Privacy breach debate gets personal

A snap debate on privacy breaches at the Ministry of Social Development's got very personal.

The department's Minister, Paula Bennett, described security flaws at WINZ information kiosks as unacceptable and mortifying and has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

She's been under attack by opposition parties for the failure that's happened on her watch.

Paula Bennett's hit back at her critics and has taken particular exception to heckling from Labour MP Lianne Dalziel and calls for her to resign.

"Should we talk about who should give their resignation? When that member had to when she had to when she lied in unison, which is the actual reality of it. So, I suppose she's personally experienced of what that means to lie, but I have not."

The Greens are suggesting the Social Development Minister's crying crocodile tears over privacy breaches committed by her ministry.

Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei is challenging Ms Bennett's claims of concern about the mistake, given the case where the Minister released details about beneficiaries.

"This is a Minister who is leading the privacy breaches in her own ministry. She has set the standard for the Ministry of Social Development to not care, and to have no respect for the people whose information is kept."

And Paula Bennett's playing down allegations it was her office that revealed the name of the person who found the WINZ privacy breach.

Ira Bailey's been named as the person who brought the issue to media attention - it's alleged Paula Bennett's office leaked his name to media, given a staffer looked at his Linkedin profile.

Customers can then watch their completed Mind Movie on their computer or laptop, or download it to their iPhone or mobile device to take it with them wherever they go and watch it whenever they like.

Mind Movies 3.0 was developed to support customers in realizing their dreams based on the principles of the Law of Attraction, a Universal law made popular by the best-selling book and hit film, The Secret, which states that like energy attracts like energy.

After they create their own personalized Mind Movie, we recommend that our customers watch their video vision board for three minutes every morning and three minutes every evening, said Ledwell. /Personal Remittances Sustain Growth Momentum; January-August 2012 Level Reaches US$15.3 Billion

Posted: at 5:22 pm

10.15.2012

Personal remittances from overseas Filipinos (OFs) continued to rise in August 2012, posting a growth of 7.9 percent from the year-ago level to reach US$2 billion, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Officer-in-Charge Juan D. De Zuiga, Jr. announced today.1This favorable development brought the cumulative personal remittances during the first eight months of the year to US$15.3 billion, higher by 5.6 percent compared to the level registered in the same period last year. Growth in remittances was sustained by higher personal transfers from land-based OF workers (OFWs) with work contracts of one year or more (by 3.3 percent), as well as sea-based workers and land-based workers with short-term contracts (by 13.3 percent).

Cash remittances from OFs coursed through banks likewise expanded by 5.5 percent to reach US$13.7 billion for the first eight months of 2012 relative to the level registered in the comparable period last year. The steady influx of remittances was observed from both sea-based (US$3.2 billion) and land-based workers (US$10.5 billion). Key sources of remittances were the U.S. (43.1 percent of total cash remittances), Canada (9.5 percent), Saudi Arabia (7.7 percent), the United Kingdom (4.9 percent), Japan (4.9 percent), the United Arab Emirates (4.2 percent), and Singapore (4 percent).

Preliminary reports by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) indicated continued demand for skilled Filipino workers. For the period January-September 2012, a total of 231,316 job orders mostly for service, production, and professional, technical and related workers were processed in response to the manpower requirements in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and Taiwan. The POEA also reported that workers with processed contracts and those awaiting deployment reached 1,081,513 for the first semester of 2012. However, this was lower by about 35 percent than the level recorded in the same period last year. Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported last month that the Philippines ratified the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006, dubbed as the Seafarers International Bill of Rights and the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention No. 189 or the Decent Work for Domestic Workers Convention. These measures should provide better work opportunities abroad through strengthened protection for OFs.

With expectations of sustained demand for skilled Filipino workers overseas, remittances are projected to continue to boost economic activity and provide a steady supply of foreign exchange. Moreover, the increasing use of financial channels for transfers and the continued introduction of innovations in remittance products are expected to contribute to the steady flow of remittances into the country.

---------------

1The BSP started the release of data on personal remittances in June 2012. As defined in the Balance of Payments Manual, 6th Edition (BPM6), personal remittances represent the sum of net compensation of employees (i.e., gross earnings of overseas Filipino (OF) workers with work contracts of less than one year, including all sea-based workers, less taxes, social contributions, and transportation and travel expenditures in their host countries), personal transfers (i.e., all current transfers in cash or in kind by OF workers with work contracts of one year or more as well as other household-to-household transfers between Filipinos who have migrated abroad and their families in the Philippines), and capital transfers between households (i.e., transfers of fixed assets and financial assets that arise from the migration of individuals from one economy to another).

