George Lucas says that he’s not done with filmmaking after selling Lucasfilm to Disney
Posted: at 6:47 am
For decades, George Lucas has been telling the media that he wants to make small, personal films after the success of Star Wars. Now that hes given up control of his company to Disney, he may finally get that chance.
Lucas attended Ebony magazine's Power 100 Gala on Friday night and told The Associated Press that he will make his own little personal films from now on.
The comments followed Disneys $4.05 billion purchase of Lucasfilm and the announcement that a seventh Star Wars movie will be released in 2015. Kathleen Kennedy, who has known Lucas for years and was named co-chair of Lucasfilm in June, will take over as president.
I've turned it over to a wonderful producer, Kathy Kennedy, and I've known her for years. She's more than capable of taking it and making it better than I did, Lucas said Friday.
Lucas added that he is sad to see his company go, but added, I'm ready to move on to bigger and better things.
He has also said that he will donate most of the money from the sale to an educational foundation. The rest of the money will go to help him make his smaller films.
Lucas last project was the first of these films to finally reach the big screen. He produced Red Tails, a film about the legendary all-black Tuskegee Airmen during WWII.
I'm going to go further out than that, he said Friday. I barely got Red Tails into the theaters. The ones I'm working on now will never get into the theaters.
Lucas has always been adamant that making small films is a personal goal for him. In January, he told the New York Times that he was retiring from blockbusters after a fifth Indiana Jones. That franchise will now also be run by Disney.

THE allure of Martell Cordon Bleu is in its smooth, mellow styling. With notes of candied fruit and spice, this XO cognac wraps your palate like velvet and lingers like a sweet memory.
When Edouard Martell created this blend 100 years ago, he knew he was onto something great. So confident was he that he gave the golden elixir a blue ribbon the universal mark of high quality and success.
What audacity, what arrogance. Yet, no one has disputed the fact that Martell Cordon Bleu is one remarkable cognac.
Edouard took over two years to craft and perfect his special cognac, a blend of over 100 carefully selected eaux-de-vie. The great-grandson of Martell founder Jean Martell, Edouard knew that the secret was in the crus. The house of Martell only works with four main crus in the Cognac Appellation d'Origine Contrle, namely the Grande and Petite Champagne, Fins Bois and Borderies. The latter is the smallest but is the veritable hallmark of all Martell cognacs, especially the Cordon Bleu.
Martell practices double distillation, keeping only the most refined eaux-de-vie in its cellars. These eaux-de-vie are then aged in old casks of fine-grained oak for decades, at least.
In 1910, Edouard and his cellar master, Auguste Chapeau, started work on a special cognac for the house. In some way, it was meant to be a tribute to his great-grandfather's philosophy on cognac-making "It must be the best, and without artifice".
When he debuted the Martell Cordon Bleu in a grand launch at Monte Carlo's iconic Htel de Paris in 1912, it was an instant hit throughout the world. Wherever the rich and powerful gathered, lived, played or travelled, there was Martell Cordon Bleu on the Orient Express, in the bars and eateries of the Compagnie Gnrale Transatlantique, on the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary in May 1936 and even on board the Concorde from 1975.
Today, on tabletops of premier hot spots around the globe, Martell Cordon Bleu remains a declaration of discerning taste and sophistication. In fact, Martell Cordon Bleu continues to be the social lubricant in various circles, from royalty and high-flying corporate captains to luminaries in the worlds of art, music and cinema.
In March, more than 250 illustrious guests from all over the world gathered in Monte Carlo to celebrate the centenary of this XO.
The location could not have been more appropriate. Paradisiacal weather over 300 days a year, with Mediterranean beaches at one end and ski trails of the Alps at the other, Monaco has served as the social epicentre of glamour and luxury for over 140 years now. Based on the number of luxury yachts moored at Port Hercules, it is apparent that the principality has yet to lose its lustre.

