It was only a matter of time before the Rams reached double digits in personal records ... in one meet. Despite Saturdays poor weather conditions at the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Invitational at the Wrentham Development Center, the Rams set 10 personal bests on the 5K course, an accomplishment that Marshfield Head Coach Ed Ryan called, fantastic.

In the varsity race, Kate Spitler, Sarah Nicoll, Bri Doherty, Elizabeth Vincent, and Stephani Lacasse set personal records, while Alex Rodriguez, Tori Barrows, Nicole Olson, Jessica Merritt, and Meg Birkmeyer did so in the junior varsity race.

In the jayvee race, Rodriguez had the highest finish for Marshfield, coming in 46th place, running a time of 23 minutes, 49 seconds in the 5K race.

In the freshman race, Cecilia White finished 15th, medaled, and ran 12:58 on the 1.9-mile freshmen course.

Spitler ran a 20:59, finishing 57th, in the varsity race. Nicoll clocked a 21.02, placing 58th, while Doherty registered a time of 21.45 and finished 90th.

The Rams were scheduled to race Atlantic Coast League foe Plymouth South Tuesday afternoon. Their race against Plymouth North last week was postponed. No makeup date had been set as of press time.

MCCI Introduces First Platform for USB 3.0 Development

Posted: at 10:22 pm

without comments

ITHACA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Stacks are no longer enough for reliable, extensible development and deployment of USB 3.0 according to MCCI Corporation, a leading developer of USB drivers and firmware for the high-volume personal computer and portable device markets. USB 3.0, now in Microsoft Windows 8 and Apple OS X Mountain Lion, is being used for a growing set of connectivity applications that require a new approach for USB host and device manufacturers to implement support to ensure the optimum consumer experience and predictable time to market. To address this issue, MCCI is now delivering a complete platform for USB 3.0, TrueTask USB, which will deliver ROI savings as well as high reliability.

There is a revolution in connectivity coalescing around USB 3.0 today, with over ten billion USB devices shipped, and hundreds of thousands of different kinds of devices. USB 3.0 is being used by product manufacturers for a variety of connectivity applications, from chargers to storage, said Terry Moore, CEO, MCCI. Creating USB host software is not easy and is risky because of testing and requirements to be compatible with the huge variety of devices. The TrueTask USB platform is pre-tested and pre-verified. With the MCCI platform, we let manufacturers focus on enhancing their products so that they dont have to worry about USB connectivity.

TrueTask USB is a complete solution that includes USB 3.0 / USB 2.0 host and device support. It is highly portable, fast, efficient, and designed to support a variety of hardware. MCCIs USB 3.0 host software has been tested with tens of thousands of different devices and shipped with over 20 million PCs. In addition to licensing the software, MCCI offers design consultation, integration and customization services. MCCI, one of only nine certified USB-IF test houses worldwide, also offers extensive testing and verification services for USB developers.

At VDC, weve seen a direct relationship for success in markets when companies offer end-to-end solutions that include software, as well as services and expertise, said Jared Weiner, Analyst, Embedded Software & Tools Practice, VDC Research. MCCIs integrated platform approach and test services will help improve manufacturers ability to meet the markets increasing demand for USB connectivity.

Platforms go beyond simple stacks to provide APIs that are stable across releases and variations in hardware and operating system. Only a true platform allows the investment in USB development to be reused across changes in CPUs, operating systems, and host or device controller silicon. Because MCCIs TrueTask USB is portable to any embedded system without source code changes, it saves considerable time and thus costs for manufacturers. Unlike simple stacks where you have to re-code for each product and each update, TrueTask USB enables manufacturers to leverage their investments for quicker time to market and profit across all future products, and across multiple current products.

ROI/cost of development data derived from detailed and extensive surveys of embedded developers has shown year-over-year that the use of commercial software, as compared with free or open-source software, results in a lower total cost of development, shorter time to market and better design outcomes, said Dr. Jerry Krasner, Vice President and Chief Analyst, Embedded Market Forecasters. In a market where device manufacturers have a short window to launch new tablets, smartphones, and other portable devices, buying commercial software from a company that knows how to implement USB connectivity makes good business sense.

MCCIs TrueTask USB is available now to select, tier-one customers in automotive, consumer electronics, and printer industries, and will be generally available by the end of Q4 2012. Prices start at $50,000 for a single-project development platform.

Variants are available for a variety of embedded platforms, including Linux, MQX, Nucleus, micro-ITRON, Windows Embedded, Windows Compact Embedded, and non-OS/pre-boot environments.

