He is an all-rounder, batting left-handed in the middle order and bowling slow left-arm orthodox. He represented Bangladesh at under-19 level, 18 Youth One Day Internationals between 2005 and 2006. Shakib made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Zimbabwe in August 2006, and his Test debut the following May against India. During a match against New Zealand in 2008, Shakib took the best bowling figures by a Bangladesh player in Tests, 7 wickets for 37 runs. Until then, Shakib had been considered more of a batsman than a bowler, although still an all-rounder. From January 2009 to April 2011 and again from March 2012, Shakib was ranked first amongst ODI all-rounders by the ICC. In December 2011, he became the world #39;s top-ranked Test all-rounder. Shakib was appointed Bangladesh #39;s vice-captain in June 2009 when Mashrafe Mortaza replaced Mohammad Ashraful as captain. During Bangladesh #39;s tour of the West Indies the following month, Mortaza injured himself and Shakib took over the captaincy. He was 22 years old at the time. Initially a temporary position until the recovery of Mortaza, Shakib #39;s success against the West Indies, securing his side #39;s first overseas series win, ensured his retention of captaincy even after Mortaza #39;s recovery. He was named The Wisden Cricketer #39;s "Test Player of the Year" in November ...From:LiveSportsNews365Views:0 0ratingsTime:00:33More inSports

Bradford Networks and Fortinet Partner to Deliver Broad BYOD Security Solutions

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - Oct 29, 2012) - Bradford Networks, the best choice to enable secure network access for corporate issued and personal mobile devices, and Fortinet, a leader in high-performance network security, today announced a strategic partnership. Through this partnership, Fortinet and Bradford Networks offer an integrated scalable and flexible bring-your-own-device (BYOD) security solution that delivers visibility, control and protection from network security threats to corporate-issued and personally owned mobile devices.
"While BYOD is a great enabler for the enterprise, the influx of devices used by employees and other users creates significant security and management challenges. It is critical that organizations have full visibility and management of devices and users on their network," said Patrick Bedwell, vice president of product marketing for Fortinet. "The integration of technology from Fortinet and Bradford Networks provides enterprises with an end-to-end view of network activity, including users and devices, to improve security while increasing productivity -- essential to any successful BYOD strategy."
Fortinet's FortiGate security platform provides a broad array of security and networking functions, including firewall, application control, VPN, antivirus, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam and WAN acceleration, while Bradford Networks' Network Sentry delivers a comprehensive network access control (NAC) solution to enable a secure BYOD strategy. The joint offering proactively correlates network traffic and security data with endpoint device and user information to provide total visibility, control and secure network access for corporate-issued and personally owned mobile devices.
Key benefits and features of the integrated Bradford Networks and Fortinet solution include:
"We expect our partnership with Fortinet to drive greater awareness around the need for organizations to proactively address the security implications introduced with BYOD," said Vincent Ma, VP business development, Bradford Networks. "Fortinet understands the inherent value of striking the right balance between accessibility and security for personal and corporate-owned mobile devices, and we look forward to enabling a scalable and secure BYOD solution for our joint customers."
Bradford Networks is a sponsor of the Fortinet Global Partner Conference 2012 cruise taking place November 5-9, 2012. Partners attending the cruise can visit Bradford Networks' booth throughout the cruise to learn more about the Bradford Networks and Fortinet integrated BYOD solution and how Bradford Networks works with hundreds of partners to ensure safe, secure network access for all brands of wired and wireless devices, across enterprise networks.

Why your boss wants you to take a personal day
Posted: at 12:56 am
(MoneyWatch) Depending on your work environment, your relationship with your boss or your Paid Time Off (PTO) situation, you may be tempted to push through and work when you're sick, burnt out or preoccupied with family problems. But it turns out some bosses may prefer you just go ahead and take that personal day when you really need it. Here's why:
They don't want you to eventually quit
The long-term result of burnout is risking losing valuable employees, and no smart employer wants that. "We know that to retain great people, we need to not only be flexible but encourage our staff to take the time they need out of the office. As Dad always said, 'People are everything' and he couldn't have been more right on," says Ryan MacDonnell, who is co-owner, with her brother Miles, of Round Pond Estate, a winery and olive mill in Rutherford, Calif.
You might spread illness
If you're contagious, nobody -- including your bosses and co-workers -- wants you sharing your germs along with your in-office efforts. "You don't want sick employees infecting co-workers with the flu; sick employees are also never very productive and can often cause more work for others due to errors caused by cold-medicine induced hazy-brain," says Andrea Eldridge, CEO of Nerds on Call, a tech repair company.
You may cause injury
If you work in an office where physical tasks are being done, feeling sick or distracted can not only cause you to be less productive, it could produce a dangerous situation. "If you're in a job where safety is a concern or you're dealing with the public, a distracted employee can be a problem to the client, the organization and possible a danger to themselves," says Nick A. Shepherd, a management consultant and co-author of "Reflective Leaders and High-Performance Organizations."
If you can't work, you can't work
There are some days you just can't be productive, so going in benefits no one. If you're honestly going through a situation that doesn't permit you to get work done, deal with it so you can move on. But be honest with yourself -- if you just hate your job, it might be time to get a new one. "There are some people who make up pseudo illnesses or call in when they are hungover and call it 'food poisoning,' but if someone is truly sick or grieving, they are not going to get much accomplished in the office anyway. As long as someone is on email in case of a work emergency, then home is probably best," says Alison Brod, CEO of Alison Brod Public Relations.

