State EPU deputy director Ismail Meor Hakim said the programme aimed to foster good relationship among neighbours as well as create awareness on health and social issues affecting the community at large.

The event kicked off with an aerobics exercise, followed by visitations to participating booths and demonstrations by the state Fire and Rescue Department and Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh.

Also present were council secretary Datuk Abdul Rahim Md Ariff and Kinta Heights' Rela chief, Chang Kok Aun.

Resident Chan Mei Yoke, a beautician, said participating in the programme was the best way for her to get to know her neighbours better.

"Everyone is busy with their daily affairs and have little time to get to know who actually lives next door," she said.

Housewife Lila Gi Ting, who came with her daughter Joyce Phoon, 5, said the aerobics session not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also fostered closer ties among neighbours.

Another resident, Suzaini Mat, also a housewife, said she enjoyed the cooking competition and various interesting demonstrations.

Kinta Heights, which comprise 266 units of low-cost flats, recently received a complete makeover under the programme.

Under the National Blue Ocean Strategy, the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry allocated RM4.37 million for the rehabilitation project which derived RM3.6 million from the housing maintenance programme and RM775,000 from the local government department.
