Sakara Life Review 2023: Is It Worth the Cost? – Good Housekeeping

Posted: at 12:12 am

without comments

Founded in 2012 by childhood friends Danielle Duboise and Whitney Tingle, Sakara Life is a unique meal delivery service that focuses on wellness and nutritionally balanced meals. The service has grown in popularity and expanded rapidly in recent years thanks to its convenience of providing ready-made nutritious meals directly to your door. But the organic meal delivery service comes at a high price point. We tested a variety of Sakara Life's programs to thoroughly evaluate the offerings and determine if it's worth the price. Read on for our full review of the Sakara Life service, including the new Sakara Systems programs.

Sakara Life

Sakara Life

Sakara Life is a wellness-based organic meal delivery service that focuses on whole foods and plant-forward eating. The service sources high-quality fresh ingredients and aims to create nutrient-dense meals, all prepared by classically trained chefs and delivered ready-to-eat to your doorstep. All meals are 100% plant-based free from dairy, meat and seafood but the service does occasionally use honey and bee pollen. Although the meals are made without gluten, Sakara Life does not recommend their program for individuals with severe allergies due to the potential for cross-contamination from their suppliers.

By creating nutritious meals packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber, Sakara Life aims to help balance, restore and heal the body so you can look and feel your absolute best, according to its website. Sakara Life bases its meals on nine pillars of nutrition, which include:

More From Good Housekeeping

Unlike other meal delivery services where you can select your meals or recipes, Sakara Life offers a variety of plans with pre-set menus ranging in length from two days to 60 days. The service has five targeted nutrition programs, which include its signature nutrition program and its new Sakara Systems. This new program is an extension of Sakara Life's offerings, providing more options for a personalized experience based on your individual health and wellness goals. Sakara Systems was created alongside a team of experts known as The Sakara Science Council which includes a panel of doctors and a registered dietitian. Every program offers a variety of support materials including booklets, supplements and more as well as access to Sakara Life's team of health coaches.

Sakaras Performance System

Name: Stefani Sassos, M.S., R.D.N.

Role: Deputy Nutrition Director, Good Housekeeping Institute

Why you should trust me: In addition to being a registered dietitian, I'm a working mother and wife with a busy schedule. I'm constantly looking for time-saving solutions to eat a healthy, balanced diet and take care of my body. As the primary expert tester on this Sakara Life evaluation, I tested both the Signature Nutrition Program for five days and the Metabolism Reset Sakara System for four weeks. Not only does this review include my personal experience with the brand, but we also had five separate testers across the nation evaluate the service for even more real-life feedback.

Both I and our other testers found the ordering process to be simple and straightforward. You can compare the different programs on Sakara Life's website to determine the right fit for you. You also have the option to choose breakfasts, lunches and/or dinners so you can target which meals you tend to have the most difficulty preparing, which really came in handy.

The Signature Nutrition Program is great as an introduction to Sakara Life and gives you a nice overview of the service as a whole. The Sakara Systems definitely feel a bit more personalized, especially if you have a particular health or wellness goal that you are working towards. It was nice knowing that there was a panel of experts, including a registered dietitian, that developed the systems and that each system itself is backed by scientific research.

Some of the claims do feel a bit elaborate to draw you in, and good nutrition is an important part of the health equation but it is just one component. You'll want to make sure you're staying hydrated, exercising, getting adequate sleep and taking care of your emotional and mental health in order to complement the healthy foods the service sends you. One drawback is that the meals are pre-set, so you can't pick and choose dishes that you would prefer. While you can't select the meals that are part of your plan, you can get a sneak peek at the menu every week on the website. The cost is definitely more expensive than other services out there, but you are ultimately paying for convenience and best-in-class organic ingredients. It's also important to note that everything is designed only for one person, so if you're looking to feed a large family then this service isn't ideal for you.

Most testers had a positive experience in terms of delivery and shipping. My meals and products were all delivered neatly and came in sturdy containers that sometimes included little shelves inside them to keep certain ingredients separated so they didn't become soggy. There was also an insulated bag provided in the first box which made it easy to transport the food to work. I also liked that you could eat the food right out of the container if you were on the go.

Meals were delivered at appropriately cold temperatures and the ice packs were easy to recycle. "Everything arrived cold and stayed fresh the duration of the time that it was supposed to," a tester noted. "The delivery was well organized and the meals were fresh, flavorful and satisfying," another said.

Stefanis Sakara Systems Box Upon Arrival

One tester in New Jersey did note that her delivery box may have been tossed around in transit so the containers were thrown within the box, but she said that the food was still fresh and tasty. "Their packaging is very durable. Packaging wasn't punctured or smushed during the crazy travel," she added.

Even though the meals are plant-based, the testers and I found them balanced and satisfying. Some meals are more hearty than others, but every dish was incredibly tasty and included diverse flavor profiles. I shared the tacos with my husband who is a big carnivore and he was shocked to find out that they were jackfruit and not pulled meat. "I already have dietary restrictions and know how complex and often unsatisfying dairy-free and gluten-free eating can be, but I felt that all of those substitutions didn't take away from the meals," one tester said.

Even the four-week Sakara Systems menu felt varied. I was worried that the meals would get repetitive, but each week was unique and included diverse dishes. Salads are definitely a staple of the programs, but you'll also receive chilis, stews, grain and noodle bowls, flatbreads, quesadillas and more. My system even included healthier takes on favorites like cornbread, pancakes and plant-based grilled cheese which were all a pleasant surprise.

