A NEW form of yoga is literally turning the fitness world upside down.

Not many workouts defy gravity but aerial yoga, also known as antigravity yoga, will have Toowoomba's most limber twisting into knots.

It is practised using a swing suspended from the ceiling, to support and assist various postures.

For the first time in the city, Zama Yoga Toowoomba will offer beginners classes for the alternative fitness form next month.

Instructor Deb Goulding said not only was it a fun way to practise yoga, but it also had many rehabilitation benefits.

"There's decompression on the joints as all the weight is taken off," Deb said.

"But it's more about being able to let go, and find some trust and strength."

Aerial yoga began more than two decades in the US but is now gaining popularity around the world, including here in Australia.

While it may look daunting for some, Ms Goulding said it was completely safe with the body always supported in the various postures and poses.

Mother Amy Woodruff lives in a clothing-optional community in Hawaii.

She was practicing a yoga inversion naked when her daughter Naia crawled over, hungry. A photograph of her in this moment (links probably NSFW) went viral, and Woodruff said the photo was not staged.

"This happens all the time, by the way.

"When a breast is out and baby is around, they are going to try and get it any way they can! I have been blogging for years now, and this photo was just a simple share of a beautiful captured moment."

Woodruff said on her blog that she never guessed the photo would go viral.

"My blog at this point had been set up so that we could share our travels and Naia with our families and close friends," Woodruff wrote.

"When I posted the photo I had no idea it would be shared the way it was. There was no showing off intended, nor did I send this photo out to any websites to gain attention. A few close friends shared it on Facebook as a beautiful photo of a mama connecting with her child. It was shared again from there and so on and so forth. "

When the photo did make the rounds on the Internet, Woodruff said she was overwhelmed with the reaction.

There's actually something called "fizzy yoga," and Kim Cattrall says it saved her life.

"Fizzy yoga" sounds like something that involves carbonated beverages and stretching, but it's actually physiotherapy that uses yoga poses, breathing and meditation.

Kim Cattrall, who played the sexually hyperactive Samantha on "Sex and the City," credits the new "craze" with keeping her fit as she ages.

"As I get older, I find that cardio is less important to me," the 57-year-old actress said in a recent interview with the Times of London. "What I want to do more of is intense stretching.
