She is Safe 5K draws more than 100

DUNCAN More than 100 participants flooded the streets of Duncan last night for the annual She is Safe Run to the Dark 5k.

Beginning at 9 p.m., the 5K event started and ended at Duncan Regional Hospital.

Registration was $30 dollars and the event brought in about $3,120 for the She is Safe non-profit organization. The organization uses these funds to promote their mission of helping girls and women escape abuse and exploitation.

DeAnna Sanders, She is Safe country director for Indonesia, said she was happy with the turnout. With a total of 104 entries, Sanders was happy to announce that they increased attendance by 12.

This started really well, in fact it started a couple of minutes early, Sanders said. Were really pleased.

Sanders said that a team of 10 advocates and numerous volunteers were involved in the planning of the 5K, which took about six months to coordinate.

Sanders said her favorite thing from the race, aside from helping women and girls fight for safety, is the variety of people that come to participate in this.

This is not a sanctioned race, she said. We do have a lot of people here who know about races, but we have all levels of skill. There are 70-year-old ladies that are walking and I really like that.

Sanders said small awards, including Fit Bits, a small excercise step counter, were given to the overall fastest male and female.

For more information on the She is Safe organization, contact Sanders at 580-467-1479.

Let #39;s Play Tomb Raider Epiosde 11 - #39;An excercise in frustration #39;
In this video I pretty much start as I mean to go on. Struggling with a lot of embarrassing deaths (so much so I have added a counter) and frustrating quick time events and platforming. I hope...