Testing Sakara Systems Program

The convenience of having everything prepared was not only practical but also significantly reduced my stress level for the week. After working a full day and then coming home to take care of the baby and put her down to sleep, I didn't have to worry about preparing dinner since it was already in the fridge and ready to eat. I actually really looked forward to the meals since they were very original and packed with flavor.

I also physically felt good and strong during and after the four weeks, and it was interesting to have a break from meat-based meals and products while still feeling satiated and energetic. In my personal experience, I also saw an improvement in my skin health but don't think that the meals are necessarily a miracle cure. You'd likely find the same benefits by eating whole plant-based foods on your own, though without the convenience and meal creativity that the service offers. Certain items, like the $40 Beauty Water Drops won't magically transform your appearance, but the ingredients can certainly support overall health. "As someone who cooks nonstop, I was impressed with the combinations and creative ingredients," one tester said. "It was super easy as nothing required cooking. The meals were restaurant quality, delicious, healthy and satisfying," another noted.

Sakara Life offers a variety of supplements, snacks, teas and more to support each program. We tested the bars and granola which were both filling and tasty, as well as The Foundation supplement and a few other items. The supplement and extras vary based on the plan you choose, but according to Sakara Life's website, the supplements go through seven rounds of third-party testing for purity and potency and are manufactured at a facility that is FDA-regulated and cGMP and NSF certified.

The Foundation is Sakara Life's daily supplement pack and is a well-rounded addition to a few of the existing programs. The pack includes their food-based multivitamin, a calcium and magnesium supplement, plant-based omega-3 supplement, a blend of B vitamins and adaptogens, as well as a probiotic supplement. Sakara Life says that The Foundation has gone through seven rounds of testing (identification, physical, chemical, microbiological, gluten/allergen, pesticide/herbicide and stability) and adds that all raw materials have been tested to ensure they are authentic and free of any contaminants like pesticides and heavy metals and all finished supplements have been tested for purity and potency.

The informational booklets were also useful and provided some background on the meals and why they were specifically designed for the particular program. Every meal has an ingredient or ingredients spotlighted for their potential health benefits. "I appreciated the information provided on the highlighted ingredient," one tester said. The booklet in the Sakara Systems box was very comprehensive and featured information on the science behind the program, as well as tips, recipes, motivational guidance and more.

Customer service is available Monday through Friday from 9 am - 6 pm EST. We reached out to them with several questions and received thorough responses the same day. When reaching out after business hours, someone got back to us the next day. They also have a detailed FAQ page and can be contacted via phone or email.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the different plans that Sakara Life offers. Pricing ranges based on the number of days and meals you select as well as your location.

The service delivers its meals to all cities within the contiguous United States, and Sakara Life delivers all products to all 50 United States. You can view program options for your specific region here. Most orders are received between 4 and 10 business days after you place your order.

Meals arrive at your doorstep full-prepared and ready to eat. Since the ingredients are fresh and high-quality, the food should be eaten within a few days. Many meals can be eaten raw, but heating instructions are available for some meals as well. All dishes are labeled with a "Best By" date on the container.

All Sakara Life packaging is made with post-consumer recycled materials and is 100% recyclable. Delivery boxes are insulated and include ice packs that keep the food at appropriate temperatures throughout delivery. You can recycle the ice packs with #4 plastics after cutting the plastic film and pouring the gel down your drain or in the trash. The meal containers themselves are BPA-free and phthalate-free.

You can easily cancel your Sakara Life subscription under your account profile, but you will need to cancel before Wednesday at midnight EST to not receive meals for the following week. If you just want to take a short break, you can reactive your subscription by logging back into your account and finding the subscription to reactivate. You also cannot cancel the first week of your subscription but can skip any weeks after that under the "edit upcoming weeks" tab section in your account.

The menus are pre-set so you won't be able to make any major changes. That being said, you do have the ability to swap either two or three meals per week when on a subscription meal plan depending on the length of the program.

You're certainly paying a premium for a service like Sakara Life, and at such a high price point you may be wondering if the service is really worth it. The short answer is that the high-quality food and overall program are worthwhile to try if it makes sense with your budget, but they won't provide any miracle cures.

I had a positive experience with the service and was very impressed by the innovative meals and delicious flavor profiles. Everything was plant-based, gluten-free and dairy-free but still managed to feel inventive and delicious. The service also expanded my palate by introducing me to various international cuisine flavors that I hadn't tried before. Everything was seasoned perfectly and filled me up, too. Having the options ready-made was extremely convenient for me and my lifestyle. The Sakara Systems experience felt curated and it was nice knowing that the meals all served a specific purpose towards a wellness goal.

Assortment of Sakara Life Meals for Testing

I would definitely use the service again, though I would likely go for the two-day or five-day Signature Nutrition Program to help save time and reduce stress on my busiest days of the week. The one-week Sakara System plan is also something I'd do in the future for a week when I know I have a lot going on but still want to prioritize my health and nutrition. One tester had similar sentiments and said, "I've already ordered a couple of Sakara Life products while using the meal service and am super happy with them. I would definitely order the meals again if the circumstances were aligned. I was really happy with how I felt after five days of the meals."

