Continue putting up with one another and forgiving one another freely ... Even as Jehovah freely forgave you, so do you also.Col. 3:13.
Of course, it is not always easy to forgive. Even some anointed Christians in the first century apparently found it challenging to settle their differences. (Phil. 4:2) If we have been hurt by a fellow believer, what can help us? Consider Job. He was deeply hurt when his friendsEliphaz, Bildad, and Zopharhurled baseless accusations at him. (Job 10:1; 19:2) In the end, Jehovah reproved those false accusers. God directed them to go to Job and present an offering for their sins. (Job 42:7-9) But Jehovah also required that Job do something. What was it? Jehovah directed Job to pray in behalf of his former accusers. Job did as Jehovah asked, and Jehovah blessed him for his forgiving spirit. (Job 42:10, 12, 16,17) The lesson for us? A sincere prayer in behalf of someone who has offended us may help us to let go of resentment. w13 6/15 3:16, 17
Neither let us practice fornication, as some of them committed fornication, only to fall.1Cor. 10:8.
As servants of Jehovah, we certainly do not search for tempting situations that could lead to immoral sexual behavior. Instead, we pray that Jehovah God will not permit us to succumb when someone tempts us to disobey Him. (Matt. 6:13) But Satan constantly tries to undermine our spirituality as we strive to maintain our integrity in this depraved world. (Eph. 6:12) As the god of this wicked system of things, the Devil knows how to exploit our imperfect desires by putting in our path temptations common to imperfect humans. (1Cor. 10:13) For instance, imagine being in a situation that offered an opportunity to satisfy a particular desire in an immoral way. What choice would you make? How crucial it is to prepare our heart nowwell before we find ourselves in situations that test our integrity!Ps. 78:8. w13 5/15 5:12, 13
I am sending forth to you prophets and wise men and public instructors.Matt. 23:34.
Jesus was speaking about his disciples, whom he taught to use the Scriptures in their ministry. At Pentecost 33C.E., one of these public instructors, the apostle Peter, gave a talk to a large crowd in Jerusalem in which he quoted several passages from the Hebrew Scriptures. On hearing Peters application of these words, many listeners were stabbed to the heart. They repented over their past sins. About three thousand of them sought Gods forgiveness and became Christians. (Acts 2:37-41) The apostle Paul spoke to those worshipping in a synagogue in Thessalonica. For three Sabbaths, Paul reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and proving by references that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead. The result? Some of them [Jews] became believers, as did a great multitude of the Greeks.Acts 17:1-4. w13 4/15 2:3, 4

EXHAUSTIVELY RESEARCHED, brilliantly constructed, informatively and briskly written, WAR IN THE SHADOWS is one of the most extensive works on guerrilla warfare ever published. From the charioteers of the Emperor Darius to the jungle-wise Viet Cong, the author has compiled and deftly analyzed the social, political and military factors that give rise to, sustain, and control guerrilla operations as they have been carried out through the ages.
The reader will be totally absorbed by the fast-paced narrative as Robert Asprey, author of Semper Fidelis, presents us with lucid, delving insights into:
The careers of guerrilla leaders: Villa and Zapata... Che Guevara... Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox" of the American Revolution... Hannibal... T. E. Lawrence... General Giap of Viet Nam... Jomo Kenyatta.
Guerrilla leaders and forces that actually toppled empires and wrested control of nations: Fidel Castro... the Irish Republican Army... the Viet Minh... Mao and Ho Chi Minh... the Mau Mau... the Bolsheviks... Attila and the Huns... Tito.
Conventional leaders who adapted certain guerrilla tactics and worked successfully with guerrilla units: Alexander the Great... Caesar... George Washington... Robert E. Lee... Frederick the Great... Lord Kitchener... the Duke of Wellington.
Famous insurrections and uprisings: the Sepoy Mutiny in India... the Boxer Rebellion... the Philippine Insurrection... the Mexican Revolution... the Cyprus revolt... the Boer Wars... the Crusades... uprisings in modern Africa.
The theory of guerrilla warfare is examined in Volume I as Asprey quotes extensively from such military historians and tacticians as Jomini, Machiavelli, Clause-witz and Liddell Hart. He personally explores the use and effects of terror, adapting to terrain, controlling civilian populations and the paradox of terrorist activities; and he gives insights into many guerrilla and quasi-guerrilla bands only touched on in all but the most specific histories: the Vikings... the Japanese infantry of World War II... the Palestinians... the French OAS in Algeria... the Sinn Fein in Ireland ... the OSS... the American Indian tribes.
Volume II of this impressive work focuses on Indochina and Viet Nam, giving one of the most comprehensive, far-reaching studies of that turbulent land and its wars yet published. Read of the Vietminh and the famed battle of Dien Bien Phu... American intervention... ARVN tactics ...the roles of Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon... Viet Cong setbacks ...the air war... the Tet offensive... the role of the CIA... the facts behind American withdrawal.
An unprecedented work of monumental proportions, WAR IN THE SHADOWS, highlighted by 63 maps, an extensive bibliography and the author's brisk narrative style, is a giant two-volume reference source for every military and history buff. It is a history you will turn to again and again, for its own intrinsic value and as a supplementary guide to almost every volume on your history bookshelf.
"I regard it as excellent in every respect and as making a major contribution to the history of a sad episode in my Country's foreign relations... the writing is of conspicuously high caliber, rich in lessons learned and unlearned."
-Gen. Matthew B. Ridgeway
"...One of the most sensible and thorough discussions of the war in Viet Nam that I have yet read. It is mercifully free of the cant that usually accompanies writing about Viet Nam and it is particularly good on the military history of the war."
-Donald S. Zagoria, Research Institute on Modern Asia, Hunter College
"It is indeed a unique work. I cannot recall any other work in any language I read which treats this subject. Robert Asprey writes with power and clarity... it could easily have been episodic -a series of vignettes. Instead it reads like part of a larger work which might well be titled "Power-Its Use and Abuse; Its Attainments and Its Loss in Modern Times." On reflection it scared the hell out of me."
-John A. Harrison Editor, Journal of Asian Affairs
"I am tremendously impressed by your achievement. The breadth of your knowledge and reading is breathtaking, and you handled this amazingly rich material with great skill and discipline..."
-Philip Zeigler
"A very clear exposition of a complicated topic, and I must congratulate you on your ability to pull so many different strands together, and do it so smoothly."
-Peter Paret, Stanford University Department of History
"The author handles the overall subject of guerrilla warfare in the most comprehensive manner that I have read___I think that the book is superb and its pages should be dog-eared in every military man's library."
-James M. Gavin

