Yoga Baron Launches Free Yoga Marketing Plan for Yoga Studios and Teachers

Posted: September 9, 2012 at 4:16 pm

(PRWEB) September 09, 2012

The yoga marketing plan created by the folks behind Yoga Baron takes an unusual approach to marketing in that it starts off with a discussion about the importance of choosing marketing activities and developing a marketing strategy based on one's personality type and interests.

The reasoning behind this is that marketing, especially web marketing, is a process that requires a diverse set of skills and interests. Not everyone is well-suited for every type of marketing activity; however, there are marketing activities for every person's interests.

Once a yoga studio owner understands their interests, strengths and weaknesses, they can create a robust marketing plan that incorporates marketing activities for which they are well suited. This approach increases the likelihood of success because when interested and engaged in the activity, a yoga studio owner is more likely to persist and follow through with the planned campaign.

Yoga Baron's marketing plan for studios then goes on to set out a 5-step action plan followed by a listing of 40 plus marketing activities to choose from to include in the plan.

The marketing plan is a PDF document that users can save to their computer and/or print as a desk-reference.

Bikram yoga helps to rejuvenate students

Meditation or exercise? When it comes to Bikram yoga, the answer seems to be both. The practice of Bikram yoga entails a 90 minute yoga class within a room heated to a steamy 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Invented by Bikram Choudhury, a yoga guru and National India Yoga Championfor three consecutive years, Bikram yoga consists of 26 different postures interconnected with two different breathing exercises.

The combination of physically strenuous poses and intensive breathing discipline aims to achieve internal detoxification and rejuvenation, when executed properly.

Conveniently located near Wake Forest, a Bikram yoga studio rightly named Bikram Yoga exists in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem.

This studio adheres to the strict qualifications of room temperature, size, decor and humidity levels that all Bikram studios must follow.

As for the classes, Bikram Yoga exclusively follows the routine of 26 postures, both seated and standing, which were invented by Choudhury to systematically move fresh, oxygenated blood to one hundred percent of your body, to each organ and fiber, restoring all systems to healthy working order, just as Nature intended (Bikrams Yoga College of India).

The warmth of the class and mirrored walls allow for maximum stretching of heated muscles and visual concentration on bodily alignment in the mirrors reflection.

I was lucky enough to chat with Grant Gilbert, a Bikram yoga regular and university senior, about what draws him into the Bikram yoga practice.

In true spirit, he paused and referenced the studios whiteboard that hangs adjacent to the front door.

Lululemon to continue global expansion in yoga, running apparel

Posted: at 8:16 am

Despite some setbacks, yoga retail phenomenon Lululemon Athletica Inc. continues to defy its doubters after reporting an almost 50-per-cent jump in quarterly profit to $57.2-million and boosting its 2012 outlook, resulting in its shares soaring more than 12 per cent.

Chief executive officer Christine Day said the retailer is learning from its mistakes, including problems of bleeding colour dyes and discontinuing a popular pair of loose-fitting pants, which prompted customer complaints.

Lululemon was forced to apologize about the bleeding garments on its Facebook page in July. On Friday, it said it would bring back its so-called still loose-fit pants in a reinvented way.

It was such a mistake to ease out the still pant, Ms. Day told analysts. But customers can rest assured weve heard their feedback.

Lululemon manages to respond to problems and even profit from changes it makes to correct them. At the same time, it has turned another snag into part of its business model: Although it is getting better at stocking enough products to keep up with customer demand, it still limits the merchandise it carries on its e-commerce site to create higher demand, minimize clearance sales of excess inventory and ensure customers dont show up at yoga class just to find everyone else dressed in the same Lululemon outfit.

Even so, the retailer grapples with complaints about bleeding clothes and other snafus, which surface quickly on Facebook and other social media, becoming an instant public-relations challenge.

As customer Reyna Yamamoto wrote on the retailers Facebook page earlier this year: In the future could you please test your dyes before production and make sure they dont bleed? I have been staying away from so many of your recent colours lately because of this.

Ms. Day said on Friday that while Lululemons Paris pink hue and other bright neon colours posed problems, the difficulties didnt materially hurt Lululemons financial results.

She said the problems were isolated and the the company hired a colour expert who taught Luulemon a lot of great new tricks ... So the silver lining in having an issue with Paris pink was that it created actually more opportunity.

By making some changes and working with manufacturers and mills, we feel very comfortable now with the product and being able to do our strategic intent, which is push colours and maintain quality, Ms. Day said.

Instructor hopes to bring Yoga Gangsters chapter to town

Posted: September 6, 2012 at 7:21 pm

Claire Santos helps Stacey Barrineau during a yoga class at Family Wellness, at 4817 NE 2nd Loop, on Saturday in Ocala.Claire Santos is involved with Yoga Gangsters, an outreach to help at-risk youth.