Tester feedback was also largely positive across the board. "Overall my experience with Sakara Life was wonderful," a tester said. "I felt that the ingredients, flavors and overall variety of the meals were really lovely." Another tester said that the meals were all delicious and better than she thought they would be. "I looked forward to each meal and I was always full after the meals. I never once felt the urge to consume anything outside of the delivered foods because I was always satisfied."

If you're considering a trial with Sakara Life, we recommend the two-day Signature Nutrition Program as it's the most affordable program option and can help you determine whether or not the service will fit your nutritional needs.

To find the best meal delivery services, we recruited over 280 at-home testers along with our in-house product testing experts. Over the course of three months, we evaluated over 40 different meal delivery services, ranging from traditional kits that come with pre-measured ingredients and a follow-along recipe card to fully prepared options.

Philip Friedman

We made our selections based on expert evaluation and tester feedback, including overall satisfaction, food quality, cost, recycling efforts and availability. Our picks for the best prepared meal delivery services cater to a wide variety of special diets and dietary preferences including gluten-free, organic, vegetarian and more. As a result of our testing, we believe the companies spotlighted above deserve recognition for their performance in their categories. The Worldwide Hemp Clothing Industry is Expected to Reach $10.1 … – Business Wire

Posted: at 12:12 am

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The "Global Hemp Clothing Market Size, Share & Industry Trends Analysis Report By End User (Women, Men and Kids), By Type (Dress, Shirts, Pants, Coats & Jackets, Activewear, T-shirts), By Distribution Channel, By Regional Outlook and Forecast, 2022 - 2028" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

The Global Hemp Clothing Market size is expected to reach $10.1 billion by 2028, rising at a market growth of 26.0% CAGR during the forecast period.

Hemp fiber is produced from the Cannabis sativa plant, which is better known for producing marijuana or hashish. Nevertheless, hemp only has 1% THC, contrary to marijuana's 20% THC content, which is what causes consumers to feel high when they smoke it. Amazing characteristics of this fiber include exceptional dyeability, UV light blocking, mildew resistance, and inherent antibacterial properties.

It effectively transfers heat as well. Some of the industries that use it include paper, building, biodegradable plastic, chemical cleanups, healthy food, and fuel. Hemp fiber is used to reinforce door panels by automakers like BMW in order to improve safety norms. Compared to other fabrics, hemp cloth uses less water, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and herbicides.

It is more successful at extracting carbon dioxide from the environment than many other crops, which results in a smaller carbon footprint. Hemp can absorb 10 to 15 tonnes of CO2 per acre throughout the growing season, which is equivalent to one person's usual annual CO2 emission. On the list of sustainable textiles and fibers, hemp is listed alongside jute, flax (linen), organic cotton, and bamboo.

Hemp fiber from the stem and seed can be used to make insulation and animal bedding, respectively. The earth benefits from hemp as well. The production of maize from a field will be higher if hemp was initially grown there. It's also a good idea to plant wheat and barley once the hemp crop has been harvested. Due to the potential benefits to the environment, several producers are working to have hemp and cannabis grown according to organic standards.

It has been widely publicized how much the fashion business contributes to the pollution and destruction of the rivers, oceans, and atmosphere. Every second, an estimated truckload of discarded clothing is burned or dumped. Although there are many residents who are concerned, the current sustainable fashion solutions are expensive and time-consuming. As consumer attitudes toward the environment & ecology have evolved, there is a greater need for eco-friendly clothes.

Market Growth Factors

Low Cost Of Hemp Fabric

The fact that hemp is a rapidly renewable resource and doesn't require the use of artificial fertilizers or pesticides has a positive impact on the environment. Hemp can be renewed two to three times per year and generates more fiber per acre than trees.

Additionally, nothing is wasted during the production of hemp because the stalks are used to generate fiber and the seeds are used to make dietary supplements and oil. Industrial hemp plants are better at absorbing carbon dioxide than forests. These elements will accelerate the market for hemp garments even more.

Rising Demand For Natural Fabrics

Nowadays, it's fairly frequent to hear the word "organic." Including organic items in the everyday routine has several benefits. Today's market offers a variety of organic goods, including anything from organic food to organic clothing.

The organic agriculture movement, which emphasizes cultivation and processing without the use of synthetic or chemical pesticides or genetically modified or radioactive plants, includes organic products as a component. This ensures that the environment is not damaged too much.

Market Restraining Factors

Availability Of Various Substitutes Of Hemp Fabric

Various alternatives to hemp fabrics are available in the market such as linen, tencel and cotton. Overall, linen upholstery fabric is quite simple to maintain. In actuality, buyers can easily wash & dry slipcovers in their own homes. Depending on the buyer's option, linen fabric can also be washed by hand or by the dry cleaners.

One of the few textiles that doesn't wrinkle or crease readily is tencel, and any creases that do develop in the fabric as a result of being scrunched up for an extended period of time can be removed with ease.

Global Frozen Food Market projected to be worth USD 296.55 … – GlobeNewswire

Posted: at 12:12 am

without comments

Clifton, New Jersey, Jan. 05, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The research report titled, "Global Frozen Food Market Outlook, 2027," published by Bonafide Research anticipates the market to grow rapidly over the forecast period at a CAGR of 4.76%. The rising consumer preference for ready-to-eat food products that need the least preparation and cooking time is the major growth driver. The global rise in women's employment rates has spiked the demand for frozen food as cooking fresh meals becomes a challenge within a limited time frame. The trend toward convenience foods, as well as changes in lifestyle that result in altered dietary patterns and spending habits, have resulted in an increase in demand for frozen food products. The frozen food myth acts as a drawback, restricting consumers' willingness to spend on these products. Furthermore, the growing preference for fresh and natural products complicates matters. The sodium content and starch content are found to be in greater proportion, which might have side effects that may hinder the market.

