August 13, 2012 - New York-Penn League (NYPL) Hudson Valley Renegades (FISHKILL, NY) - The Hudson Valley Renegades will partner with celebrity personal trainer and fitness author Larysa DiDio on Sunday, August 26 to promote the health and well-being of families throughout the Hudson Valley. DiDio will conduct a 30-minute group "feel good" workout for moms, dads and families on the field following the 1 P.M. game at Dutchess Stadium presented by PFX Gym.

"It was a natural partnership," said Didio. "Baseball provides the perfect medium for helping families and kids get healthier, together." During the post-game workout, the Renegades will also conduct an on-field kickball game led by Renegades mascot, Rascal.

"The Renegades are excited to partner with Larysa on this event," expressed Renegades General Manager Eben Yager. "As a family driven organization, we understand the importance of health, fitness and family involvement and believe this a great opportunity to continue fitness education in the ballpark."

DiDio will be available for a book signing as well as answering fans' questions on fitness, diet and family. Book signing and meet and greet will begin at 12 P.M. and continuing throughout the game. DiDio will also take over the Renegades Facebook page on Monday, August 20 from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M to expand fitness and health education.

"Fitness on the Field" will take place Sunday, August 26 as the Hudson Valley Renegades take on the Lowell Spinners at Dutchess Stadium. The first 1,000 kids will receive a Renegades backpack courtesy of New York 529 and K104.

Back To School Health Expo reaches out to the whole family

On Saturday morning outside the Dryades YMCA in Central City, organizer Michaela King counted 120 people waiting in the rain for the doors of the Back To School Health Expo to open. It was the second year for the event hosted by King, a pediatrician, and other Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority sisters.

With the offer of free backpacks filled with school supplies acting as a timely and practical incentive, about 600 people showed up over the course of the four-hour event, which had the theme Healthy, Wealthy and Wise. They rotated through a series of health screenings and demonstrations as well as workshops on financial well-being.

With presentations ranging from physical fitness, low-fat cooking and asthma prevention to mortgage and credit management, the event, while primarily health- and child-focused, sought to address the whole person and the whole family, King said.

Because people will do things for their kids they wont always for themselves, King said, the event provided a chance to get parents to assess their own physical condition, through testing and creating awareness of illnesses including breast cancer, diabetes, heart disease and HIV.

By confronting health problems that disproportionately affect African-Americans, King hoped to create more awareness in the black community about the importance of first prevention and then early diagnosis and treatment.

In order to receive their school supplies and be entered a raffle of bonus prizes, attendees had to complete screenings for body mass index, blood pressure, dental health, blood sugar and vision.

Dentists and eye doctors not covered by insurance providers can be very expensive, King said, and many of the younger children had never been to a dentist or optometrist. Attending one of five financial workshops was also a requirement to earn a backpack.

Ten-year-old Damari Haynes went to the first-time homebuyers workshop with his mother, Myesha Scott. While it wasnt his first choice for an activity, Scott said, he did pay attention, and she quizzed him afterward on some of the basics required before purchasing a home.

Damari said he learned about proper eye care at the eye screening and was pleased to be told his vision was very good. It was his 5-year-old brothers first visit to an eye doctor. Scott said.

The most popular workshop by far, King said, was one geared toward children titled The ABCs and 123s of Saving Money. Kids learned fundamental concepts related to earning money, saving it and setting goals. They were given fake money and required to make choices among a variety of goodies they could purchase.

Sports and Health Club, Fort Collins Club, Remodels Locker Room and Group Fitness Room

Posted: at 11:14 am

FORT COLLINS, CO--(Marketwire -08/13/12)- Fort Collins Club, a sports and health club located in northern Colorado, is pleased to announce that it has begun remodeling the men's and women's locker rooms. The remodel, which began August 3rd, is planned to finish on August 27th. The locker rooms are still accessible for the time being, as currently Fort Collins Club is only remodeling one locker bay per room a week. The club will also be installing brand new flooring in both the men's and women's locker rooms. Installing the new flooring necessitates both locker rooms being entirely closed for the duration of the installation. This closing also includes the vanity, restroom, shower and steam room areas of the locker rooms.

In order to minimize inconvenience, Fort Collins Club has scheduled the flooring installation to occur from August 18th to August 27th, during the first week of school when fewer members typically use the Club. Items in lockers must be removed before August 17th. Staff members will remove any locks or personal items left behind. Fort Collins Club cannot guarantee that any removed items will be returned to their original owners.

Locker rooms will be closed for the duration of the flooring installation, which will begin Saturday August 18 and end Sunday, August 26, 2012. Gym-goers will be provided with alternate changing rooms to minimize inconvenience. Women will be able to use the conference room in the cardio area and men will use racquetball court 4. The sports and health club would also like to remind its members that there is an additional shower area in the family changing area (located by the outdoor pool) that will be available for use.

In addition to remodeling the flooring in both locker rooms, Fort Collins Club has also refinished the flooring in the group fitness room. The refinishing, which took place over the weekend of August 11th, was done in effort to make the room more appealing in addition to having a floor that was more conducive to group fitness workouts. Classes in the room resumed on August 13th.

Fort Collins Club stands among the leading gyms in Northern Colorado. Not only are they renowned for their stellar facility and customer service, but also for their extremely personalized workout plans and group fitness classes for their members. A rock climbing wall, salon and pool are just some of the additional features available for member use. The sports and health club can be contacted by phone at 970-224-2582 or website at http://www.fortcollinsclub.net.
