Westgate Resorts To Join Forces With Up-And-Coming Fitness Camp

PARK CITY, Utah, Sept. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Fitness resorts have become a very profitable trend due to the success of popular NBC reality show "The Biggest Loser." What many of these resorts have been lacking is an attention to detail in the realm of location and staff expectations. Since partnering with Westgate Park City Resort and Spa, One Fitness Camp seems to be ready to fulfill all the desires that had once been left untouched by other fitness resorts.

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20120925/CG80919)

Westgate Park City Resort and Spa is located in the secluded mountain town of Park City, a town where the seasons change seamlessly, so fitness activities are easily varied year round. The founders of One Fitness Camp decided upon the location so that participants in the camp were able to not only lose weight and get fit, but to also custom-tailor fitness plans to be most beneficial to the personal routines and desires of each person that attends. Westgate Resort presented the perfect location for their goals as a fitness resort. The varying fitness activities that are often based around the weather ensure that participants never even have a moment to think about getting bored or complacent with their routine.

One Fitness Camp, a weight loss camp, has also put a great deal of thought and research into their staffing requirements. Their aim is to make an impact on not only a person's health and fitness goals, but to understand and overcome any psychological, medical or other health-related issues that may be attributing to difficulties in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For this reason, their staff includes fitness instructors, nutritionists, chefs, counselors, chiropractors and spa specialists. This gives One Fitness Camp the "Best All Around" award for fitness camps worldwide.

"Our purpose with One Fitness Camp is to put all the pieces together to form the number ONE weight loss camp," says Wayne Larsen, Partner & Fitness Director at One Fitness Camp. "Aside from the beautiful surroundings, and lavish accommodations, OFC has the programming and education component that changes lives. Our intent is to help people adopt a more healthy lifestyle, not just eat well and exercise while they are at camp, but teach and inspire them to be healthy, and feel better both physically and mentally."

In addition to everything One Fitness Camp offers for their regular every day packages, they do have a promotion going on: 10% off their weekly price for the first fifty people that sign up for the ultimate get fit get away.

A DUBBO fitness club has a brand new look after completing its two-month-long renovation.

West Dubbo's Fitness Perfection Health and Fitness Club opened its revamped doors on Saturday and introduced the new changes as well as its group fitness programs.

The renovation involved the weights area to be moved to a new location, where the 25-metre swimming pool had been before it closed in July. The old weights area has become a ladies-only area.

The old pool deck has a wide selection of strength and conditioning equipment.

The free weights area is also on the deck, with more weight machines downstairs where the pool used to be.

A wall now separates the hydrotherapy pool and the weights area, which is used for swimming lessons and people with sports injuries, but any member is invited to use it.

Gym manager Andrew Bassett said the renovation was necessary for the future direction of Fitness Perfection.

"Our services are inclusive to absolutely anybody, no matter how experienced they are in a gym," he said.

During the 1980s and early 1990s, the National Institute of Fitness was the place to lose weight and feel great. Owners Marc and Vicki Sorenson compiled an impressive track record at the Southern Utah resort for helping people shape up and overcome health issues such as diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. NIF's sensible approach included hiking in red rock canyons, exercise classes, hearty meals of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and daily seminars from Marc Sorenson, who has a doctorate from Brigham Young University in education with a health emphasis.

The Sorensons decided to sell their spa in 1994, and the property eventually became the Red Mountain Resort.

Over the years, the couple pursued other interests and organized some fitness retreats.

"But we missed making people well," said Marc Sorenson. "We had some fun at our ranch in Nevada, and taking cruises and traveling in Europe. But when people come to you daily and tell you that you saved their lives, you miss it and want to do it again."

And now they're back. The National Institute of Health and Fitness opened its doors in June as part of the Zermatt and The Homestead resorts in Midway. Guests can enjoy healthy meals, exercise and health classes; hiking the scenic Wasatch foothills, playing tennis, swimming laps in a heated pool, or relaxing in the geothermal waters of The Crater, a natural spring on the Homestead property.

"This is a working spa, not a bunch of ladies sitting around waiting to be pampered," is how Diane Richman of Beverly Hills, Calif., a resort guest in August, described it. "If you're going to lose weight and feel healthy, this is the place to go."

Steve Eddington, managing partner of Zermatt and The Homestead, said the NIHF is considered a "primary pillar" to both resorts. "We want to create destination locations, and this is a cornerstone to helping us accomplish it. We are in one of the most natural wellness areas in the world."

Marc Sorenson said he and Vicki had considered a few different offers in the St. George area, "But then Steve and his wife came and visited with us in St. George, and asked if we could do the same magic as we did before at NIF."

B.C. MP proposes National Health and Fitness Day

Posted: at 3:17 pm

without comments

OTTAWA B.C. Conservative MP John Weston, his fitness instructor wife Donna, and their three soccer-playing kids all have black belts in tae-kwon-do.

When Weston arrived in Ottawa as a rookie MP in 2008, one of the first things he did after noticing the unhealthy lifestyle of many MPs was to set up a program to encourage parliamentarians from all parties to swim, run or walk once or twice a week.

On Monday, the 54-year-old, Mandarin-speaking, Harvard-educated, marathon-running lawyer went a step further with the introduction of a private members bill to create a National Health and Fitness Day.

