CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- About a dozen people started their morning early Saturday with Chris Jones at an aerobics class, but it will be okay if they don't finish with him at the Energy Sports and Fitness on Sardis Road in Charlotte. He plans to be leading the class for a while.

The Charlotte man is going for the Guinness World Record for the longest amount of time leading an aerobics class. He once held the record at 36 hours, which now stands at 39. Sometime by 9 p.m. Sunday he could reclaim the record.

"This is about health and fighting obesity," said Jones, who was a drum major at Johnson C. Smith University and Jackson Smith University in Mississippi. Jones created his special type of workout after years as a drum major. "It involves heavy cardio and burns thousand of calories an hour, he said.

The marathon will allow for bathroom breaks, but in order to complete the record, Jones must have at least 10 people on the floor with him at all times.