Much to do to keep data private

While the Government gets set to enforce the Personal Data Protection Act, all involved should comply with the provisions of the Act now instead of adopting a wait and see' attitude.

SINGAPORE recently had the first reading of its Personal Data Protection Act in Parliament. Many in the republic were buoyed by the development, confident that the passing of the bill should be just around the corner.

Surprisingly, Singapore lags behind Malaysia in this matter; Malaysia is the first country in the South-East Asian region to draft such a bill way back in 2000. Our Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) was gazetted in 2010 after gestating through several public consultations and revisions.

Long overdue

However, now that the sunrise period before the law takes effect for the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry to train personnel and put procedures in place is fast fading, many are asking when our law will be enforced. Especially since it appears that the Ministry has just missed the deadline.

In February, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim had announced that the Act would be enforced by the middle of this year.

We are now in the second half of the year and there has been no news of the impending implementation of the PDPA. When contacted, all that ministry sources would say is that enforcement details would be announced as early as next month.

Universiti Malaya's data protection law expert Prof Abu Bakar Munir says it is imperative that the Act is enforced soon as all our personal information is fast flowing out there, making its security a big concern.

With petabytes of data transferred and stored on a daily basis, personal data is the new oil of the Internet and the new currency of the digital world. That is why people are concerned about privacy, especially when they transact online, he said at a recent media forum on the PDPA's enforcement hosted by security firm Symantec.

Due to the growth of the social media network and mobile devices, users around the world send around 47 billion (non-spam) email and 95 million tweets daily. Each month, users share about 30 billion pieces of contents on Facebook.

Grab chance for personal development, teachers urged

Posted: at 6:12 am

PARENTS and teachers are thrilled that the Government will be spending RM38.7bil to improve the quality of education.

National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) secretary- general Lok Yim Pheng said not many countries could afford to invest as much as 21% of total spending in education.

The extra RM500mil to train teachers in core subjects through the Higher Order Thinking Skills approach is no small sum either, she said, adding that continuous professional development was synonymous with the quality of teachers and education.

Teachers have to grab this opportunity and see it as a means of personal development, she said, adding that NUTP had been pushing for training to be monitored.

On Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razaks statement that investments in education were not producing comparable returns, Lok said: Education is a long-term investment. Whatever you spend in education will produce yields eventually.

Sarawak Teachers Union president Willian Ghani Bina said although it would take time, education was key to the nations success, describing the RM500mil to train teachers as necessary and timely.

Parent Action Group for Education (PAGE) chairman Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim said if the Government had wanted to emphasise on research and development with large allocations for research universities, then Malaysians have to prepare their children by teaching them Science and Mathematics in English.

If youre serious about going into high-tech industries, then youll need English, she said.

Proton Edar corporate sales head Roslan Mohamed said as Malaysia reached the status of developed nation, it needed to emphasise on education.

Giving RM500mil for teachers development is a good start, said the father of four.

Fashion and Beauty Industry Come Together to Honor L’Oreal USA’s Carol Hamilton and Hearst Magazines’ Michael Clinton …

Posted: September 27, 2012 at 6:11 pm

without comments

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The American Cancer Society and The Personal Care Products Council Foundation announced today the honorees for the 28th annual DreamBall: Carol Hamilton president, LOral Luxe, and Michael Clinton, president, marketing & publishing director for Hearst Magazines, will be honored tonight at Cipriani, 42nd Street, in New York City. The DreamBall Gala benefits the Look Good Feel Better program, a collaboration of the Personal Care Products Council Foundation (PCPCF), the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Professional Beauty Association (PBA). For more than 20 years, DreamBall has been the primary source of funding for Look Good Feel Better, the only free, nationwide program dedicated to boosting cancer patients self-esteem and confidence through lessons on coping with appearance-related side effects of the disease.

Award winning news anchor Sade Baderinwa of WABC-TV New York will host the event. The DreamBall honorees, Ms. Hamilton and Mr. Clinton, will be presented by Joanna Coles, the newly named editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, and actress/model Milla Jovovich with Dr. Peter Dottino of Mt. Sinai Hospital, respectively.

Carol Hamilton is one of the beauty industrys most respected executives. During her 28-year career with LOral USA, she has been integral to its growth in the United States and also is widely recognized for her contributions to its international development. Ms. Hamilton was chosen as a 2012 DreamBall honoree in recognition for her dedication to cancer research and outreach, particularly in the area of ovarian cancer. She is the recipient of the Oliver R. Grace Award for Distinguished Service in Advancing Cancer Research by the Cancer Research Institute and is a member of the Board of Governors for The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

For almost 30 years I have been dedicated to helping women look and feel their best, said Hamilton. I was humbled and inspired by the courage and sweetness of the women I met at my first Look Good Feel Better workshop. The simple pleasure of being normal for two hours, combined with the impact of being able to reverse the toll of cancer through beauty routines, is an honor everyone of us in the beauty industry should be a part of.