Westons bill calls on municipal governments to provide free or reduced-rate access to their fitness centres the first Saturday of June each year.

His goal is to create the fittest nation on earth a tall order given that the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development says Canada has one of the highest obesity rates in the western world.

And just last week, Statistics Canada reported that 31.5 per cent of Canadians between ages five and 17 are overweight or obese.

Excess weight among children leads to diabetes, high blood pressure, and thickening of the arteries in adulthood, West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast MP Weston said at a news conference in Ottawa on Monday.

This is the first generation of Canadians who will die at a younger age than their parents, he said, according to a copy of his prepared statement.

Weston told reporters his proposed bill is about fitness, not fatness.

Spotlight: A great way to have fun and get in shape

Kevin Laliberte for Spotlight

Are you ready to party yourself into shape?

Thats exactly what the Zumba program is all about.

Zumba is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, calorie- burning dance fitness-party thats moving people toward joy and health, says Falher area Zumba instructor Diane Dolhan.

Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Before participants know it, theyre getting fit and their energy levels are soaring! Theres no other fitness class like a Zumba Fitness Party.

She adds the best part of it all is that its easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning students.

Dolhan, a qualified Zumba instructor since November of 2011, is once again launching the local fitness-oriented program in Falher beginning Nov. 6. Weekly classes are being offered to anyone over the age of 12 each Tuesday evening from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Guns N Buns Fitness Centre.

The local program drew an average of about one-dozen women last year between the ages of 20 up to age 60-plus.

Last years participants really enjoyed the music and had fun while exercising, she says, adding you dont have to be in tip-top shape to take part.

Fitness Zone Helps Enthusiasts With Certification Courses

Posted: at 3:17 pm

Bandar Seri Begawan - With the Olympics having come to an end recently, more Bruneians are paying greater attention to sports and healthy activities. An increasing number can be seen working out in the health clubs, enjoying state-of-the-art fitness facilities.

Despite the increase in fitness and health awareness, Fitness Education and Certification courses are lacking in Brunei. Fitness Zone, being the most active health club in Brunei, is taking a bigger approach to encourage and sponsor local fitness enthusiasts to go abroad for their fitness certification courses. One famous fitness programme, Les Mills, is always looking for new recruits to join their team of 75,000 certified instructors working in 14,000 clubs across 80 countries.

According to Wu Chun, the founder of Fitness Zone, "Never underestimate what Bruneians can do. As long as you are passionate about what you are doing and you have a strong will to make it happen, it will materialise. Our coaches do their best to get people to dig deeper, go harder and reach higher. They motivate bodies, inspire minds and lead the way to positive change. Not many people are that committed but its great to be one of the few."

Emily Wong, a member-turned-Les Mills instructor at Fitness Zone who is now certified with the American Council of Exercise, said, "The Les Mills programmes have really changed my life. I first started participating overseas and was happy to find out that the local Fitness Zone offers the programmes when I returned."

A majority of the local trainers have also pursued their degree education in the UK and Australia, and have been greatly influenced by the healthy lifestyle abroad.

Fitness Zone currently has 10 expatriate trainers and 15 local trainers who are internationally certified.

We are not creating a National Skinny Day. My wife Donna, a fitness instructor, likes to tell me Im way too thin. And, while some people may see losing weight as an end in itself, todays initiative is not about that.

Men urged to front up over their health

Posted: at 12:22 am

Former All Black captain and hard man Wayne Buck Shelford is urging men to front up over their health.

Shelford is the face of a national awareness campaign to encourage men to visit their family doctor or nurse to get a heart health check. He will be at VTNZs depot in Parnell (65-71 the Strand) at lunchtime today asking customers getting a warrant of fitness for their car Hows Your engine - get your heart checked.VTNZ and Shelford are lending their support to the campaign developed by the Health Promotion Agency (HPA) in association with the Heart Foundation and Pharmac.

"Its a simple message; you regularly check your car; its also essential to get your heart checked," says Wayne.

Wayne says he has been on a health journey himself with a well publicised battle with cancer and weight issues. Having beaten both, he now wants to encourage other men to look after themselves.

"The problem is we kiwi men are too staunch to go to the doctor for a general check up. Men generally, and Maori and Pacific men in particular, dont look after themselves as well as women. "We've got all the excuses. I dont have time; Im not sick. Many men might not have a check-up for years, if ever. We need to get rid of that attitude."

Wayne says Maori and Pacific men are at high risk. For example, for Maori the statistics show that heart disease mortality is about two times higher for Maori than non-Maori. Of Maori who die from heart disease, nearly 50% are aged 45-65, compared to 18% in non-Maori.

"So more of us are dying and we are dying younger."

"We need to make the time to look after ourselves because at the end of the day, its not just about us. Its being there for our families. Were the senior warrior in our families and they need us to be around."

Todays launch is ahead of World Heart day on Saturday September 29 when radio advertisements encouraging listeners to get a heart health check will begin. The radio spots utilise Wayne in a clever play on the famous line of Bring back Buck.

"After the launch the campaign emphasis will move to regional initiatives drawing on existing local champions as spokespeople and regional and community events," said HPA General Manager Stakeholder Relations Tane Cassidy.