Avon Reports Third-Quarter 2012 Results and Provides Goals for Future Performance
Posted: at 12:56 am
NEW YORK, Nov. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Avon Products, Inc. (AVP) today reported third-quarter 2012 results and provided goals for future performance. "Avon's third-quarter results remain disappointing. The challenges that Avon faces developed over time, not overnight, and it will take time to implement the solutions as well," said Sheri McCoy, Chief Executive Officer. "However, we have identified the first critical actions to return Avon to a position of financial health and improve our competitive position. With a clear focus on growing the top-line, managing costs, and improving our working capital, I am confident that we are moving Avon toward a steady recovery."
Third-Quarter 2012 (compared with third-quarter 2011)
For the third quarter, total revenue of $2.6 billion decreased 8%, or increased 1% in constant dollars. Total units grew 1% and price/mix was flat during the quarter. Active Representatives were down 1%.
Avon Beauty sales declined 9%, or flat in constant dollars. On a reported basis, fragrance was down 7%, color and skincare both declined 11%, and personal care was down 9%. On a constant-dollar basis, fragrance increased 2% while color and skincare declined 1% and 3%, respectively. Personal care was flat.
Third-quarter 2012 gross margin was 61.2%, 270 basis points lower than the prior-year quarter, due to the net unfavorable impact of product mix and pricing, higher supply chain costs primarily due to costs associated with obsolescence as well as the negative impact from foreign exchange.
Operating profit was $106 million in the quarter and operating margin was 4.2%. Adjusted Non-GAAP operating profit was $152 million and adjusted Non-GAAP operating margin was 5.9%, down 440 basis points from the third quarter of 2011. The decline was due to lower gross margin and increases in overhead costs, primarily due to higher employee compensation costs. The negative impact of foreign exchange was also a factor. This was offset by an $18 million decline in advertising, down 24% to $58 million.
Based on the continued decline in revenue performance in China and corresponding lowering of our long-term growth estimates, we completed an interim impairment assessment of the fair value of goodwill related to the business, which resulted in a Q3 non-cash impairment charge of $44 million, or $0.10 per share.
Third-quarter 2012's effective tax rate was 58.2%, versus 31.5% in the third quarter of 2011. The tax rate was unfavorably impacted by 21.0 points from the goodwill impairment charge related to our operations in China, for which no tax benefit was recorded. On an adjusted Non-GAAP basis, the effective tax rate was 37.2%, versus 31.5% in the third-quarter 2011, due primarily to lower benefits from audit settlements and statute expirations.
Income from continuing operations in the third quarter of 2012 was $33 million, or $0.07 per diluted share. Adjusted Non-GAAP income from continuing operations was $78 million, or $0.17 per diluted share.
Net cash provided by operating activities was $220 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2012, compared with $247 million in the same period of 2011, as lower net income was partially offset by improvements in working capital, lower contributions to the U.S. pension plan, and a payment in 2011 associated with a long-term incentive compensation plan of $36 million. The overall net cash used in the nine months ended September 30, 2012 was $148 million, compared with a use of $192 million for the same period in 2011, primarily due to lower capital expenditures.

Children Services’ chief gets a raise

By Rita Price
The Columbus Dispatch Thursday November 1, 2012 6:00 AM
The Franklin County Children Services board gave its executive director a 3 percent pay raise yesterday and adopted a merit-pay policy to guide increases for the agencys other nonunion employees.
Starting in 2014, raises for those 250 staff members are to be tied for the first time to both personal and agency performance. About 500 other Children Services employees, including caseworkers, are among staff members covered by collective bargaining.
Its all about outcomes for kids, Executive Director Chip Spinning said. If were doing well as an agency, then kids are doing well. This will help us all row in the same direction.
For 2013, non-bargaining staff members, who include managers and administrators, are to receive a 1 percent pay raise in February. For 2014, employees would receive the 1 percent raise if they dont have any disciplinary action, complete required training and are timely with annual performance evaluations.
Additional increases from0.25 to 1 percent are to be based on how well the agency is faring on seven goals the federal government outlines for child-welfare agencies.
Some trustees, however, said they think the initial setup will keep raises too low. The federal standards are tough to meet.I dont agree with 1 percent, Trustee Shadya Yazback said.
Officials said the plan for the next two years is a start and that ranges can be reviewed and changed later.
It takes that unknown out for next year, Trustee Charles Perotti said. I think that the intent is absolutely wonderful, and we can tweak it as we see fit.