A long-term supporter of Look Good Feel Better and its mission, Michael Clinton oversees the publication of some of the worlds largest magazine brands, including Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Esquire, Harpers BAZAAR, Marie Claire, O, The Oprah Magazine, Good Housekeeping and Food Network Magazine. In addition, he is the chairman of the MPA Association of Magazine Media. Under Clintons leadership, Hearst Magazines has helped raise awareness for Look Good Feel Better for nearly two decades. Mr. Clinton experienced first-hand the dramatic impact cancer has on a persons life when his executive assistant of 26 years was diagnosed with breast cancer and completed treatment.

"Cancer knows no bounds and certainly doesnt discriminate, said Clinton. Watching my friend and colleague journey through diagnosis, treatment and recovery brought this disease, and all its side effects, very close to home for me. The Look Good Feel Better program showed me the positive power of beauty for women undergoing treatment. Fran inspired me with her courage, her strength, and her sense of purpose. I am proud to share this honor with her and her family.

For the first time, the DreamBall will celebrate two cancer survivors with tributes to Tim Quinn, a testicular cancer survivor, celebrity makeup artist and National Creative Director for Giorgio Armani Beauty, and a longtime colleague of Ms. Hamilton; and breast cancer survivor Fran Crane, Mr. Clintons long-serving executive assistant. Both Mr. Quinn and Ms. Crane will share their stories at the DreamBall of overcoming cancer and its physical and emotional side-effects, as well as their perspective on how Look Good Feel Better helps people with cancer regain control, self-confidence and hope during treatment.

This years DreamBall to benefit the Look Good Feel Better program really is an industry family affair, said Pamela Baxter, DreamBall event chairman, president & CEO of LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics, North America, and president of Christian Dior, Inc. Tim and Fran are so close personally and professionally to Carol and Michael, and their stories echo many of the consistent themes of the Look Good Feel Better program -- from taking control, to the impact of treatment on relationships at both work and home. These close ties will make this years event especially meaningful, inspirational and universal. We all know someone who can benefit from Look Good Feel Better.

The DreamBall will be immediately followed by DreamBall After Dark, a special reception aimed at engaging the next generation of philanthropic leaders within and beyond the beauty industry to get them involved in the Look Good Feel Better program. Guests will enjoy cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction and music by international DJ Harley Viera Newtown. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or in advance at http://www.thedreamball.org,and all proceeds benefit the Look Good Feel Better Program and the American Cancer Society.

Law of Attraction Teacher John Assaraf Reveals Visualization Secrets in Exclusive Interview

San Diego, Ca (PRWEB) September 22, 2012

Law of Attraction guru Natalie Ledwell of Mind Movies publishes exclusive home interview with famous personal development and Law of Attraction teacher John Assaraf.

In this video, John Assaraf finally opens up about his past and shares how he got into trouble with the law when he was very young. He explains how his realization that illegal activities were never going to bring him success led him to change his mindset in order to enact real change in his life.

According to John Assaraf, "The first years of my life were just like any other kid in a normal family. When I was in my early teens, 13 to 18, I got in a lot of trouble with the law... I did a lot of illegal things and I thought that was the way I was going to be successful.. Yet I knew it wasn't gonna be an easy road. Fortunately for me, when I was 19, I had a really good turning point where we almost got in a whole lot of trouble with the law. And I realized at that moment that if I was going to continue on this path, that I would be going to jail or I'd die; one of the two. And those really weren't good options for me. I had a wakeup call.... Finally! Somebody inside my head hit it hard and said STOP. And I stopped doing what I was doing and I found a mentor."

After his success in the hit film The Secret, John Assaraf says he continues to use the power of the Law of Attraction to make changes in his life, and shares his unique daily success routine. John Assaraf also mentions his "Secret of 3s" for achieving your weight loss, relationship, and financial goals - information that has never before been revealed publicly.

Ledwell was excited to have John Assaraf on her online show, The Inspiration Show. She said, "It's great to hear from such a guru in the personal development industry. No one knows the Law of Attraction like John Assaraf."

Over 1 million people worldwide have already received Ledwells free pre-made Mind Movies, which are dynamic moving video vision boards that help viewers visualize and achieve their desires and goals faster and easier than they ever thought possible.
