In a statement issued yesterday, the organisation said the event was required because the National Reform Council (NRC) had ill-intentions towards the Thai Sangha Council. It claimed that was underscored by the NRC meeting last week that tabled tarnishing information against the council.

The ASB said the mass prayer starting at 2pm would be an auspicious occasion for the country and encourage the government to always protect Buddhism and ecclesiastical regions.

Acting ASB president Sathien Wipornmaha said so far six other Buddhist organisations had agreed to join the event. They are the Buddhism Protection Centre of Thailand; the Pali and Dhamma Graduates Association of Thailand; the Association of Distinguished Contributors to Buddhism of Thailand; the Centre for Promotion of Buddhism; the Level 9 Pali Scholars' Association; and the Network of Buddhists in Europe.

He said they would gather under the banner "The Network of Buddhists of Thailand", with Sathien the co-ordinator.