Personal records soften girls cross country loss to Nighthawks

By Joe Naiman
Ramona High Schools girls cross country varsity team lost its first dual meet of the season on Oct. 26 against Del Norte at Dos Picos Park, but several Ramona girls set personal records in the process.
The PRs (personal records) were great, said coach Kim Toth.
Del Norte put the first through fifth runners across the finish line in the Nighthawks 15-40 victory, although the Bulldogs had the next five finishers. Ramonas top five runners had a 26-second split.
As far as that goes Im real happy with it, Toth said.
Anna Mazzola finished sixth with a time of 18:18 on the 2.75-mile course. Ciara Lucas seventh-place time of 18:25 was a personal record by 1:20. Arianna Ruland set a 20-second personal record with her 18:37 performance. Francheska Gonzalez finished in 18:38. Delaney Toths time of 18:44 gave her a personal record by 2:15, as well as 10th place.
It was a disappointing loss for the varsity, Kim Toth said.
Ramonas varsity fell to 2-1 for the season, but the junior varsitys 26-29 victory gave the JV a 3-0 record. Angelina Gray won the race with a time of 19:36, which was a personal record by 2:04. Elizabeth Schweizer had a fourth-place time of 19:55. Chloe Knowds time of 20:00 gave her fifth place and a personal record by 1:38. Kim Klarer finished seventh at 21:21, and Holly Trouts time of 22:45 was worth ninth place.
The Bulldogs conclude the regular season Thursday, Nov. 1, at Guajome Park with a tri-meet against Oceanside and Valley Center.

Navy SEALS and Secret Service Trainer Offers Personal Training Programs
Posted: at 12:56 am
Navy SEALS and Secret Service trainer Harinder Singh, through Warriors Way Lifestyle, launches personal training programs for individuals. The Personal Protection Program and Personal Transformation Programs offer civilians and non-martial artists access to the power and transformational methodology of elite operators.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 31, 2012
The Personal Protection Program focuses specifically on training civilians in the scientifically designed and effective fighting systems taught to elite military operators, designed and taught concisely over two days similar to how they receive the training. The Personal Transformation Program is a comprehensive lifestyle management program implemented over 1-6 months and is designed to produce results in all areas of life.
After training SEALS, Special Forces, and other operators whose lives depend on their performance, Ive seen what works and what doesnt and absorbed their experiences. I think its time that civilians have access to these same levels of safety, performance and possibility, said Singh. The Personal Protection Program is taught over a weekend, with Warriors Way coming on site to set up. Participants learn the Navy SEAL fighting system, how to fight and win in multiple situations (standing up, on the ground, one attacker, multiple attackers, empty hands, and with blunt and edged weapons), disarming weapons, and situational awareness. Its designed to leave the non-martial artist with confidence knowing that they can protect themselves in these situations, and is ideal for business travelers and students abroad.
The Personal Transformation Program is designed for the individual whose life demands performance. Comparatively comprehensive, it includes a needs assessment as well as the development and implementation of a six-month plan for lifestyle management and transformation including diet, nutrition, habits, exercise, wellness, performance, sleep, relationships, quieting the mind, and other facets. Throughout these six months, Singh comes to the individual on site twice a week, sets up their training environment, and gives them personal coaching and attention on all aspects of their life. The program includes everything in the Personal Protection Program. It also includes Singhs patented functional fitness system, Action Strength, which is a hybrid of ancient bodyweight exercises used by Bruce Lee, kettlebells, Tai-Chi, and scientifically designed movements. More importantly however, says Singh, through personal coaching the program applies and instills strategy into the participants life, and with the same precision that has saved lives on the battlefield, gives individuals a way of achieving any goal they desire around their personal life, through providing access to courage, confidence, strength, and strategy. The effectiveness of participants success is insured by a 100% refund guarantee by Warrior's Way, offering the peace of mind to try it on risk-free and get the results that, in Singhs words, are only possible from a program that is this individually customized, comprehensive, and personal to the individual whose life demands performance.