COVID-19 effect

The frozen food industry has seen steady growth since COVID-19 began as people gravitated towards foods with longer shelf lives. Decreasing grocery store visits and preparing for potential food shortages motivated consumers to shop frozen during the pandemic. Frozen foods also appeal to consumers looking to avoid cooking when they cannot visit restaurants. Manufacturers, however, faced supply chain difficulties due to restrictions in some countries and a lack of raw materials. This delayed the end product's delivery. Due to this, the manufacturers started selling directly to consumers through online shops. Government policies prohibiting trade in international foodstuffs further acted as a restraining factor. Following the pandemic, manufacturers are innovating environment-friendly, organic, and recyclable frozen food packaging products.

Frozen Food Trends

The rising number of hotels, cafes, restaurants, and cloud kitchens that utilize frozen foods to prepare novel dishes with freshly preserved ingredients that save cooking time is another factor influencing market revenue. The development of numerous e-commerce retail channels that offer a comprehensive range of products and the emerging trend of ordering food online, on account of the higher penetration of smartphones coupled with high-speed internet, is expected to stimulate the frozen food market over the forecasted period. Frozen potatoes and meat & poultry together constitute over 55% market share. The freezer-to-microwave food pack is expected to be in huge demand due to its ease of use. Veganism is an emerging trend, stimulating the demand for frozen food that are pure, natural, and whole foods. Mainstream food manufacturers are embracing more sustainable ingredients to cater to the ever-increasing frozen plant-based food segment.

End User

The commercial segment generally prefers to use frozen vegetables, frozen meat, frozen seafood, or frozen poultry to prepare meals as they are readily available. It is much easier to stock these than it is to manage the inventory on a daily basis. Though the commercial segment currently dominates demand, residential consumers are expected to outnumber commercial consumers by over 52% by the end of the forecast period 2027. This is due to Residential consumers rising disposable incomes, convenient cooking, and cost-effectiveness when compared to eating out or ordering food. A major factor that influences this change in buying patterns is the wide variety of frozen food available over the counter, small pack sizes, and affordability.

Freezing Technique

Belt freezing or cryogenic spiral freezer technology is expected to be in high demand in the coming years because it allows for the production of frozen food on a small amount of available floor space. They are designed for easy cleaning and maintenance and use liquid nitrogen or liquid carbon dioxide as the refrigerant. Additionally, it reduces the cost per kg of treated product and achieves a much higher yield. Though the IQF technology is likely to remain the most sought-after technology to pack frozen food since each piece is individually frozen, particles do not cohere and do not transform into a solid block.

Product Type

Vegetarian-ready meals are expected to register the fastest growth rate of around 11% over the forecast period. Ready-to-eat food has become one of the most versatile segments in the frozen food market in recent years. The ready meals segment is expected to be in high demand over the forecast period due to changing food consumption patterns, increasing urbanization, an increase in women's employment, and a wide variety of frozen food. In particular, China and India are both seeing an increase in their consumption patterns, resulting in increased demand for the frozen ready-meal market. Frozen ready meals haven't always been popular, due to their low shelf life and high price, but over the forecast period, the market is predicted to go leaps and bounds. This is due to developments in cold storage infrastructure and increased investments by retailers in frozen-ready meals to popularise the product. Companies in the frozen packaged food sector are adding nutrient benefits along with flavor to appeal to a wider demographic seeking wellness and flavor.

Sales Channel

Online grocery shopping has increased with the emergence of mobile applications and e-retailers offering lucrative deals. Also, Independent Retailers or Departmental or convenience stores find it difficult to pile up innumerable frozen food options due to limited freezer space. This is where the supermarkets and the hypermarkets gain the advantage to stock up huge on frozen food products. But, due to insufficiency of time, consumers prefer to order them online rather than waste time commuting to a supermarket. More and more consumers are shifting their preference towards online shopping owing to a host of features, along with variety and convenience. With the rising prevalence of the Internet and extensive technological advancements, online frozen food shopping will be a lucrative opportunity for frozen food companies over the forecast period, with a growth rate of over 14%.

Regional Analysis

The Middle East & Africa region is projected to register the fastest CAGR during the forecast period. Rapid urbanization, a lack of time to cook, an increasing demand for convenient food, improved living standards, and the presence of a high percentage of expatriates are factors driving the demand for frozen food. Millennials and the Gen Z population are more inclined toward frozen foods owing to their willingness to try new varieties of convenience food. Saudi Arabia is heavily dependent on imports to meet local demand due to the insufficiency of food production. Due to their high retail stability and ease of import, frozen food products are more common in the nation than in other food formats.

The Asia-Pacific region is expected to register a higher growth rate during the forecast period, with brands rolling out numerous frozen food options. This is due to the rising number of working-class consumers in certain countries, specifically China and India. The market growth is attributed to increasing demand for frozen snacks, appetizers, ready meals, and desserts in the region, as well as muffins, and the growing influence of western culture on the region's young population. The growth of the organized retail sector and favorable government policies are attracting leading food manufacturers to establish their manufacturing units in the region. Moreover, the rapid expansion of the food & beverage and tourism industries is also driving the demand for frozen food across the Asia-Pacific region.