Overcoming Limiting Beliefs Clears Invisible Mental Barriers to Personal Development Success Claims Law of Attraction …

Mind Movies Co-Founder Natalie Ledwell releases exclusive video on YouTube revealing how understanding and overcoming one's limiting beliefs are crucial to long-term success and personal development.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 14, 2012

YouTube Training Video: http://youtu.be/Z51lzl1TI3M

Natalie Ledwell reveals in this video how anyone can overcome a limiting belief for good, which she believes is crucial for long-term success.

According to Ledwell, "Often, we're not even aware that a limiting belief exists, and may blame events, people, or luck for our lack of success. Yet if we only let go of these limiting beliefs, the success would naturally come to us. In many ways, a limiting belief is like resistance that makes it harder to take the steps towards your goals and life dreams."

No longer just for fans of the movie The Secret, many tactics from Law of Attraction teachers like Ledwell are gaining widespread acceptance in the personal development world. Many famous celebrities, from Will Smith, to Oprah, to Michael Phelps use Law of Attraction principles such as creative visualization to help them achieve their goals and stay on track.

Ledwell explains, "People are using Law of Attraction principles to achieve all kinds of goals, whether those goals have to do with health, money, relationships, romance, even weight loss!"

Ledwell herself was able to drop several clothing sizes by using the principles outlined in this video to overcome limiting beliefs that were keeping her overweight.

"By taking the power of digital vision boards like Mind Movies, which dramatically increases the power of creative visualization, and combining that with the tactic of overcoming limiting beliefs, I was able to drop several sizes just in time for my birthday!"

Over 1 million people worldwide have already received Ledwells free pre-made Mind Movies, which are dynamic moving video vision boards that help viewers visualize and achieve their desires and goals faster and easier than they ever thought possible.

Adventure WV fosters inclusiveness

Adventure WV is a program that provides students with experiential education, leadership experience and personal development through travel programs.

For Adventure WV Program Manager Marcedes Minana, the program provides college students with something priceless.

"We foster belongingness, and that is huge," she said. "We really are a family."

Originally a freshman orientation program, Adventure WV since expanded and now offers everything from week-long local trips to month-long study-abroad programs.

Incoming freshmen have the opportunity to take an orientation trip: a week-long camping excursion throughout West Virginia. The trip is linked with a course, and major-specific trips are offered for students in the School of Journalism and the College of Business and Economics.

But according to Minana, these trips arent just about traveling they help students grow.

"Its about learning about the University, learning about this state, because this is your home," she said. "This is your back yard."

Minana said sometimes, incoming freshmen have no friends or mentors at WVU.

"For most incoming students, one of the biggest concerns coming into college is am I going to make friends? Am I going to fit in?" she said.

The Orientation Trips bring these students together and help them connect, Minana said.

Students programme set to welcome second batch

Staff Reporter / 12 October 2012

The Hamdan bin Mohammed Students Personal Development Programme, launched in September 2011 under the patronage and directives of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, has begun arrangements for receiving the second batch of students.

The programme held a familiarisation meeting attended by delegations from the government and private schools in Dubai and parents of the students who took admission in the programme. The meeting provided a general idea about the programme, and discussed its objectives and stages of execution.

It also reviewed the achievements made by the first batch by eliciting the views and opinions of the students, schools and parents.

A large section of the attendees pointed out that the programme has helped the students in determining their professional career, and has had a positive impact on their academic performance.

The team tasked with the programme, which comprises the Secretariat General of the Dubai Executive Council, Department of Human Resources, Dubai Government, Knowledge and Human Resources Development Authority and Dubai Educational Zone, are currently working on completing all the arrangements for receiving the second batch of students.

The preparations include naming the schools and students, and conducting awareness seminars for schools and for the voluntary graduates of the Mohammed bin Rashid Programme for Leadership Development to encourage them to voluntarily participate in training the students on future professional planning. The programme will also follow up with the schools whose students were part of the first batch, and who will comply with the requirements of the programme for the next two years.

We are keen on creating a supportive environment to assist students so that they can benefit from the programme, said Abdulla Al Shaibani, Secretary-General of the Dubai Executive Council.

He said: We cooperate with all our partners in government and public sectors as well as schools to achieve the cherished objectives which serve to develop the education sector in Dubai, and are working to welcome the second batch of students. The programme reflects the interest and keenness of Shaikh Hamdan in supporting the students of our country.
