NEW DELHI: In good news for commuters travelling from south Delhi to east Delhi and Noida via the DND, the Ashram flyover is set to become fully operational from Tuesday. The flyover had been partially closed for repairs for the past two months, leading to severe traffic jams on the stretch.

A senior PWD official said that the work had been completed a week before schedule. "Each flyover has expansion joints that become loose over the years and need to be replaced every 15-20 years. Since this flyover handles massive traffic loan, including heavy vehicles, repair work on it had become urgent. Work will be completed by Monday night and it will be opened completely for traffic from Tuesday morning," he said.

Traffic officials said that during the construction work, motorists coming from the Andrews Ganj Chowk were asked to take a left turn to Bhisham Pitamah Marg and further take a turn under the Lodhi flyover and enter the Barapullah corridor to reach Sarai Kale Khan. Motorists coming from the Moolchand side were asked to take a left turn on the Ring Road to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, take a U-turn from under the Lodhi flyover and enter Barapullah. From now vehicles will be allowed to ply on the previous route.

Police said that they might keep the stretch between Captain Gaur Marg and Ashram Chowk into a no-stopping zone even after the Ashram flyover stretch is restored to normal.
