Tsogyaling and Heartwood Host Wellness Events This Spring Featuring Renowned Published Authors

Evanston, IL (PRWEB) February 12, 2015

Heartwood Center for Body Mind Spirit, a holistic health services center, and its affiliate community-based meditation center, Tsogyaling Meditation Center, are hosting a series of special events this Spring featuring renowned practitioners who are also published authors.

A special weekend event that answers all of the most frequently asked questions about the topic of karma, entitled How the World Works: Interdependence and the Twelve Nidanas, with Lopn Rita Gross, will take place March 6-8. In this program, the Buddha's teachings on Interdependence will be discussed thoroughly. The program will rely especially on a set of teachings called the "twelve links" or the twelve nidanas, one of the central ways of presenting how the interdependent world works. Participants will also study a visual representation of interdependence, the "wheel of life" diagram, which has been used for centuries to present these teachings in a more direct, graphic manner.

Known as a humorous and very clear teacher, Lopn Gross' teaching involves a rare combination of academic and dharmic perspectives. Though her approach to Buddhism is non-sectarian, she teaches in the lineage of Jetsun Khandro, Rinpoche, a prominent woman teacher of Tibetan Buddhism. Lopn Gross has authored many books including A Garland of Feminist Reflections: Forty Years of Religious Reflection and Religious Feminism, The Future of the Planet: A Buddhist-Christian-Feminist Conversation and her upcoming release, Religious Diversity, What's The Problem? Buddhist Advice for Flourishing with Religious Diversity.

Following this event, in April, Ari Goldfield and Rose Taylor Goldfield will teach the weekend program Becoming Comfortable in Your Own Skin: The Meditation Practice of Mahumadra. Mahamudra is a profound and powerful meditation practice with a simple message: Our experience is flawless just as it is. During the weekend, participants will explore the foundations of Mahamudra practice in a step-by-step way that develops confidence and direct experience. This will be enhanced and grounded through training in lujong, a series of Tibetan yogic exercises suitable for practitioners of all fitness levels. The lujong exercises help transform stress, anxiety, and physical pain to develop strength, ease, and gentleness.

Ari Taylor Goldfield is a Buddhist teacher and a published translator and author of books and articles on Buddhist philosophy and meditation, as well as numerous songs of realization. He holds a B.A. from Harvard College and a JD from Harvard Law School, both with honors. He and his wife, Rose Taylor, currently teach internationally from their home base in San Francisco under the auspices of Wisdom Sun, the practice and study community they established in 2011.

Rose is a life coach, certified by the Coaching Training Institute (CTI) and the International Coach Federation (ICF), and authorher new book is Training the Wisdom Body: Buddhist Yogic Exercise. She holds an M.A. in Indo-Tibetan Buddhist studies from Naropa University, and spent many years meditating and teaching in nunneries and monasteries in Nepal and Bhutan. Rose has written and translated books, articles, and numerous songs of realization, including Khenpo Rinpoches book Stars of Wisdom and a chapter in Freeing the Body, Freeing the Mind: Writings on the Connection Between Yoga and Buddhism.

Both special events take place in the Spring of 2015 at Heartwood in the Skylight Room, a recently renovated event space. To learn more and register for the events, visit Heartwood at http://www.heartwoodcenter.com.

Heartwood is a holistic health services center committed to providing excellence in care to Evanston and the greater Chicagoland area.