Dont let her smile fool you Claire Santos is a gangster.

Absolutely, Im a gangster a yoga gangster, Santos, 37, said as she took a break Saturday while leading group sessions at Power Yoga of Ocala.

Santos, a registered yoga instructor with 400 hours of certification, who also teaches private lessons, is spearheading an effort to form an Ocala chapter of Yoga Gangsters, a Miami-based nonprofit that provides free yoga to troubled youth. The program, given a fun name to connect with kids, has a goal of turning young people away from destructive behavior and toward a positive self-image by instilling self-esteem, confidence and peace of mind.

Santos, who moved to Ocala from Oregon in 2009, heard about Yoga Gangsters through family members.

We want to empower youth who are mired in addictive, criminal and violent situations, and circumstances from teen pregnancy to HIV, to find their presence with the science and practice of yoga, Santos said. When someone is more connected due to the practice of yoga, its harder to do things that are harmful.

She said hatha yoga is more than 5,000 years old and that the word yoga has to do with combining of mind, body and spirit.

Marisol Tamez, 28, a former MTV television producer, has served as executive director of Yoga Gangsters since 2011. The group was founded in 2008 by Terri Cooper. Tamez said the focus is to establish self-awareness, self-respect and self-control among youth who are at-risk or in crisis.

One of the many organizations Yoga Gangsters has served is Stand Up for Kids, an organization that focuses on homeless teens in the Miami area. We also conduct programs at local hospitals and childrens rehabilitation centers to work with children as young as 2 years old, using yoga in an attempt to lower blood pressure without medication as well as address numerous other health conditions, including Autism and Down syndrome, Tamez wrote in an email.

There was an 18-year-old homeless youth in one of our Yoga Gangsters programs who participated for several months and then suddenly stopped appearing. I assumed he went back to a bad environment, Tamez wrote. A few months later, I ran into him on the street. He looked like a new person, was well-dressed and groomed, and shared that he had moved back home after restoring a positive relationship with his mom.

Yoga tougher than you think

Posted: September 5, 2012 at 10:12 pm

Meditation, chants and breathing exercises were what I expected. What I got was a gruelling workout where I was made to do handstands, asked to defy my bodys limit to stretch and given a pose that felt suspiciously like a push-up. All this in a 75-minute yoga class with instructor Jacqueline Quesnel at Akasha Studio, Long Circular Road, Maraval. My yoga education prior to the class was decidedly limited, Id only tried the activity once before, in a yoga for beginners class, which didnt prepare me for the intensity of Jacquelines workout. What I did know was that yoga was the type of exercise that focused not just on the body, but on the mind as well. Jacqueline practices an Anusara-based yoga, a type of yoga she said was known for hand stands and promised we would make an attempt before the class was over.

I wasnt overly excited. I had never attempted or even wanted to attempt a hand stand before. The very first principal is to open to grace, said Jacqueline, before letting me know she would begin with a Sanskrit chant. I interrupted before she could begin, wanting to know the religious connotations here. In my research I had learnt of yogas connection with Hindu philosophy and that it was practiced by Hindus and Buddhists. You dont have to be a Hindu to practice yoga, she answered. I encourage my students to chant with me after I translate for them but I also give them the option of saying a prayer or even being silent before the class starts. The purpose of the prayer, she explained was to give thanks and prepare yourself both spiritually and mentally for the class. She admitted, there was a spiritual aspect to Yoga but added that it wasnt religious. I am Catholic and I have never strayed from being a Catholic. I use Hindu stories as guide sometimes in my class but I dont practice Hinduism or teach it, she said.

While she did a chant, I closed my eyes respectfully and said a quick prayer, thanking God for life. What, I should have done, was asked him for strength, energy and endurance as we stepped onto our yoga mats. The mats, Jacqueline revealed could cost upwards of $300, depending on the material. Eco-friendly materials cost more. Jacquelines first instruction was for me to hug my muscles to my body. I took this to mean I needed to make my muscles tense and proceeded to do so. With Jacquelines assistance I managed to align my body in a proper standing posture, a marked difference from my usual slouch.

She instructed me in my first pose, the table pose, which felt very much like the pose one starts a pushup with, but instead of actually pushing up I had to hold my body in place, all the while with tensed muscles. Yoga is a combination of fitness and stress management and is something you take at your own pace. While speaking, Jacqueline directed me to lift one hand towards the sky and turn my body sideways so that only one of my hands was supporting my body. As my arm wobbled and I felt myself sweat, I realised that this was a lot harder than Jacquelines soft voice and vibrant smiles, as well as several online pictures of pretty poses had led me to believe. We tried the cobra pose. Jacqueline said I did a great job on most of the poses but looking at her fluid moments and the ever-present joyful smile compared to my aching muscles and frowns of concentration I wasnt so sure.
