THE Seberang Prai Municipal Councils (MPSP) free aerobics sessions are gaining popularity.

Council president Maimunah Mohd Sharif said there were less than 100 people when the council started the aerobics session in January but the crowd has since improved to about 500 persons.

The growing response is because the participants found the sessions highly beneficial and have convinced their family members and friends to join in as well.

Many joggers and walkers, who happen to be in the park during our sessions, have also become regular participants, she said.

She was speaking after joining an aerobics session at Taman Tunku in Seberang Jaya.

Maimunah said the hour-long sessions were conducted by fitness trainer Aise Tan Seok Ai, on a voluntary basis.

The sessions are conducted on every first Sunday of the month at Taman Tunku (behind the Seberang Jaya Public Swimming Pool) at 7.30am.

Similar sessions are conducted at Taman Tugu Kota Demokrasi in Taman Cantik, Mak Mandin, every third Sunday of the month at the same time.

She hoped residents in housing schemes could initiate similar aerobics sessions in the parks of their respective areas.

Aerobics promotes good blood circulation as it involves the movement of almost all body parts, she said.
