SOME 180 people sweated it out during a two-hour aerobics competition at the Sunshine Square banquet hall in Penang.

Penang Fitness Association chairman Jeorge Subramaniam said it was the first time that the event was held at an indoor hall.

This is a new experience for the aerobics enthusiasts.

We decided to hold the contest at an air-conditioned hall instead of outdoors to avoid the blazing sun, he said.

He noted that having an indoor aerobics session was convenient because of the hot weather.

Jointly organised by Bayan Baru Rukun Tetangga, Sunshine Square and supported by Pantai Jerejak Barisan Nasional coordinator Wong Mun Hoe, the annual event is aimed at testing the endurance and fitness level of participants.

The competition was divided into six age categories ranging from 35 and below as well as 60 and above.

A total of 31 winners from all the categories were judged based on the fast pace of their movements and their endurance.

The winners were awarded trophies for their efforts.