Kolyma the Worst of the Gulag Archipelago
Posted: at 8:12 am
Here is a book about the most notorious of Soviet death camps in the Siberian region, 2 to 3 million people, most of them White, died under the cruel auspices of the Hammer and Sickle.
This book is about the worst camp in communism, and the people who were sent there on a one-way journey to a camp where there were more real victims than the fictional death tole at Auschwitz.
(Note: This book is now out-of-print, but now available online)
"This excellent historical work gives us a painstaking account of a subject only barely touched on in 'The Gulag Archipelago'... 'Kolyma' may well be the best place to begin an acquaintance with this appalling material."
-Hilton Kramer in The New York Times Book Review
Solzhenitsyn, in The Gulag Archipelago, calls Kolyma the "pole of cold and cruelty" of Stalin's labour-camp system, adding that it is so notorious in the USSR that he himself is only devoting a few pages to it. In this important book, first published in hardback in 1978, Robert Conquest makes it clear why Kolyma is a name comparable with Auschwitz. Its three million-odd victims perished not in gas chambers, but predominantly by cold and hunger, and, as Dr. Conquest demonstrates, these killings were the conscious result of a policy of extermination.
Kolyma is a vast area in the north-east of arctic Siberia and could only be reached by sea, during the ice-free summer months, over which the prison hulks carried their victims in appalling conditions. Drawing on a number of first-hand accounts of life in the camps, the author "has brilliantly made a pattern of the patchwork. His approach, his style, his controlled detachment all suggest a man who is not overcalling his hand" (The Listener).
"Outstanding... a moving compilation of direct experiences coupled with painstaking research to ensure accuracy."
-Deam W. Given in The Chicago Tribune
Robert Conquest's works include several celebrated books on the Soviet Union such as Russia After Khrushchev and The Great Terror.

World Affairs / Conscious Evolution
Date: 08-02-11
Host: George Noory
Guests:
In the latter half, visionary, social pioneer and author Barbara Marx Hubbard discussed the idea of conscious evolution, and how humankind must evolve or face extinction. She suggested that evolution can occur by choice rather chance, and while many are focused on doom & gloom 2012 scenarios, she presented a hopeful vision of our future. "I think we're seeing the emergence of a universal species...we're going to have extended life, extended intelligence, extended contact throughout the universe, that we'll be freed up from repetitive labor...and the species itself will evolve into a co-created humanity... But if we don't, if we stay self-centered, separate, competitive, overpopulating and polluting, we won't make it," she stated.
We're seeing a breakthrough of more people becoming conscious of god, super-nature, spirit, or tendency of higher order-- a transcending impulse of higher evolution, she continued. Hubbard, now 81, shared some of the fascinating paths in her life, how she turned from a housewife into a "futurist," her relationship with Buckminster Fuller, and details of her run for Vice President in 1984 (Neale Donald Walsch recently penned a biography of Hubbard called The Mother of Invention).
