COLUMBUS The Columbus Aquatic Center is kicking it up a notch by adding numerous exercise classes to the schedule.

High-intensity aerobics, AquaLates and Aqua Zumba are now offered at the Aquatic Center along with the already scheduled low-intensity aerobics.

There is now a class for every day of the week.

You shouldnt have to live in Omaha to get something like this because we have it right here, Columbus Aquatics Manager Brook Tomka said.

Low-intensity aerobics gets the muscles and joints moving. Its great for recovery from surgeries or people who suffer from acute arthritis.

High-intensity aerobics gets the blood pumping as it is a very active water class.

AquaLates is a mixture of yoga and palates, focusing on stretching against the resistance of the water.

Aqua Zumba combines Latin dancing and exercise, making it feel more like a fun activity instead of an extreme workout.

You dont feel like you work so hard, but you are working every bit as hard with your heart and muscles, but because youre in the water, the coolness and the cushion of the buoyancy brings your heart rate down, certified Aqua Zumba instructor Carol Foster said. Toning benefits are good, if not better, in the water because you have the resistance of the water but you also have the help of the water. It makes you so light on your feet.

Low-intensity aerobics classes are offered 9:30-10:30 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. High-intensity aerobics classes are offered 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
