Saratoga: Personal Ensign showdown pits Royal Delta vs. It's Tricky

Its Tricky will make her first start since winning the Ogden Phipps on May 28 in Sunday's Personal Ensign.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. They have combined to win 15 of 24 starts, 10 graded stakes, and accrued $3.7 million in purses. One is the champion 3-year-old filly of 2011; the other is undefeated in three starts this year.

As far as head-to-head matchups in racing go these days, Sundays showdown between Royal Delta and Its Tricky in the Grade 1, $600,000 Personal Ensign Invitational Handicap at Saratoga is about as good as it gets. The Personal Ensign is a Win and Youre In race for the Breeders Cup Ladies Classic to be run Nov. 2 at Santa Anita. The Personal Ensign winner gets her entry fees paid and a $10,000 travel stipend.

[Complete coverage of racing at Saratoga: News, PPs, and video]

Royal Delta defeated Its Tricky in last years Alabama here and in the Breeders Cup Ladies Classic in November at Churchill Downs to secure the championship in the 3-year-old filly division. After dropping her first two starts this year one being the Dubai World Cup in March Royal Delta has come back with a blowout win in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis at Churchill and a gutty neck victory in the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap last month at Delaware Park.

Royal Delta, trained by Bill Mott, had a wide trip at Delaware and appeared to be laboring a little due to either an early move or dislike for the surface. Yet she fought back when Tiz Miz Sue came to her in the stretch.

Tiring but classy enough to hold on, Mott said, in summing up the performance. I dont think that filly was ever going to get by her, which is an interesting thing to find out. A lot of times a horse can blow by you if theyre full of run, but if they run to you and you can fend them off that shows you something.

Run at 1 1/4 miles from 1995-2011, the Personal Ensign has been shortened this year to 1 1/8 miles, something that is likely to bring Its Tricky and Royal Delta closer together.

Bolt wins 200, Blake sets personal best

The effervescent Bolt performed the air guitar as he was presented to the crowd before predictably dominating the race, winning ahead of Dutchman Churandy Martina and as the top three all finished in under 20 seconds.

Other highlights of the meeting included another win for Grenada's teenage Olympic champion Kirani James in the 400 metres and the high jump where Qatar's Moutaz Essa Barshim leapt 2.39 metres to defeat Olympic champion Ivan Ukhov.

Less impressive was the 110 metres hurdles where Olympic champion Aries Merritt was disqualified for a false start.

Bolt, who has said his main aim was to see out the season without injury, seemed as pleased with his latest stunt as he was with his performance.

It's fun, I heard the music and it just came to me, it was spontaneous, he told BBC television.

His fellow Jamaican Blake, Olympic silver medallist in the 100 and 200 metres, beat his previous best by 0.06 seconds as he destroyed a world-class field in the 100, leaving Tyson Gay and Nesta Carter trailing in his wake.

Blake's performance added to the feeling that the 22-year-old could be the one to eventually topple Bolt, who is four years his senior and beat him over both sprints at the London Games.

Merritt's disqualification devalued what was billed as one of the highlights of the evening in the hurdles.

His fellow American, London silver medallist Jason Richardson, took advantage as he led from the front to win in 13.08 seconds, ahead of David Oliver and Olympic bronze medallist Hansle Parchment who was third.

LAUSANNE - Olympic champion Usain Bolt ran 19.58 seconds for victory in the 200 meters at the Lausanne Diamond League meeting on Thursday (Friday, PHL time) while Yohan Blake equaled the third fastest time ever to win the 100 in 9.69.

TransUnion: Personal Debt Levels Shifting Back to Growth Mode

Posted: August 23, 2012 at 12:15 pm

TORONTO--(Marketwire -08/23/12)- TransUnion's quarterly analysis of Canadian credit trends found that the average consumer's total debt (excluding mortgage) rose modestly, increasing by $192 in Q2 2012 to $26,221. Although this continues the trend of inflationary growth seen in the past five quarters, Q2 2012 is still the highest debt level per person seen to-date. The nation has now experienced consecutive quarters of accelerated growth when comparing both quarter over quarter (0.74%) and year over year (2.41%) numbers, possibly marking yet another turning point in the directionality trend for consumer debt.

"We are in a unique situation because while it is somewhat disconcerting to see average consumer total debt reach its highest level since we've been tracking this variable, Canadian consumers appear to be able to manage this debt as delinquency levels have dropped across all of the major credit vehicles," said Thomas Higgins, TransUnion's vice president of analytics and decision services. "It's quite possible that this is a trend that will continue as consumers take advantage of the low interest environment. However, if there are any sudden economic shifts such as a significant rise in unemployment, then it's quite conceivable that delinquencies will rise with debt levels."

The increase in average debt was consistent throughout Canada. All provinces experienced increases during the quarter except Saskatchewan. On a year-over-year basis, only Alberta posted a decreased annual growth rate in Q2 2012 versus Q2 2011, which constituted the third consecutive quarter where debt levels decreased from the prior year.

Consumer Debt - Quarterly/YearlyDespite year-over-year growth on total consumer debt, directional changes in debt levels varied for several credit instruments.