ACE Says Future Success of London Insurance Market Depends on Innovation, Collaboration and Partnership with Emerging …
Posted: at 6:47 am
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The Chairman of ACE European Group, Andrew Kendrick, today told Londons insurance industry that it must avoid complacency and reinforce its position as the global centre for insurance through innovation, collaboration and recognition of the shift towards emerging markets.
Speaking to over 300 senior managers from the London insurance market at the Xchanging London Market Conference, Andrew Kendrick highlighted the change in the centre of gravity of the world economy. He stressed that the London insurance market must look further afield for opportunities as the source of insurance activity shifts and as emerging financial centres in Asia and the Middle East continue to rise up the rankings.
One thing I havent seen a great deal of, over the last 34 years, is long-term vision... and thats why Im excited by Lloyds Vision 2025. Its really encouraging to see the future direction of the market set out over a ten to 15 year period We should adopt this as the blueprint for London, he said.
Noting that four of the worlds top ten financial centres are now to be found in the Asia Pacific region (according to the Global Financial Centres Index1), Andrew advised that insurers must not rest on their laurels and expect new business to come to them but look towards emerging markets, offering advice and best practice to create mutually beneficial partnerships that will serve London well in the future.
He continued: London is in a very privileged position to influence and shape the future. No other insurance centre has the same ability to help emerging insurance markets develop the right frameworks, standards and skills to support their future development.
During his speech, Andrew emphasised the need for more innovation to meet new risk challenges and highlighted Londons ability to take the lead due to its unique mix of skills and expertise. Innovation is one of Londons great historical strengths, he said, and if the collective expertise exists anywhere to find solutions to our emerging risk challenges, then it is here. In particular, Andrew suggested that London could position itself as the recognised global centre for cyber insurance due to its collective expertise not only in underwriting and broking but in the legal sector too.
In his final piece of advice for the market, Andrew said that London must adopt a mindset of collaboration to unlock greater value for clients and demonstrate the relevance of insurance today. The insurance industry has much value to add value beyond underwriting, he explained, adding that London has re-emerged as the undisputed centre of global insurance broking. Emphasising the importance of a three-way partnership between insurers, brokers and clients, he said: Brokers have always been central to Londons success they can, without any question, help to keep our industry and London relevant.
In summarising, Andrew said: If London is to be the global standard setter, a leading innovator, and a trusted partner for the worlds emerging markets, it cannot restThe challenges are real, but I believe the opportunity for London to reclaim its rightful leadership place has never been clearer.
A full transcript of the speech is available on the ACE European Group website at http://www.acegroup.com/eu

Success story: Goal of trimming down evolves into new lifestyle

After making a Starbucks run every day for 116 days on her way to the hospital to see her ex-husband, Carol Lott saw that 116 venti white chocolate mochas had taken a toll on her waistline.
Photo by Lesley Young Carol Lott started working with a personal trainer to lose weight for her daughter's wedding, but soon she rediscovered her love of running. She completed her first half marathon last December. "It was so cool," Lott said.
"I got on the scales at one time, and I weighed 140 pounds," said Lott, 50, president of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors. "I'm a 105- to 110-pound kind of girl. I was like, 'Oh, my gosh. I have got to do something."
The extra pounds and a looming deadline her daughter was set to be married in less than a year got Lott moving.
She hired a personal trainer and began working out three days a week for 30 minutes at a time.
Over time, those workouts turned into hourlong sessions and increased in frequency to five or six times a week until Lott achieved her goal.
"I was where I wanted to be for the wedding," she said.
But something else happened along the way.
Not only had Lott made fitness a part of her life, but she also rediscovered her love of running.
"In high school, I ran track and really enjoyed it," she said. "I just took a 30-year sabbatical from it."

Cung Le Had to Leave “Super Camp” To Get Personal Attention Needed for UFC Success
Posted: at 6:47 am
The nature of training is different for every fighter heading into a big bout in the UFC.
One staple throughout MMA in recent years, however, has been the explosion of the super camp featuring a number of top fighters all working together under one roof, and one set of coaches to get ready for upcoming competition.
Gyms like Team Greg Jackson, American Top Team, and American Kickboxing Academy have become synonymous with great training and building champions.
Recently, however, more top fighters are shying away from the super camp atmosphere because, for all the rave reviews about the great coaching and training, there seems to be something lost when it comes to personal attention when preparing for a fight.
Brian Stann recently admitted that he felt that a little bit when working with the team at Greg Jackson's facility in New Mexico, and while he still has nothing but love and respect for his coaches and teammates, he needed a little more personal attention and focus heading into a fight.
The same can now be said for UFC on Fuel TV 6 headliner Cung Le, who has worked for years with the coaches and team at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, Calif. It was his last full camp there in preparation for his bout against Wanderlei Silva in his UFC debut that forced Le to re-evaluate things a little bit.
In my camp against Wanderlei, with King Mo (Lawal), it took a lot out of me, wore me out, and sometimes you need that person who manages everything to say, you're not working out tonight.' I didn't have that for that camp, Le told MMAWeekly Radio.
American Kickboxing Academy head coach Javier Mendez works with a huge number of A-list fighters, including former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, Strikeforce Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier, Jon Fitch, Mike Swick, and several other top names who work at the gym.
While he'll always be a part of the team, Le admits that to really get ready for a fight, he needed someone to focus on what he was doing right or wrong, and point him in the right direction. He just couldn't be another cog in the machine anymore.
Just being in the UFC, it was one of my dreams, and for my fight against Wanderlei, I didn't have the best camp. It was very unorganized, and that's why I brought Scott Sheeley out for my second fight, and now Scott Sheeley just manages my whole training camp, Le revealed.