Europe leads the global frozen food market with the highest demand for frozen meat accounting for 35%. This is due to the fast and busy lives of its populace. The consumption pattern of consumers shifts from raw food to convenience foods. Germany and France are Europe's two most important frozen food markets. Factors like increasing urban income, economic stability, and high purchasing power are the key drivers for generating higher revenues. The growing popularity of frozen foods in Europe can also be attributed to the growing preference for ready meals, the cost-effectiveness of the products, the globalization of cuisines, evolving culinary practices, favorable regulations, innovative practices by players in the industry, and the increasingly busy lifestyles of consumers. Moreover, the introduction of various healthy and diet-related frozen meals has added to the popularity and convenience of frozen foods, thus providing further impetus to the market's growth.

North American consumers prefer greater convenience and on-the-go food, and the trend is towards smaller and more frequent meals. The fastest growing segments are frozen vegetables & fruits and ready meals. The demand for frozen ready meals is mainly driven by the rising demand for frozen pizza and handheld breakfast, which are positioned as low-cost products and thrive on quality and freshness. Innovative product developments, like low-trans-fat, low-fat, multigrain, whole wheat, and low-artificial-preservative products, are expected to provide an impetus to the frozen food industry. Penetration into the packaged and premium segments of frozen foods may be a huge opportunity for the frozen food market.

In Latin America, the advantages of frozen food and the strong backing for technological innovation have made the items more widely available and reasonably priced for consumers. Frozen food is becoming more affordable as a result of the development of new technology. The rapidly evolving retail landscape and the influx of multiple brands across various product categories have boosted the frozen snack market. This is also due to the booming food service industry. The women's workforce in Latin America has increased along with a rise in the youth populace, leading to an increase in the consumption of frozen food products.

Many frozen food manufacturers are responding to this by investing heavily in new manufacturing and processing equipment. Related Reports:

Global Frozen Fruits & Vegetables Market is anticipated to expand by over 5% CAGR during the forecast period. A shift has been observed globally among consumers towards frozen fruits and vegetables, with many consumers opting to be vegan and using substitute food products for carbohydrates and fibers. This growing adaption has enabled the manufacturers to innovate the products, enriching them with specific dietary requirements such as dairy-free, vegan, sugar-free, gluten-free, and plant-based products. Further, frozen fruits and vegetables are rapidly gaining traction among consumers as they offer a wide range of advantages over fresh produce. The technique employed in freezing fruits and vegetables assists in retaining the color, flavor, and nutritional value of these products. It slows down the decomposition by turning the residual moisture into ice, which prevents the growth of bacteria. They offer numerous benefits, including low cost, easy preparation, and availability during the off-season.

Global Frozen Potato Products Market has crossed revenue of USD 50 Billion in 2021, according to Bonafide Research. The availability of various forms of frozen potatoes, such as French fries, hash browns, shapes, mashed sweet potatoes, and others, has increased their popularity among consumers. This is due to the attraction of the fast-food segment and the expansion of quick-service restaurants. However, factors such as improved packaging formats, high-end manufacturing equipment with an increase in investment, and the emergence of new players in this dynamic market will lead the market to grow further. Frozen potato contains different vitamins and nutrients in their natural, preserved form and has a long shelf life. It also contains vitamin B6, fiber, magnesium, and antioxidants. Among all frozen food products, the frozen or processed potato has been identified as one of the most profitable.

Global Frozen Ready Meal Product Market to grow with an expected CAGR of above 5% during the forecast period. In recent years, frozen ready-to-eat food has emerged as one of the most versatile markets, driven by convenience and specific meal solutions. Owing to this increasing demand, the manufacturers have been mainly focusing on nutritional content and microbiological safety. Companies are also coming up with meal kits that include mixed dinners to attract working women. The market has been dominated by the top three regions, namely North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. One of the most recent market trends is online grocery shopping and the introduction of new apps. According to the obtained data, nearly 25% of the population purchased food and groceries from online retail channels.

Global Frozen Meat & Poultry Products Market has expanded significantly, owing to increased demand from both developed and developing countries, as well as advancements in freezing technology. The entire farm-to-table trend has been seemingly upended, anchored in advanced packaging, storage, and shipping across the globe. Consumers have come to accept frozen products as nutritionally equivalent to unfrozen ones. Industry players, in turn, are responding to the interest, and packaging companies have expanded their array of offerings to meet the range of transportation and storage needs of frozen meat. Brands in the frozen meat category have been harnessing state-of-the-art monitoring systems to ensure freshness. Beef and chicken, in particular, have gathered considerable steam of late, making them lucrative categories for players in the frozen market to capitalize on during the forecast period.

Global Frozen Fish & Seafood Products Market is gaining considerable revenues as consumers shift towards a healthy lifestyle with foods high in nutrition value. Seafood contains high levels of protein, low calories, and multiple vitamins and minerals, and specifically, fish have omega-3 fatty acids. Eating seafood decreases the risk of heart attack, stroke, hypertension, and obesity. Further, the influence of tourism and the hospitality industry contributes positively to the expanding frozen fish and seafood food market. The trend toward wild-caught fish is another key driver that is boosting the growth of the frozen fish and seafood market. Many consumers are citing wild-caught seafood's taste, healthfulness, and freshness. Since fish sourced from its natural habitats can only be harvested on a seasonal basis, companies are increasing efforts to freeze-cool wild-caught fish in order to ensure a year-round supply.