Consumer Delinquencies - Quarterly/Yearly

Delinquency levels continue to remain low across all major product categories.

"Across the board, we saw delinquencies drop on an annual basis," said Higgins. "Auto loan delinquencies stand out most as they are traditionally among the lowest of the major credit types, yet they've continued a downward trajectory even while auto debt experienced significant increases."

SAN FRANCISCO -- Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) swung to an $8.9 billion quarterly loss as personal computer sales shrank again and it swallowed a huge write-down linked to its $13.9 billion purchase of Electronic Data Systems.

The No.1 personal computer maker, which employs more than 300,000 people globally, is undergoing a multiyear restructuring aimed at focusing the sprawling corporation on enterprise services, in the mold of IBM. The plan calls for reducing its employee base by 8 percent.

HP will have gone through about half of its targeted job reductions by the end of the fiscal year, HP's Chief Financial Officer Cathie Lesjak said in an interview. The Palo Alto company cut 4,000 jobs in fiscal third quarter and will likely have shorn 11,500 jobs by end of fiscal 2012, she said.

"HP is definitely showing progress in terms of turning around the company," said Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu. "One of the clear signs is a better predictability of earnings."

The company was plagued by poor forecasting during former CEO Lo Apotheker's brief tenure.

CEO Meg Whitman has urged investors to be patient as she works to jumpstart revenue and cut costs.

"We are still in the early stage of the turnaround. There will be

The world's largest PC maker posted a 5 percent slide in net revenue in its fiscal third quarter to $29.7 billion, slightly below the average Wall Street estimate of $30.1 billion as compiled by Thomson Reuters.

Everton defender Jagielka proud of personal performance for victory over Man Utd

Everton defender Phil Jagielka was pleased with his performance in victory over Manchester United.

He was individually praised by Sky's analysts for his excellence at centre-half as United's multi-million pound strikeforce was blunted.

Jagielka told evertonfc.com: "We knew it was going to be hard but it was a game we were all up for and all ready for. It was nice to have a goal going into the last 20 minutes to give us something to hang on to and we defended really well.

"It was hard with the amount of people they had popping into holes, but fortunately we had enough people in the right places making blocks and tackles and we managed to keep them out.

"We won't get carried away," he added. "The game was perfect for us with everyone expecting us to lose like we normally do first game of the season, so it was nice to get three points. We have now got a hard game at Villa where hopefully we can get a point or three."

FOSTER CITY, CA--(Marketwire -08/21/12)- Funambol, the leader of white-label personal cloud solutions for mobile providers, today published the results of a global survey of consumers asking about their views on personal cloud storage (PCS) services. The survey asked 42,500 consumers about PCS services and whether they would use a PCS service from mobile operators. Seventy-four percent said they would use a PCS service from their operator. Seventy-seven percent responded that if they used their operator's PCS service, this would make them less likely to switch operators. Seventy-four percent indicated that if they used an operator family cloud, this would make them less likely to change operators. The findings underscore the importance of operators providing a PCS service and how their window of opportunity is limited to deploy a PCS service before others capture their subscribers' content.

The free survey report can be downloaded instantly at http://funambol.com/solutions/library.php with registration. The survey results will be presented during a free webinar entitled "Personal Cloud Crystal Ball: What's Next for Users & the Industry?" on Thursday, August 23 @ 8am PDT / 11am EDT /4pm UK with registration at https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/684115688. "This report provides further proof that operator personal clouds can significantly increase loyalty and reduce churn and that the financial benefits can be enormous. Shea is queen of the mountain once again

GORHAM The most successful women's mountain cyclist in Mount Washington history, Marti Shea, is now the second fastest.

A Manchester native, Shea, 49, now of Marblehead, Mass., turned in a personal best performance of 1:03:14 and won her third consecutive Mount Washington Bicycle Hillclimb here Saturday.

Shea, a standout athlete at Manchester Memorial High School and a former all-America distance runner at Boston University, is also the only women's winner the Newton's Revenge competition, staged here annually in July, has ever known. She now has nine bicycle triumphs over the 7.6-mile Auto Road to the mountain's 6,288-foot summit. Shea's Saturday time was second only to the 58:14 turned in by course record holder Jeannie Longo in 2000.

Times were quick in the men's field as well, as 2012 Revenge winner Cameron Cogburn, 26, of Cambridge, Mass., became the first male to sweep the summer races on the mountain and the second fastest man ever, winning in 52:28.

Tom Danielson, of East Lyme, Conn., is the lone male who has pedaled quicker. His course record of 49:24, set in 2002, is one of three faster times that he has posted.

The race featured seven different cyclists completing the steepest mountain bicycle hillclimb in the world in under one hour.

Leroy Popowski, 37, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was second in 53:47 and Peter Hurst, who started in the second wave, finished third in 54:03.

Race results coolrunning.com.

New Hampshire's top male finisher was 17-year-old Chad Young of Newmarket whose bid to finish under one hour was denied by two seconds. He was eighth.

Weather conditions were ideal as a slight breeze barely stirred the 45 degree summit temperature.
