for the singer. The Maroon 5 front-man says,

"I definitely, firmly believe that the experience I had on mushrooms made me understand certain things about myself that I probably wouldn't have otherwise...What I took away from that experience was valuable and beneficial to me. It really forced me to look at myself."

Adam went on to say that taking mushrooms helped him to reconnect with the "wonderment" he experienced as a child and began to lose in adulthood. The singer continued,

"It's so corny to say but it's true; you just get in touch with the wonderment you have as a kid that you tend to lose. Obviously if you abuse a drug like that you'll never come back and end up as a f**king psychotic maniac."

Adam has enjoyed enormous success in his band Maroon 5, but unlike some bands of today, he's not quick to dispel their rapid, mainstreamsuccessas a cop-out. The star dismissed the notion that mainstream recognition is "uncool", saying,

"Aspiring to pop success is not a bad thing...Some bands seem to be shy about going for it. For a time, it became uncool to try...When we were making Overexposed, we were embracing who we are - a band that plays pop."

Georgiou Group is a privately owned, national civil infrastructure, building construction, and property development company that has harnessed over 30 years of success through sustained growth and strategic decision making.

Entering the Western Australia resource sector in 2007, Georgiou began diversifying the scope and scale of its projects following the development of the groups mining services business unit. A determined contractor, Georgiou exceeded expectations through targeted capability in civil and building services, and provision of earthmoving equipment to the resources industry.

The addition of the mining services business unit to the companys overall business structure transformed Georgiou into a complete turnkey operation which enticed the company to seek opportunity in Queensland in 2008 and Victoria shortly thereafter.

Over the past five years, Georgiou has finessed its formula of project experience and thought leadership into a service offering that meets the demands of a booming Western Australia and Queensland resources market.

The groups future will see strategic planning expand at depth, increasing the experience of the organisation and venturing into the oil and gas sector.

IKEA Continues to Support Save the Children’s Early Steps to School Success Program

Posted: at 3:21 pm

without comments

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Since 2008, IKEA US has been committed to Save the Childrens Early Steps to School Success program. The early education program supports low-income families by providing early childhood development services, including home visits by early childhood coordinators. This summer, during the month of July, every time an IKEA customer scans the IKEA Family card, a donation will be made to Save the Childrens Early Steps to School Success program. To date, IKEA has donated over $625,000 to this program.

Simply put, early childhood education is essential to teaching kids how to learn. And yet,two out of five kids in America today arent enrolled in any kind of preschool program, said Mark Shriver, Senior Vice President, Save the Childrens U.S. Programs. Without a quality early education program, children born into poverty will fall 18 months behind their peers by age four. Our partnership with IKEA supports programs that help give these kids a fair shot at success in school and life.

In America, nearly one in four children lives in poverty. And research shows that children affected by poverty are less likely to attend preschool, have their parents read aloud to them, and graduate from high school. Research also confirms that the first three years of life shape a childs readiness for entering school. Whats more, the parent-child relationship plays a critical role in whether the child is cognitively, socially and emotionally developed - all of which impacts the childs motivation to learn.

In partnership with schools and community-based organizations, Save the Children provides early childhood education services to pregnant women, mothers and children 0 to 5 years of age. Early Steps program coordinators implement this work through a home-visiting model for expecting families and those with children ages 0-3. For children ages 3-5, the program includes transition-to-school activities and education services for the parents.

Save the Children has been working for more than 20 years to develop and support Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) programs and national-level policies that benefit young children and their families. Through Early Steps to School Success, Save the Children is building strong foundations for parenting and school readiness, while serving as a powerful catalyst to help children achieve a lifetime of learning. IKEA is pleased to continue to support this valuable program.

Balotelli: Victory all that matters

Posted: at 10:18 am

Spain v Italy 1st Goalscorer: Mario Balotelli 7/1

Much has been made of Cristiano Ronaldo's failure to take a penalty during Portugal's shoot-out defeat to Spain on Wednesday amid claims the former Manchester United man wished to take the last kick because it offered more personal glory.

At the start of the tournament, it would have been easy to imagine Balotelli taking a similar stance.

However, throughout Italy's run to Sunday's final against Spain, the 21-year-old has acted with a rare maturity.

And, though he is the only one still involved amongst a group of players level on three goals, Balotelli insists the personal glory is not his overall aim.

"If we win and I score, it will be amazing," he said.

"If I don't score and we win it will still be amazing.

"I am really happy at the moment and on Sunday I hope I will be even happier.

"We are in the final. We are one of the two best teams in the tournament. We have to go there and play to win."

And should the Azzurri triumph at the weekend, he will have winners' medals in a major international tournament, in addition to the Champions League, titles in England and Italy, plus the FA Cup.