If you think your company isnt a software company, youre mistaken, according to McKinsey – Fortune

Posted: at 12:12 am

without comments

Every company is a software company.

Shifting to this mindset in 2023 would benefit any company, in any industry even if its more than 100 years old, according to McKinsey. To compete and grow in a digital world, traditional companies are realizing they must look, think, and act like a software company.

I sat down with Jeremy Schneider, a senior partner at McKinsey in the New York office, and a co-author of a report that delves into this topic. Software is becoming an essential element across an enormous share of most companies, Schneider says. Nearly 70% of top-performing companies are using software as a core strategy to differentiate themselves from the competition. And a third of top-performing companies are actually selling software.

He continues, If you think about companies that have really gone far down this path and have been successful, either the entire company or at least part of the company really feels like, operates like, and has a culture like a software business.

The team analyzed more than 20 software transformations and interviewed a dozen senior executives who have led successful software transitions, he says. The findings: Becoming a software business requires foundational change with different skill sets, practices, leadership, and organizational structures.

The way people are interacting with software is changing, Sudhir Nair, global head of the Aladdin Business at BlackRock told McKinsey. (Aladdin is a portfolio management software system.) Today, at BlackRock and at our Aladdin client [companies], a meaningful portion of the organization self-identifies as technologists, and a big chunk of those people dont sit within the part of the business formally recognized as the tech org.

Cultural transformation

Cloud computing, platform as a service, and A.I.-based programming assistance are putting unprecedented power into the hands of billions of workers, according to McKinsey. And its certainly helping to power remote work. But some companies still arent getting the business culture change part.

I often go in and talk to companies and they say, I want to build deeper software capability. Thats no problem. Ill just go hire some more software engineers, Schneider explains. But the reality is, thats such a tiny portion of what is required. It really is a cultural transformation that enables you to attract and retain the right talent. And it enables you to set up that talent for success by empowering them, and shifting the mindset of the organization to value what they do.

If fact, finance chiefs play a big role in this process, Schneider says. There are five CFO practices in the context of building deeper software capability or acting like a software company, he told me.

1) Having the right mindset towards investment. The reality is, building deep software capability or products requires sustained investment, Schneider says. In many cases, it can take three to sometimes as long as five years before you experience the fantastic returns people are excited about in software.

2) Its important for the CFO to understand software M&A, he says. Especially since its still quite expensive relative to other categories of M&A.

3) Reallocating resources is an important part of all CFOs jobs, but in software, a piece of that reallocation is even greater than most other businesses, Schneider says.

4) Theres a number of areas of portfolio management that often fall on the CFOs plate. But running a software portfolio requires understanding what is the right shape and contour of investment across different stages of the life cycle, he says.

5) If youre directly monetizing software, understanding how to put in place the right metrics internally and externally, like annual recurring revenue, is important, he says.

We find more and more companies across industries are coming to us saying, I dont want to learn from my peers. I want to learn from the best software companies because Im investing hundreds of millions of dollars in software engineering, Schneider says.

Software companies also understand how to prioritize the customer, he says. If you think about the way great software companies build a product, a customer-first focus is deeply embedded in that, Schneider says.

Mckinseys report also states: In our experience, one-third to one-half of a leadership team should be deep software experts. I asked Schneider if that meant CFOs will need to be more tech-savvy.

If you think about the CFO lens on a software transformation, it really goes from thinking of technology as a cost center with a group of projects to thinking of it as a collection of products that are creating value, he explains. Whether that value is directly revenue or revenue enablement. That mindset shift is quite essential. In many cases, that meant bringing in new finance leadership for the mindset shift. Or some CFOs themselves can make the shift.

For some finance chiefs, beefing up tech knowledge should be first on their list of New Years resolutions.

Have a good weekend.

Analysis: What’s the future of gene editing in the United Kingdom? – Genetic Literacy Project

Posted: at 12:12 am

Gene-editing technology is a powerful tool that can boost sustainable farming, fight nutrient deficiencies and reduce consumer food prices.

Dozens of countries have already enacted evidence-based regulations that allow their farmers to grow gene-edited crops engineered for disease resistance, increased nutrient content and many other useful traits.

Following its departure from the European Union (EU), England is poised to liberalise its food safety regulations and allow the commercial use of gene-editing technology in plant and animal breeding.

UK scientists have already begun to develop products that will benefit farmers and consumers and yield enormous economic and environmental dividends should the pending regulatory changes take effect.

Follow the latest news and policy debates on agricultural biotech and biomedicine? Subscribe to our newsletter.

The shifting regulatory landscape has drawn intense criticism from activist groups and organic food producers. While their objections to gene editing are well intentioned, they do not stand up to scientific scrutiny.

The UK is moving in the right direction by rolling back its restrictions on agricultural gene editing in England. Policymakers should move quickly, however, to embrace all forms of genetic engineering, including the technology used to produce genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Ample scientific evidence shows that these breeding tools are safely used in food production, generating billions in additional income for farmers and significantly lowering food prices for consumers.

