Yoga Classes Start At Weston's Norfield Grange Next Week
Posted: at 5:43 am
WESTON, Conn. Local yoga instructor Jen Zako will lead a series of classes at Westons Norfield Grange starting Monday.
Zako, a certified yoga instructor, started the practice more than 20 years ago after she was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. She credits yoga with helping her maintain her health, and started Yoga Remedy to help others achieve the same benefits.
Jen strongly believes that practicing yoga can dramatically improve the quality of peoples lives, her website reads. She is grateful to share the gifts of yoga and teaches with a focus on breath, alignment and finding balance both on and off the mat.
The classes at Norfield Grange will focus on vinyasa yoga, a discipline that focuses on proper postures and breathing techniques. The method can have cardiovascular benefits, as well as increase muscle strength and flexibility and reduce stress, Zako says.
The classes will have three differnet levels of difficulty. Basics will teaches fundamentals for both beginners and more advanced students. Gentle is designed for those with who want a class that is less demanding physically. Open Vinyasa, is for those interested in more of a workout, but still is accessible to beginners.
Zako will teach two sessions per day each Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Norfield Grange from July 22 through Sept. 6. Sessions start at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
The first lesson is free, and each session after is $18, with discounts for bulk packages. Yoga Remedy also offers private sessions and corporate packages. For more information, visit Zakos website.
Norfield Grange is at 12 Goodhill Road, Weston.

Meet the 94-year-old yoga teacher
Posted: at 5:43 am
At age 94, Tao Porchon-Lynch has been practicing yoga for seven decades. And with the release of her new instructional DVD, Yoga with Tao, shes proving that shes not ready to give up her downward dogs just yet.
When asked why she loves yoga so much, Porchon-Lynch said, I think it's the joy of living to feel that when you are in touch with this wonderful power that's inside of you, nothing's impossible.
In the 1940s and 1950s, Porchon-Lynch was an actress, performing in Europe, India and Hollywood. Though initially skeptical about yoga, she eventually tried it and soon became hooked. Porchon-Lynch went on to practice with renowned yogis like B.K.S. Iyengar, founder of Iyengar Yoga, and Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, the yoga teacher credited with developing Ashtanga Yoga.
Eventually, Porchon-Lynch became a yoga teacher herself and still teaches multiple classes each week.
When (students) think they can't do something, and they suddenly realize that they can that this is something not out of the limit the expression on their face is very special, Porchon-Lynch said. It's a big smile (that) comes on their face, and I feel that you can't give me a diamond worth more than that.
Porchon-Lynch attributes her good health and longevity to a combination of yoga and dancing which she still does competitively.
When asked if she has advice to share with others, Porchon-Lynch said, Don't procrastinate. That's one thing. If you want to do something, remember that one minute after midnight, it's already today.
And just as important: be fearless.
Don't get up in the morning thinking of, Well, do I go to the doctors or is this alrightdid I take my medicine? No, no, Porchon-Lynch said. When you get up in the morning, first of all, think without fear.
