Side Plank: Quick Fix for Killer Obliques
Hey there fitness enthusiasts! Are you ready to discover the secret to rock hard obliques? Well in just 10 minutes I will teach you a side plank that will help you reveal Spartan style obliques. All you need is a yoga matt and some great enthusiasm to do this exercise. Are you ready? Good! So let #39;s get ripped! 1. Start by lying on the side of your yoga matt. Have your supporting arm positioned so that your forearm is aligned with your shoulder. 2. Then make sure your feet are stacked. Once you are ready, push your hip up towards the ceiling while your supporting arm is aligned with your shoulder and your other arm resting on your hip. 3. Hold this position for 3 minutes and then, when you feel comfortable, raise your resting arm towards the ceiling. Remain in this position for another two minutes and then repeat the exercise on the opposite side for another 5 minutes. And for those of you who want a challenge... a good Spartan challenge, when you reach your resting arm up towards the ceiling raise your foot for added oblique work. Now incorporate this exercise into your routine 3 times a week and in just 10 minutes a day you will have those Spartan style obliques of your dreams. You may have the obliques of a Spartan but do you have the lats to match? Next week I will show you some great exercises that will reveal the back of your dreams. I would like to give special thanks to my cameraperson Dave Hughes for making this episode possible and for all my viewers out there ...From:Daniel SchneiderViews:2 0ratingsTime:02:06More inHowto Style

Why are the Yogi Bhajan 3HO people doing kundalini yoga in a Sikh Gurdwara? – Video

Why are the Yogi Bhajan 3HO people doing kundalini yoga in a Sikh Gurdwara?
Sikhs need to stop disrespect (beadbi) of SIRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB with Kundalini Yoga being practiced at the Yogi Bhajan 3HO Gurdwara in Espanola New Mexico. Sukhmandir Singh Khalsa said on October 26th, "As far as I know the Sikh #39;s do not practice Yoga in the gurudwara..." So what are the 3HOers doing in the video then if it is not yoga? They don #39;t look like they #39;re giving any attention to Guru Sahib and one of them even has their back to Guru Sahib too! "3HOer Pritpal Kaur literally turns her back on Guru Sahib!" gurmukhyoga.com "Gurudwara is where one goes to listen to guru and pay respects to divine and not to perform some yogas or other physical exercises. Its a spiritual place. What #39;s next ? A gym maybe? And obviously that woman in pink Has no grasp of the importance of that symbol. Hopefully all these people will come to learn more about sikh faith by guru #39;s grace. After all we are sikhs(students) And students make mistakes. Maybe they will perform their yoga exercises In some other place or their homes. Gurudwara is In my opinion a PLACE OF WORSHIP AND PERFORM SEVA ONLY." http://www.facebook.com To all Yogi Bhajan followers and 3Hoers; Please do me one small favor, take a few days and read Sikhism and tantric Yoga by a Sikh scholar and then let me know what you think. I read the book after spending 30 years with Yogi Bhajan and it was a real opener for me. Former WWE star Trish Stratus teams with Blue Jays legend in yoga video

Trish Stratus alongside former Blue Jay Joe Carter. (Courtesy trishstratus.com)Former WWE superstar Trish Status admits that one of the biggest challenges since opening up the Stratusphere Yoga studio in 2010 has been attracting men to the spiritual exercise discipline.
That's one of the reasons why Stratus, a 36-year-old Toronto native, has teamed with Toronto Blue Jays legend and two-time World Series champion Joe Carter to create Stratusphere Yoga for Men, a 25-minute yoga workout video being released Thursday in which Stratus and Carter put viewers through a routine of yoga exercises.
"I've known Joe for a number of years through the annual Joe Carter Classic [golf tournament]," Stratus said in a phone interview Thursday. "I know it sounds funny, but us retired athletes talk about the aches and pains... And so one year, before we got started [at the tournament] I said, 'I'm going to show you and Charles Barkley some yoga poses you can do' and that's when we really started talking.
"This year's tournament was coming up and and he asked me to put together a routine [for him] and from there we said 'lets go ahead and film this.' "
So Stratus got together with Carter and Alana Hurov, a television producer and founder of Hotel Yoga and in one six hour day at the Hazelton hotel in downtown Toronto they were able to film the video.
"It's really neat because it's one thing to target men, but [it's something else] when [men] see someone like Joe Carter, who's obviously so respected, he's an athlete that people just know," Stratus said. "People have been really impressed with Joe because he stepped outside his box, he tried something new, put himself in somewhat of a vulnerable position."
Stratus was first introduced to yoga training in 2004. She was still with the WWE at the time and struggling to return from a herniated-disc injury. Physiotherapy had proved unsuccessful, but rather than going ahead with surgery she wanted to see what else she could do on her own to try and speed up the process of rehabilitating her back. She was referred to hot yoga by in-ring rival Amy "Lita" Dumas and so Stratus decided to give it a chance.
She says the effects on her body were instant and after participating in hot yoga almost every day for more than two months she completely reversed the damage of her injury and was able to return to wrestling.
More than seven years later she's retired from professional wrestling and is hoping she can continue to pass on not only the positive outcome yoga can provide on your health, but on your life as well.
"I know for me as soon as I started integrating yoga into my life I can honestly say that everything got better," she said. "From the little things [like] the way I handle traffic to the way my body is feeling.