Organic Snack Co. breaks ground on expansion project – Food Business News

Posted: November 18, 2022 at 12:29 am

BEDFORD, PA. The Organic Snack Co. (TOSC), a privately-held food manufacturer and producer of Kates Real Food, broke ground Nov. 16 on a 30,000-square-foot expansion project at the companys site in Bedford. The company said the expansion will include upgrades to production lines as well as additional space for warehouse capacity and fulfillment operations.

We couldnt be more excited to begin this next chapter of growth for The Organic Snack Co., said Mark Thaler, chief executive officer. Since we opened our doors in March of 2020, the Bedford community has welcomed us with open arms, and we couldnt be happier to invest more back into this location that has facilitated our explosive expansion. We look forward to continued success for The Organic Snack Co., Kates Real Food, and in our mission of spreading the word on the benefits of outdoor play and organic food.

TOSC earlier this year acquired 82 acres in Bedford to expand the companys operations as well as begin the construction of additional manufacturing and warehousing space, with a total build-out of up to 750,000 square feet. At that time, TOSC said it expected to invest more than $75 million and create more than 500 jobs as part of the project. The latest expansion is not part of the project announced in March.

Formerly known as Tram Bar Co-Packing, LLC, The Organic Snack Co. partnered with Kates Real Food in 2019 to build a 20,000-square-foot facility in Bedford that allowed Kates to increase production from 1 million bars to 12 million bars per year. The expansion was completed in the summer of 2020. Today, TOSC is the exclusive producer of Kates Real Food energy bars and bites.

Meet the Organic Spirits Distillers Revolutionizing the Industry – Yahoo Life

Posted: at 12:29 am

without comments

Over the past decade, appetites for organic products have ballooned past the point of trendinesscementing the idea of going organic as a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. Proudly burnished labels can be on nearly anything these days, from produce and cosmetics to wine and even pet food. Nearly anything we put into, or onto, our bodies have shifted away from the use of harmful pesticides, so why does organic spirits still sound like such a novel concept?

Its hard to believe, but less than one percent of liquor available in todays market is certified organic, according to the Land Institute, despite organic food sales in the U.S. showing double-digit growth during most years since the 1990s, with no chance of slowing any time soon. Reaching organic status isnt as easy as flipping a switch, and distilleries desiring to make that shift must contend with everything from logistical and cost-related issues to the painstaking, time-consuming process of attaining a federally recognized certification.

The booze companies that have decided to create organic spirits, whether from the time of their inception or with intentional maneuvers over the years, must start their process at the source.

Courtesy of Hanson Vodka

While we were doing research and development, my parents were really adamant there was a market for the products we were trying to create, says Alanna Hanson of Hanson of Sonoma, which produces vodka from organic grapes, and was the first distillery in Sonoma County, CA, to complete the USDA certification process.

We grew up in the Bay Area surrounded by the slow-food movement, tons of farmers markets, and this really, very conscious farmer-driven lifestyle. So, we knew originally that we wanted to produce an organic vodka, and we actually approached a couple of the major distributors that all said Don't waste your time with organicnobody cares.

Spoiler alert: People do care. In fact, the certified organic industry is currently in its twelfth consecutive year of growth. A recent survey showed that around 82 percent of Americans buy organic food now and, according to estimates, the number of U.S.-certified organic acres reached 9.1 million in 2021, representing a 123 percent increase from the official estimate back in 2008.

Regardless of this apparent demand, going organic isnt a quick shift, or a cheap one at that. In order for U.S. distilleries to label their product as such, they have to undergo testing and meet rigorous standards to get a stamp of approval from the USDA. The process is different in every country, making it even trickier when it comes to imports.

Even before I built the brand, I knew I would incorporate a strong commitment to sustainability and a big part of that is being respectful to both our environment and our heritage," says Paolo Dalla Mora, ENGINE founder and CEO. That meant producing an authentic Italian organic gin and making sure every part of the process was done intentionally to meet standards.

Dalla Mora adds: Otherwise, we're just another brand putting buzzy words on our label. Not only are our production methods fully certified, but the provenance of each botanical in ENGINE is certified. We distinguish ourselves as an Italian organic liquid, and its important we certify every single small organic farmer that's producing our botanicals.

Just as natural wine is a direct representation of its terroir, organic spirits pay a similar homage. For instance, botanicals found in ENGINE include organic sage from Langhe, lemon from Sicily, licorice from Calabria, and juniper from Tuscany. The wheat they distill with is sourced from Piedmont, and their water is from the Alps.

So when the label says, "made in Italy," it truly is.

"No bullshit, Dalla Mora says.

For the majority of organic distillers, it all begins with the grain. Regardless of whether a company is located in the U.S., Ireland, or Italy, grains grown without the help of pesticides are an absolute must for attaining certification, though the use of some synthetic substances is allowed, as long as they don't contribute to the contamination of crops, soil, or water.

In general, organic grain production relies on biological pest control rather than the blanketed use of chemical pesticides. Once harvested, conventionally grown grains and flours are fumigated, not only while in storage but also in transit. Organic grains present a lowered risk of contamination from mycotoxinssecondary metabolites produced by fungi, which are resistant to technological processes such as distilling, and can have serious adverse health effects.

For many years, spirits have been produced in mass production focusing on yields rather than flavor," says Neil Conway, head brewer at Waterford Whisky. "It's our mission now to educate the consumer to understand how terroir, organic farming, biodynamic farming, and the use of old heirloom varieties can greatly improve quality. The consumer can see for themselves how enhanced the flavors are in our organic spirits that come from different ways of growing barley.

