Posted: April 26, 2013 at 6:47 am
The Knife have announced their European summer tour dates.
The band also revealed that there will be an unusual array of 'support acts' before the gigs, as well as DJ sets at the end of the night.
Many of the evenings will open with Deep Aerobics, described as an "absurdist aerobics class taught by a master-teacher-guru-shaman-dictator-aerobics instructor-new age workshop leader, Tarek Halaby". Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for aerobics.
The Stockholm opening act is feminist art collective FA Kollektivet performing "danceoke" where everyone in the audience is encouraged to dance along to music videos.
Of the shows, the band said in a statement: "We will be there, on stage, all seven of us, sometimes all ten of us, or even more.
"We have worked hard, together. Things, ideas, concepts have been tried, tested, discarded, evolved, perfected and discarded again."

Aerobics and dance teacher celebrated for helping others stay active

Janis Dengler
Aerobics instructor Janis Dengler celebrated her 80th birthday last week. Dengler works out with her class at the Shepherd's Center at First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, Wednesday,
Wednesday's aerobics class at the Shepherd's Center was an exercise in the art of surprise.
The class, made up of senior adults age 50 and up, couldn't pass up the opportunity to mark a milestone birthday for its devoted instructor, Janis Dengler. The retired dance teacher celebrated her 80th birthday on April 11. She's spent most of those years helping others stay active.
Just minutes into the Wednesday morning warm-up, Dengler turned around to find her class of 23 students all dressed in burgundy shirts painted with a birthday message just for her. They read 80? Dang Dengler's age and a play on her name.
Finally in on the surprise, Dengler paused only briefly to smile and laugh with the class before returning to her turn and stretch routine.
It was a real surprise to me, she said after the class, which meets three times a week.
Dengler began teaching aerobics as a volunteer at the Shepherd's Center eight years ago. She'd retired as an associate professor of physical education from Converse College, where she taught dance for 41 years, and was looking for a way to stay active.
I was very active when I was teaching, and I needed an outlet for that, Dengler said. So I called the Shepherd's Center.
The Shepherd's Center is a nonprofit organization located at First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg that provides a variety of programs to senior adults. Offerings include fitness programs (like aerobics), foreign language classes, computer classes, arts groups and workshops through the Adventures in Learning series.

Former Drug Lord ‘Tony Montana’ Works as an Aerobics Instructor for Seniors
Posted: April 8, 2013 at 3:55 pm
A notorious drug dealer from Queens, NY who served 20 years in prison is now working as an aerobics instructor for a senior center.
Tommy Mickens, known was Tony Montana, made around $100,000 a week in drug sales was caught for his crimes, but not before he bought mansions, cars, and a helicopter with the money he made.
Every two days, Mickens sold a kilogram of cocaine and had 50 people working for him.
He was sentenced to 20 years in jail and was released in 2008.
It seems Mickens has turned over a new leaf, and has left his criminal past completely behind him.
People who used to work for me look at what Im doing now and say, What are you doing? he said. I left the past in the past - and I was able to walk away.
Though he used to make millions a year in drug sales, the government took most of his assets. They seized $2.5 million of it on top of fining him for $1 million.
Once he was released from jail, he said the friends he trusted to keep his finances in order spent all of his money, leaving him with nothing.
To make ends meet, he started teaching aerobics to senior citizens. He now makes $40 to $150 a class.
His students have nothing but positive things to say to him.

Aerobics event has folk breaking a sweat indoors
Posted: April 6, 2013 at 4:50 am
SOME 180 people sweated it out during a two-hour aerobics competition at the Sunshine Square banquet hall in Penang.
Penang Fitness Association chairman Jeorge Subramaniam said it was the first time that the event was held at an indoor hall.
This is a new experience for the aerobics enthusiasts.
We decided to hold the contest at an air-conditioned hall instead of outdoors to avoid the blazing sun, he said.
He noted that having an indoor aerobics session was convenient because of the hot weather.
Jointly organised by Bayan Baru Rukun Tetangga, Sunshine Square and supported by Pantai Jerejak Barisan Nasional coordinator Wong Mun Hoe, the annual event is aimed at testing the endurance and fitness level of participants.
The competition was divided into six age categories ranging from 35 and below as well as 60 and above.
A total of 31 winners from all the categories were judged based on the fast pace of their movements and their endurance.
The winners were awarded trophies for their efforts.

"Cooper Aerobics' sole mission is to change lives for the better by making people healthier," said Tyler Cooper, MD, MPH, CEO of Cooper Aerobics Enterprises, Inc., whose father, Dr. Kenneth Cooper, pioneered preventive medicine and authored the best-selling book Aerobics in 1968. "There is no better way to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Aerobics, which launched a global fitness movement, than to revolutionize the fitness experience through our partnership with Precor."
Cooper's philosophy of linking health data and fitness levels to improve overall health will be integrated into the Precor networked fitness solution called Preva. A live demonstration streaming Cooper blog posts will be shown at Precor booth 1573 at the IHRSA trade show March 20-21.
"The Cooper and Precor partnership is another step toward the future where preventive health, fitness and the technologies that enable a stronger mind and body join together," said Paul Byrne, Precor President.
Another feature of the partnership is the creation of a showcase facility at Cooper Fitness Center in Dallas, which is undergoing a $6.5 million renovation and slated to open this spring. The best-in-class location will be one ofthe largest networked facilities worldwide.

Yoga, Zumba, aerobics aren’t just for women any more
Posted: March 17, 2013 at 10:47 pm
By Elisha Pappacoda FOX 35 News
Workouts that used to be thought of as strictly for chicks are working out for men, too.
Take it from Adam Levine, whose yoga spread in Men's Health magazine had women raising their eyebrows and men wondering whether they could get in that kind of shape doing "downward dogs."
From yoga to Zumba, guys are manning up and hitting fitness classes alongside the ladies.
"When I first started Zumba classes every one of [my students] was female," said Lisa Hines, aerobics coordinator at Platinum Fitness in Sanford. "It took one man to come into class, so then all of a sudden, I'm getting four to six of them a night."
Hines has been teaching aerobics for more than 20 years and recently noticed more men braving her conventionally female-oriented classes.
"I have such a huge variety of male students," she said, adding that their ages range from teens to older than 70.
Adrian Amayo, 22, said he wanted to try something different when he joined the gym.
"It's all about Latin and a rhythm," Amayo said of Zumba.
Amayo said he not only gets the benefits of a cardiovascular workout, but he learns dance moves he can show off at the club.