A Christian priest who is yoga guru
Posted: at 3:48 am
Agra, Nov 1 (IANS) A Catholic priest here is busy popularizing yoga, saying it is beyond religion and "truly universal".
Father John Ferreira's latest book, "Health, Wealth and Happiness Through Yoga", was Thursday released by the Archbishop of Agra Diocese, Albert D'Souza, at St Peter's College.
"The book is a primer, aimed at popularising the intricate knowledge of the esoteric science of yoga, which is beyond religion and truly universal," Fr Ferreira told IANS.
"Modern society with its cup full of stresses, and a package of mental and physical ailments, stands in dire need for India's yogic knowledge," he said.
Archbishop D'Souza agreed.
"Yoga integrated into the school curriculum will provide a holistic approach to education as a science that not only prepares a student for life but provides the art of living well," he said.
"Joyful living, drawn from the depths of one's own rhythm of life, according to the goal set by the Creator, is the foundation of health, wealth and happiness," he added.
In a message read out at the event, Oswald Cardinal Gracias, the Archbishop of Mumbai and president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India, said: "Through the prescribed postures and exercises one improves one's all round sense of well being and is able to enter into oneself so as to commune better with god."
Ferreira, the author, feels yoga has no religion. He himself has been a follower of many yoga gurus and has extensive research to produce the book.
The book includes views of Christian priests who have approved his yoga experiments.

Yoga to Fight Depression and Anxiety
Posted: at 3:47 am
Yoga can be your gateway to your inner soul and effectively heal and rejuvenate it. Yoga is a unique discipline which has been practiced in India since ancient periods.
It cannot be regarded as a simple form of physical exercise as it has a spiritual aspect too. Yoga not only makes way for a healthy body but a healthy mind too. Read on to find out how yoga can help you combat depression and anxiety.
Yoga has a wide range of breathing exercises which combine body positions as well as meditation. Padmasana or Lotus pose is one of the practices in yoga which can be very beneficial to people suffering from depression. This asana involves sitting in a cross-legged position with your hands resting on the knees and your palms facing upward. You can begin with meditating by closing your eyes and concentrating on your breath. Take deep breaths and try to maintain a regular rhythm of breathing. Your chest should rise and stomach should compress when you breathe in and the opposite while you breathe out.
This asana is ideal for regulating the thyroid gland which can help to reduce stress as well as anxiety. You can start by lying flat on your back and slowly your knees closer and into your chest. Then straighten out legs in upward direction so that you feel pressure on your chin and chest. Then in a fluid motion, raise your hips off the floor while exhaling. You can support your hips with both of your hands. Your body should be vertical and straight and your chin should dip into your chest. Hold this position for as long as you can and focus on your breathing. After completing the asana, bring back your body to a lying position.
Also known as the cobra pose, this asana can relieve you from stress by regulating your thyroid and para-thyroid glands. Lie on your belly and keep your arms right beside your body. Now, with your arms in front of you and palms on the floor, arch your back and lift your torso. Avoid lifting your pelvis and then look straight out in front. Hold this position for a few seconds and then relax your body back into a resting position. Repeat this asana for a few minutes for as long as you are comfortable.
This is a simple resting position which can be practiced almost any time when you are feeling stressed and even between asanas. Sit down on your knees so that your hips touch your ankles. Then gently lean forward and continue until your forehead is resting on the floor. Your arms should lie right at the side of your body with your palms facing upwards. Hold this position as long as you are comfortable and focus on your breathing while doing so.
This is one of the asanas which can be executed simply with the help of a wall. Fairly effective in dealing with depression, this yoga position enhances blood flow to the brain. You can start by simply laying flat near a wall. Raise your legs so that they are at a right angle to the body. You can take the help of the wall to support your legs and with practice you can also do this asana without the help of a wall. Try to lift up your lower back and hold this position for as long as you are comfortable.
Also known as the Locust pose, this yoga posture can help you to counter anxiety as well as back pain and digestion problems. Beginners may require a little bit of practice to perfect this pose as this position requires your body to be flexible. Lie flat on your stomach with your hands resting on your sides. Lift up your chest and legs, so that your body is in a curved position like a bow. Raise your head so that you are looking right ahead. Your body weight should not be on your arms and they should also be straight and suspended by your sides.