Waterford recently introduced the worlds first biodynamic whisky, Biodynamic Luna, which earned Double Gold at the 2022 New York International Spirits Competition. The distillery is so serious about how organic and biodynamic practices can better showcase terroir, they conducted a scientific study on the matter. Its terroir specialist, Angelita Hynes, also runs an ongoing series of blind sensory panels, which have shown that imbibers can taste more depth of flavor in Waterfords biodynamic distillations.

"Theres a lot of complexity. Its almost like the attributes are speaking much louder, says Hynes. While a conventional farm on the very same soil might have a score of seven for floral notes on our sensory analysis scale, which ranges from zero to 15, maybe organic would fetch a nine and biodynamic would get an 11."

It makes sense in theoryif one were to think about comparing the taste of, say, a tomato from a large chain supermarket, versus one sourced from an organic stand at a farmers market.

I would invite organic naysayers to Barbaresco, where they can see our production process, challenges Dalla Mora. They can experience our sage harvest in June, and smell and taste it compared to a non-organic farmed sage.

In the U.S., products vying for certified organic status must contain at least 95 percent organically produced ingredients. They must also be made using production methods that dont give off pollution residues, including pesticides, fertilizers, and chemicals that can increase the risk of cancer and other health risks. These standards consider all stages of the production process, meaning production, processing, and packaging.

Attaining certification also takes time, as the USDA requires farmers to follow organic standards for three whole years before they gain their stamp of approval. During that time, farmers cant market themselves as organic but are still required to pay the certification fees, expect visits from certification agents, complete paperwork, and more. Once they finally have a certificate in-hand, theyll still have to deal with yearly audits and inspections to maintain the status.

The EU takes steps even further, demanding crop rotation for efficient use of resources and severely restricting the use of antibiotics, along with banning chemical pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and GMOs.

There are not substantial differences between organic wines and organic gin, apart from the fermentation process to obtain wine in contrast with the distillation process for gin," says Dalla Mora. "For both, the entire production chain must be certified organicthe farm, the distillery, and the trade company. Furthermore, even if we're certified in Europe, we must also obtain a certification by the USDA, because rules differ between the two continents.

Organic-minded consumers should also be aware that distilleries and the spirits they produce are individually certified, meaning a certified-organic distillery can actually produce non-organic products alongside their organic ones. For instance, Hanson of Sonoma produces a non-organic whiskey, and Waterford tells us that in total only around 20 percent of their whisky production is organic and/or biodynamic.

It's our vision to increase this over the next few years as more and more growers convert to both organic and biodynamic farming. A win-win for us, the grower, the environment and, ultimately, the consumer, says Conway.

When it comes to the health of the local environment, organic tends to reign supreme. For one, the prohibition of genetically modified grains means naturally heartier and more diverse crops. With the correct methods, organic farming also helps to improve soil fertility and maintain water quality, among other bonuses. When biodynamic processes are brought into the mix, the land is given even more opportunities to prosper, thanks to the elimination of monoculture planting, which can lead to soil degradation and is detrimental to pollinator populations.

The matter of our own physical health, on the other hand, is a trickier topic to tackle. Alcohol itself is not healthy, and no matter how you slice itorganic or non-organic, drinking alcohol is not advisable for good health.

But if you do indulge, Hanson makes a pitch for organic liquor as quality control, due to the ambiguity of alcohol labels. By her logic, an organic certification can, at the very least, put the consumers mind at ease regarding the addition of sketchy preservatives and sweetening agents post-distillation.

The main thing about spirits is that, unlike any other consumable or even makeup products, there are no ingredient lists on labels. There arent a lot of ways to verify what's in the bottle, she says. Being an organic product, you go through such rigorous audits and testing, which keeps you really authentic to what the product is. You literally can't put anything in the bottle that people shouldn't be consuming. To me, that drives a better product because you have so many more standards you have to hold yourself to.

Its clear consumers are interested in seeing more organic products enter the spirits market, and that the average imbiber is becoming increasingly conscious of the where, what and who behind their favorite tipples. Just like produce and wine before it, the liquor market is one driven by consumer demands.

While not all distillers can afford to make the jump to organic just yet, many are acknowledging concerns around the environment, and feeding into a growing demand for small batch bottles. Like the craft beer and natural wine movements before it, the driving force for consciously crafted spirits is coming from small production distilleries willing to take a chance.

I'm not sure if the industry is ready, particularly the bigger players who are driven by spirit yield and obtaining the cheapest raw material from wherever they can get their hands on it, says Conway. I would hold up more hope for the next generation of drinkers and distillers who might turn the table. It's up to us and other like-minded people in the industry to educate and spread the word.

For many of these distillers, a mindful shift to organic is not just about what the customer wants, but the (hopefully) lasting impact their craft can have on the environment.

We have a debt to pay in terms of the work we do, says Della More. "For sure, it's easiest for a small producer to start or restructure distilleries with an organic vision. ENGINE is currently in the process of certifying itself as a Benefit Corporation (B-Corp). We're putting in the work because I believe sustainability and the benefit to our people and our planet are more of a priority than the profits. I invite our biggest competitors to consider this a priority as well, as these are changes that need to be made across the board.
